Hurricane Beryl
It’s hard to believe the category one storm could travel on far on land and cause so many tornadoes and power outages. Pray for all the people without power on these very hot days. Pray for those who are working to help others recover from the damage.
Outdoor Workers
Pray for those in our area who have to work outside. I remember my daddy coming home on his lunch break and spending part of the allotted hour to get a shower and a fresh set of clothes. Find your own ways to help your body stay a little cooler on these very hot days.
On the 20th, ladies of our association will meet at FBC, Greensburg at 10:00 A.M. The meeting will close with a pot-luck lunch. ALL LADIES are encouraged to attend. We learn so much from each other.

Reid Thomas Smith was born on Saturday, July 6, 2024 at St. Tammany Parish Hospital in Covington, LA and passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus a short time later after being baptized. Hurricane Beryl
First of all, I’m thankful Beryl was only a one when it went ashore. It could have been so much worse. Beryl came ashore in Texas and moved north, northeast going through northwestern Louisiana, Arkansaw, Missouri, and beyond. I understand it was and still is destructive and dangerous. Pray for the many people without electricity on these hot days. Pray for the linemen who have been sent there to restore electricity and the cleanup teams who will also be working there. Pray the high temperatures will not be an added problem. Please continue to pray for the people trying to survive in the situation they find themselves in today.

Updates
Leslie McKenzie has been home and adjusting to dealing with his present condition. He mainly stays on the coach and sitting outside on his ramp that was built by church friends. Les has a check-up today. Tomorrow, his wife will go back to work. Please continue to pray for Leslie and his family.
Ferrie Gene Blackwell and Barbara Baugh were able to be back in Sunday School class yesterday.
Please continue to pray for Naomi Tolar’s son-in-law, Bob, who has a back issue and is facing surgery soon.
Pray for Gary Varnado who is now in North Oaks. Thankfully, his wife, Mary, if now home from the nursing home.
Please pray for all the people in the Houston area now facing hurricane conditions and for those in other areas who will be in need of our prayers as the storms moves their way.
God is so good!
Youth from FBC, Kentwood returned home from camp Saturday afternoon and gave their report to the church yesterday morning. There were two saved and others who dedicated their lives to God. Most of the youth and a couple of chaperones gave individual reports. It was an amazing service! God has special plans for their young lives. Thanks to the church for supporting their fundraisers and for serving as chaperones. Special thanks to Bro. Wendell and Nikki Rhodus.
Another heat warning!
We are set for another hot day with no rain here. Pray for those who have special needs because of the hot, dry weather. David and I got a fair rain Saturday, I think. We have missed the good rains many of you received in town. We are thankful for the rain we had and the possibility of more rain.

It’s time to wrap TPL up this morning. As always, you are appreciated for offering up your prayers.
Pray for the salvation of those who haven’t been saved. Pray for the salvation in your church and in other churches. Pray the the salvation of young people and of older people. Pray this be the day!
Pray for decisions as a result. of sermons, church camps, Sunday School lessons, Bible Study, home visits, friendships, etc. The pathway is not the key factor. Having Jesus in your life is! It determines where a person will spend eternity!
Others
You can influence others in big ways! There are many ways to do so. Match your actions with the needs.
Have a great Lord’s Day!
The greatest way to do so is to attend church and take advantage of all the opportunities at church for you. Make this day count.

