Henrietta S. McCoy

October 4, 1930 – March 11, 2024

A resident of Amite, LA, passed away on Monday, March 11, 2024 at The Crossing of Baton Rouge in Baton Rouge, LA. She was born October 4, 1930 in Amite, LA and was 93 years of age. She graduated from Chesbrough High School. Her career started at Rexall Pharmacy and she later retired from Hammond Developmental Center after 25 years. A longtime active member of Kedron Baptist Church,  she served and was active in the WMU. She oversaw many meals for grieving families after the loss of a loved one. Henrietta was active in  her sunday school class and after retirement,  served on the board of the St. Helena Parish Hospital. In her later years she attended Amite Baptist Church with her daughter Beth  and her family, and enjoyed the Ladies’ Joy Sunday school  class.  She is survived by 3 children, Beth Jordan (Wayne), Joey McCoy (Sonya), and Caro Smith; 9 grandchildren, Whittany Starns (Kevin), Evan Jordan (Taylor), Amy Sweat (Rodney), Robyn Smith (Ben), Brooke Roncancio (Edgar) Trey, Christian, McCoy and Gabby Smith; 3 step-grandchildren, George Jordan, Chris Jordan, and Aimee Stafford; 9 great-grandchildren, Nolen, Etta Jane, Andi, Grady, Olli Kate, Ryne, Remi, Carson, and Myles; 1 brother, Derwood Smith (Carolyn); and sister-in-law, Mamie Smith. Preceded in death by her husband, Joseph M. “Sonny” McCoy;1 son-in-law, Ronny Smith; 1 brother, Charles H. Smith; 2 sisters, Velma Warren and Norma Jean Bel. Visitation at Kedron Baptist Church from 1:00PM until religious services at 3:00PM on Saturday, March 16, 2024. Services conducted by Scott Alford. Interment Roberts Cemetery, Amite, LA. Pallbearers will be grandsons and grandsons-in-law. Honorary pallbearers will be Jack “Catfish” Granger and Scott Gay. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions in her memory be made to Kedron Baptist Church. McKneely Funeral Home, Amite, in charge of arrangements. A resident of Kentwood, LA, passed away after a brief illness on Wednesday, March 13, 2024 at North Oaks Medical Center in Hammond, LA. She was born August 7, 1953 in Franklinton, LA and was 70 years of age. She is survived by her 3 children, Kirk Spears and wife, Julie, Lyndy Spears Varnado and companion, Mark Conner, and Kerry Spears and wife, Nichole; grandchildren, Hannah Varnado, Emily Varnado, Daniel Spears, Juliana Spears, Claire Varnado, Christopher Spears, and London Jaufre; brother-in-law, Leslie “Tex” Derrough; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. Preceded in death by her parents, Frank Forbes and Opal Seal Forbes; father of her children, Clyde Spears; sister, Barbara Bates Derrough; brother, Frank LaRue Forbes; sister-in-law, Sandra Forbes; and nephew, Davin Bates.
