Former Kentwood mayor, Mr. Nick Salidino, passed away yesterday.  I’ll post an obituary when it is available.

Thankfulness: Day 17 – Today, I am thankful for memories.  As a teacher, I have many.  The memory of former students, co-workers, and families is so special to me.  At the football game Friday night, David told someone we were there to see “grandchildren”, the children of some of my former students.  That’s the way it is with us living far from our children and their families and with no football players “on the radar”.   One of my special memories is of a young man who came to me twice with a medical issue that led me to call the Salidino family.  Later, upon moving I began to see the Salidino family periodically, and as recently as a couple weeks ago at The Cafe.  I’m thankful for knowing so many students and their families.  It’s a blessing to a retired teacher to think back, not about the subjects I loved to teach, but the people I know because of being a teacher.  I’m richly blessed.
