A resident of Kentwood, LA, passed away on Thursday, August 15, 2024. He was born September 17, 1986 in Leesville, LA and was 37 years young. Kelly will be remembered for his giving nature, as a jokester and ladies man. He was one of the best concrete finishers around and he wasn’t afraid to get his hands dirty. He will be deeply missed by his family, many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Huey Pierce Duncan
September 8, 1936 – August 13, 2024
Huey Pierce Duncan, age 87 and a resident of Hwy. 16 Amite, LA, died at Tuesday, August 13, 2024 at North Oaks Medical Center Hammond, LA. Huey was the last of nine siblings born to Isaac Newton and Leoda Crain Duncan. Huey graduated Thomas High School, third in his class. Upon graduation, he went to work at the Washington Parish Clerk of Court’s Office. He left to serve 2 years in the US Army, then returned to work in the Clerk’s Office. Several years later, Huey began a career with the Louisiana Highway Department. He retired from the DOTD as Right-of-Way District Supervisor and then worked as ROW Consultant until age 80. Huey was responsible for obtaining the Right-of-Way for the Federal Bridge Program in Tangipahoa Parish for 25 years. Huey was an avid motorcycle enthusiast and owned a variety from a young age. He traveled by bike through 48 states. Huey was a life-time member of HOG (Harley Owner Group) and AMA (American Motorcyclist Association). He was also a private airplane owner and pilot for 11 years. Later in life. Huey and his wife made many life-long friends while traveling in their motor home and as members of the Holiday Rambler Pine Belt Motor Home Club. Huey was a member of Sharon Missionary Baptist Church for more than 50 years, serving many years as Church Clerk and singing in the church choir. Huey was a 60-year plus member of Pine Masonic Lodge #264 F&AM and was a Past Master. Huey will be remembered as one who had a zest for life and was blessed with lots of family and many musical friends… gospel, country, and bluegrass. Huey is survived by son, David Newton; one granddaughter, Sydney Duncan; three great-grandchildren, Blaine, Gavin, and Cade Duncan; and sister-in-law, Sylvia White Mars. Huey is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. Huey was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Belvery White Duncan and son, Walter Craig Duncan; his parents; siblings Charles Jewel Duncan, Julia Pauline Crain Kennedy, Horace Elmo Duncan, Leoda Christine Stafford, Waver Gynelle James, Betty Ruth Pace, and two infant brothers. All kidding aside… we lost everything we owned in 1994 in Leesburg, GA due to a flood caused by Tropical Storm Alberto. In 2016 my son and his wife lost everything in a flood in Baton Rouge, LA. Today my daughter and her family are experiencing flooding from Troical Storm Debby. My heart breaks for her and her town of Richmond Hill, GA. They have safely made it out by boat. Please pray for the rain to stop and the rivers to crest. This mama wants to be there but there’s nothing we can do right now but pray.

James Bart “JB” Travis

James Bart “JB” Travis, age 90 and a lifelong resident of Kentwood, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 8, 2024 at the Southeast Louisiana War Veterans Home in Reserve, LA. JB was born June 24,1934 to Otis and Opal Williams Travis. JB was United States Army Veteran and a master mechanic. His life’s passion was working on vehicles and he owned a successful mechanic shop for over 60 years. JB was a man of great faith and put his life and trust in God’s hands. “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.” (2 Timothy 4:7) He is survived by his children Danny Earl Miller and Emily Diane Miller of Picayune, Mississippi. His grandson Ritchie Hebert. He is also survived by his sisters Alma Coker (Jimmy) of Magnolia, MS, Lois Domiano of Kentwood, and Karen Sue Travis (Vil Tirado) of Baton Rouge. He was preceded in death by his special friend Linda Hyde Travis, his parents Otis and Opal Travis, 3 infant triplet brothers, brother Houston Earl Travis, and sister Dora Jean Travis, and his brother in law Anthony Domiano. He is also preceded in death by his grandchildren Mark Miller and Danielle Miller. Also preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Bart and Mary Ziegler Travis and maternal grandparents Jim and Virginia Wall Williams. He also leaves behind 8 great grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren and his special nephew Houston “Sonny” Travis and a host of other nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate JB’s life on Monday, August 12, 2024 at McKneely Funeral Home in Kentwood from 9:00AM until religious services 12:00 Noon. Julie Frazier has again written to inform us her dad is not doing well with Covid. He blood pressure is low as is his ability to breathe without the support of the vent.
