A resident of Kentwood, LA, passed away on Tuesday, August 6, 2024 at North Oaks Medical Center in Hammond, LA. He was born September 15, 1934 in Kentwood, LA and was 89 years of age. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Lena Margaret Lange Carter; daughter, Misti Lynn Cater Lee and husband, Robert “Bobby” Edward Lee, Jr.; son, Donald Ray “Bo” Carter, Jr. and wife, Irene Lorraine Carter; 2 grandchildren, Matthew Kirk Carter and wife, Kacy Rochelle Carter and Skylar Blaine Castille and wife, Yuki Sakamoto Castille; 3 great-grandchildren, Lane Tate Carter, Kylee Rochelle Carter, and Rylee Denise Carter. Preceded in death by his son, Randall Kirk Carter; parents, Adron G. Carter and Lillie Mae Knight Carter; brother and sisters, Regina Carter Bowlin, Thelma Lucille Carter, Mildred Ontie Carter Varnado, Mary Evelin Carter Lane, Richard Tilmon Carter, and Grace Carter Womack. James Bart “JB” Travis
June 24, 1934 – August 8, 2024

James Bart “JB” Travis, age 90 and a lifelong resident of Kentwood, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 8, 2024 at the Southeast Louisiana War Veterans Home in Reserve, LA. JB was born June 24,1934 to Otis and Opal Williams Travis. JB was United States Army Veteran and a master mechanic. His life’s passion was working on vehicles and he owned a successful mechanic shop for over 60 years. JB was a man of great faith and put his life and trust in God’s hands. “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.” (2 Timothy 4:7) He is survived by his children Danny Earl Miller and Emily Diane Miller of Picayune, Mississippi. His grandson Ritchie Hebert. He is also survived by his sisters Alma Coker (Jimmy) of Magnolia, MS, Lois Domiano of Kentwood, and Karen Sue Travis (Vil Tirado) of Baton Rouge. He was preceded in death by his special friend Linda Hyde Travis, his parents Otis and Opal Travis, 3 infant triplet brothers, brother Houston Earl Travis, and sister Dora Jean Travis, and his brother in law Anthony Domiano. He is also preceded in death by his grandchildren Mark Miller and Danielle Miller. Also preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Bart and Mary Ziegler Travis and maternal grandparents Jim and Virginia Wall Williams. He also leaves behind 8 great grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren and his special nephew Houston “Sonny” Travis and a host of other nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate JB’s life on Monday, August 12, 2024 at McKneely Funeral Home in Kentwood from 9:00AM until religious services 12:00 Noon. His nephew Houston “Sonny” Travis will officiate the funeral service. Pallbearers will be Jody Morgan, Mike Alford, Dennis Saunier, Robert Hutchinson, Brett Ballard, and Tyler Travis. Honorary pallbearers will be Earnest Spears, Danny Milton, Paul Stewart, and Dee Newcomb. Burial will follow the funeral service at New Zion Cemetery, Kentwood.