Mae Jean Robertson Smith
September 30, 1934 – July 3, 2024
Mae Jean passed away at her home in Hillsdale, Louisiana on July 3,2024 at the age of 89. She was born and raised in St. Helena Parish. She married her high school sweetheart, Hobert, in 1952. Together they raised three children. Mae Jean was a homemaker her whole life. She enjoyed raising her children and babysitting her grandchildren. She had a green thumb and could raise any plant or flower that she wanted to, this often resulted in many total strangers stopping to admire her yard and staying for a cup of coffee. She always welcomed everyone into her home. Within your first few sips of your coffee, you would ultimately receive some type of compliment whether it was your hair, your make-up or your shirt you always left feeling better about yourself. She was one of a kind.
She is survived by her children Reba Jean Lee (Sammie), Hobert “Billy” Smith III (Mary) and Velvet Lopinto (Joe). Two siblings, brother Eugene Robertson and sister Vivian Morgan. Eight grandchildren Kindle Sevin (Garrett), Roman Kyle Lee (Jennifer), Cassie Ly Smith, Smitty Smith (Maggie), Addie Holley (John), Crystal Alexander (JR), Michael Davis (Rachel), Cara Lyn Reno (Dustin). Fourteen great-grandchildren Bryce, Braxton, Hudson, Abner, Asher, Evan, Colby, Aubree, Emmet, River, Merrit Ruth, Morgan (Jeff), Dustin (Jayme) and Renae (Colby). She was also blessed with 8 great-great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband Hobert Smith Jr., parents Hilton and Nellie Robertson, brothers Hulos Robertson, Emmit Robertson, Terry Robertson and Jerry Lynn Robertson, Sisters-in-law Helen Robertson, Cheryl Robertson and Laura Lee Robertson, brother in-law Huey Morgan, and grandson Shane Lee.
Reba, Billy, and Velvet would like to thank all the grandchildren and extended family members for all the unending visits and supporting prayers. A special thanks to her sitter Joanne for her care given. Also, Lisa King, Loren, Latonya, Carol McKean and Veronica for all their nursing visits through Modern Hospice.
Honoring Maw Maw Mae Jean as Pallbearers are Garrett Sevin, Roman Kyle Lee, Smitty Smith, Joe Lopinto, Michael Davis, Dustin Reno, and honorary pallbearer Daryl Robertson. Prayers, Please
My first request is that you pray for the youth of our church who are at camp this week. Pray they will accept Jesus into their lives if they have not already done so. If they have, pray they will draw closer to Him this week.
David and I will be shopping for some of the most needed items for the 450 shoeboxes we will be packing soon. Pray for us to find the items we need so they can be a blessing to boys and girls and to be an instrument in getting them the opportunity to hear about Jesus.
Good News! – Leslie McKenzie is home! He is limited to a wheelchair and only has four fingers to help him move around, but he and his family are very pleased he is back at home. He will be in the wheelchair for a minimum of six weeks. Pray for him each day, because he will be fighting wanting to be up each day. Also, pray for his body to heal well in all the places where he had an injury.
Jesse Dean is in North Oaks with a kidney problem. Pray for the doctors as they try to figure out the problem and determine what treatment he needs.

Good morning, friends. First, let’s list some reasons we are thankful. I will start. Take a few minutes to think. Some items on your list will be the same as mine, but some different.
I am thankful God loves me and is my Savior of about 67 years.
I am thankful David loves me and is my husband of almost 57 years.
I am thankful for my family, most of whom live in Texas, Georgia, and New Jersey.
I am thankful for my church family in the Kentwood and surrounding areas.
I am thankful I was able to teach school for almost 40 years.
I am thankful for many friends mainly in the Kentwood and Amite/Roseland areas.
I am thankful for the opportunities God gives me to serve Him and love others.
A Daughter
Today, I am happy to announce the birth of a new baby. Bro. Dennis Walker’s son, Kody, and his wife, Jenny Steib Walker, have their first child, a girl, named Mattie Joy Walker. She weighed 7 pounds, 8 ounces and was 20 inches long.

He retired from Girl Scouts Camp Mary Dale in St. Francisville, LA where he was affectionately known as “Ranger Dave”. He was born August 8, 1957 in Amite, LA to Roger Brown, Sr. and Annette Pinault Brown. Elizabeth “Betty” Copeland Slocum
November 19, 1944 – June 29, 2024
Elizabeth “Betty” Copeland Slocum, a resident of Gillsburg, MS, passed from this life peacefully on June 29th with her family at her side. She was 79 years old. Betty was born in Magnolia, MS to Marion and Madge Walker Copeland. She graduated from Liberty High School in 1962. While growing up she enjoyed helping her Dad, Grand-Dad and Brother with outdoor chores and her favorite pastime was fishing. After marrying James Slocum in 1980, they resided in Kentwood, LA where they owned and ran City Cafe for 20 years. They then moved back to the home-place in Gillsburg. Betty worked for Bernell McGehee, CPA until 2020. She was a very outgoing, friendly and benevolent person, even when she didn’t have extra herself. She was a faithful member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church and dearly loved every pastor she ever had. She served as church clerk for many years and used her love for cooking to serve the Lord in her church and community. She loved gospel music and would travel far and wide to hear a “good” group. She served her community as coordinator of the Gillsburg Parade for many years and a very happy day was when she was selected as the Grand Marshall of the parade. She is survived by her children, Stephanie Blades (Larry), Tammy Tackett (Eugene), Jamie Slocum (Kelly), Bryan Slocum; grandchildren, Heather Forrest (Brock), Hunter Blades (Lindsay), Travis Tackett (Haylie), Taylor Slocum Terrell (Blake), Kaden Slocum, Gracie Slocum, Addie Slocum, Alex Slocum; great grandchildren, Jaxon and Madox Forrest, Leighton Blades, Rylee Harmon, and Collins Terrell; siblings, James Copeland (Diane), Dalpha Cupit (Jackie), Marian Dee Havard (Hilton), Donna Wilkinson; special aunt, Emmagene Carter; and numerous nieces and nephews.
