Archie B. Osborn, M.D. (December 12, 1932 – September 11, 2010)

Dr. Osborn, 77, of Elizabeth, entered eternal rest on Saturday, September 11, 2010 in his residence. He was born on December 12, 1932 in Roseland to the union of Retus & Leontine Strickland Osborn. He graduated as Valedictorian from Amite High School and continued his studies in Pre-Med at S.E. Louisiana College. He then married the love of his life, Margaret Ann Patenotte in Amite in 1956. Dr. Osborn graduated from LSU Med School in 1957 and then served his country as Captain at the Dow Air Force Base in Bangor, Maine for two years. In 1960, he and his family moved to Elizabeth where he practiced for 38 years, being loved and respected by his patients and colleagues. Dr. Osborn was a member of the Louisiana Medical Society and the American Medical Association, as well as the Elizabeth Baptist Church.

He loved all things in nature, especially traveling with his wife to many islands in the Caribbean and South Pacific, following their hobby of collecting seashells. He was also an avid bird watcher and pursued his hobby of photographing birds and wildflowers of Louisiana, as a member of the Louisiana Native Plant Society, The Nature Conservatory and the Loose Alliance Birding Society of Cenla.

He is preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Retus Osborn, III and his son, Mark Eugene Osborn.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 54 years, Margaret Ann Osborn of Elizabeth; one son, David Osborn and wife, Susan of Ponchatoula; one daughter, Ann E. Woods and husband, Roger of Silsbee, Texas and grandchildren, Sara, Adam, Laura, Andrew, Dana and Colt and one great-granddaughter, Gracie Ann.

Funeral services for Archie B. Osborn, M.D. will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 14 in the Elizabeth Baptist Church with Reverend Danny Perry officiating. Committal services will follow in the Hampton Memorial Cemetery under the guidance of White Oaks, Oakdale.

Pallbearers to serve are Jimmy Hughes, Forrest Thompson, Bobby Crafton, Roger Woods, Adam Osborn and Andy Osborn.

Friends may call today from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until time of service in the Church.

Memorials may be made to the Elizabeth Baptist Church in honor of Dr. Osborn.

I don’t remember this Dr. Osborn as much as I remember his parents.  They both played a big part of my growing up years.

  1. Dr. Osborn was one of the most compassionate person I have ever known. A thorough physician. He and his family were great friends of my family. The Glynn family is lifting the Osborn family in their prayers.
