Obituary
Charlie M. “Sonny” Blades
April 26, 1937 – March 17, 2026

A resident of Amite, LA Charlie M. “Sonny” Blades passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, at Belle Maison Nursing Home, at the age of 88. He was born on April 26, 1937, in Kentwood.
Charlie was a man defined by hard work, dedication, and service. He proudly served as a Louisiana State Police trooper, a role in which he earned deep respect for his integrity and commitment to protecting others. Beyond his years in law enforcement, he was well known in the community as a dairy farmer and as the owner of Blades’ Tractor, where his work ethic and reliability left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Donna Blades; two sons, Darrin P. Blades and Leslie Malcolm Blades; his cherished grandchildren, Jessie Blades, Mac Blades, Whitney Boutwell, and Brandon Blades; as well as numerous great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, Louis “Frog” Blades and Rex Blades; and two sisters, Juan Potts and Peggy Givens.
He was preceded in death by his son, Brian Craig Blades; his parents, Charlie Alton Blades and Ruby Cutrer Blades; and his sister, Bernadette Blades Oliver.
Visitation will be held at McKneely Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. until religious services at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Amite Cemetery.
