Hey Everyone,Great news has been received. As of September 12, 2010, Kirk is coming home from Afghanistan. After being assigned to MARSOC (Marine Special Operations Command) for five years, HQ Command has decided that he has completed his assignment in getting the battalion deployed and established. They are bringing him home to Camp LeJeune and after some down/off time, he will be assigned a new duty at Camp LeJeune. He has no real idea what that duty will be but is excited that it will be different.We/he wants to thank you for your prayers, support and encouragement. The e-mails, mail and packages were greatly appreciated. We talked to him Friday, September 10 and he was disappointed in leaving all of the other Marines behind, but is looking forward to the time off and moving on to a new position. He is extremely excited to be home to be with Shannon and the kids and of course football season.Thanks Again,Chris and Kathy

Monday – Obituary Update

Willie Eugene “Gene” Russell, Age 77, passed away peacefully at 6 p.m. on Monday, September 6, 2010 at the Baton Rouge General Medical Center – Bluebonnet in Baton Rouge with his family by his side. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. Gene was a retired member of the Electrician’s Local #995 with 32 years of continuous service. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Dorothy Yvonne Sanders Russell; two sons, William Lee Russell and wife, Donna, George Michael Russell, and wife Connie; grandchildren, Lee Michael Russell and wife, Amanda, William Todd Russell, Lindsey Meliet and husband, Blake, Kayla Marie Russell, Meagan Michelle Russell, Jodie Sandefur, and Janey Sandefur; great-grandchildren, Kade Michael Russell, Lindslee Rose Russell, Kason Todd Russell, London and Noah Cooper. Preceded in death by, son, Earl Eugene “Rusty” Russell. Visitation at McKneely Funeral Home, Amite, on Sunday, September 12, 2010 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. and on Monday, September 13, 2010 from 8 a.m. until funeral services at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at the Arcola-Roseland Cemetery. Pallbearers will be, Keith Roshto, Shelby Roshto, Keith Olinde, Lee Michael Russell, Todd Russell, Rusty Browning, Blake Meliet, and Vernon Russell.

Judy Liberto asks us to pray for her as she has surgery tomorrow at 6 A.M. in McComb.

Jason Dean will be having a spinal tap in Hattisburg tomorrow. Please pray he can find the back problem so it can be corrected.

Lloyd Hayden had a reaction to medication last week and was hospitalized. He is now home and improving. Please keep him in your prayers.

Please continue to remember Margaret Huber in your prayers.

Mrs. Annie Bell Harrell is still hospitalized in Covington. Please keep praying for her and her family.

Pray for the family of Gene Russell as they have his funeral service today. His wife, Yvonne, was not able to be at the wake last night even though the family was able to get her to this area. Continue to keep her in your prayers.

Cowboy-Church-02 Richard Swain describes the work and ministry of Cross Branded Cowboy Church as “bringing the message of Jesus and ministering to people of Western culture and heritage…” Those who worship at Cross Branded and other uniquely-focused ministries enjoy the opportunity to worship with others who share the same interests; in this case, cattle, horses, and rodeos.

Financial assistance from the Georgia Barnette State Missions Offering has helped Cross Branded Ministry to purchase materials and supplies for worship and Bible study, and especially Bibles that are used at rodeo events.

Is this ministry effective? A 10-year-old girl is one of those who has come to know the Lord as Savior through this church. She was baptized into the membership of the sponsoring church, Pine Grove Baptist, Ruby.

These are some of the many faces of Louisiana missions. As we pray for the ministry at Cross Branded, please pray for:

God’s continued directions for this cowboy ministry and others like it;
A permanent site for this cowboy church;
Courage for leaders to speak out more for Christ; and
A pastor to shepherd this flock.

Uniquely focused churches/ministries in Louisiana include those reaching the arts culture, the homeless, and those with addictive disorders.

Day 1

New Hope Baptist Church, Jennings

Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not rely on your own understanding; think about Him in all your ways and He will guide you on the right paths.”

New-Hope-02 In the beginning children were the focus of the ministry that now bears the name New Hope Baptist Church. Trusting in the Lord has led this mission church from those days of teaching in a gutted-out school bus to the completion of a beautiful worship center in late spring 2010. This church is now home to families, many of them still related to those first children.

Volunteers from several Louisiana churches, working through the Mission Builder program, joined with this church family to build the new worship center. This cooperation maximized the grants from the Georgia Barnette State Missions Offering, making this building possible.

As we pray for New Hope and similar mission churches in our state, each one making steady growth, pray specifically for:

The new pastor and his family who came to the field in Summer 2010;
A much-needed youth leader to assist in reaching families, discipling and teaching youth;
Leadership training opportunities; and
Pastor Charrier and his family as he continues in the multi-tasking ministry of church planting.

In 2009-2010 Louisiana Baptist Mission Builders helped to build 12 new mission churches, involving volunteers from Louisiana and 30 other states.

Most of us know the meaning of that Scripture, but many of us need to be reminded of it from time to time.

Micah Tolleson is in ICU in Texas after having two seizures. He will have a test today to determine if a brain tumor is the problem again this time. Please pray for him and his family as they are facing numerous health issues.

The movie. “To Save a Life”, will be showing for FREE tonight at 6 P.M. at the Amite Cinema. You are invited to attend and bring someone with you. I did some checking on the movie and learned it is especially good for teens and their parents.

What if we give (it) to kids as gifts?

What if we used it in case of an emergency?

There is something to make you go …hmmm…where IS my Bible?

Oh, and one more thing.

Unlike our cell phone, we don’t have to worry about our Bible being disconnected because Jesus already paid the bill.

The date of the services for Mrs. Josephine Brumfield were omitted. Here is the corrected obituary.

Josephine Harvey Brumfield — known to her friends as Phinie; known to her grandchildren as Mer’Phinie, passed away at her home surrounded by her loving family at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 11, 2010 at the age of 101.

A loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great great grandmother as well as a well known artist, she will be missed by all. She was a life long resident of Amite and member of the Amite Art Club as well as the Stem and Stamen Garden Club.

MerPhinie was born on October 22, 1908 in Tylertown, Mississippi. She was married to Welton H. Brumfield, Sr. and had three children – namely Sara Frances Brumfield; Welton H. Brumfield, Jr. and Claude H. “Hank” Brumfield, Sr.

She is survived by five grandchildren, Gregory Welton Brumfield and wife, Nicole, Amite; Sara Frances Brumfield, Amite; Barbara Rene Brumfield Davis and husband, David, Amite; Rebecca “Becki” Brumfield Biandolillo and husband, Mike, Amite and Bryan Keith Brumfield and wife, Jan, Fluker.

Nine great grandsons — Brandon Andrews and wife, Jessica; Jared Richardson; Grant Richardson; Gray Richardson and wife, Donna; Grayson Brumfield; Brent Davis; Caleb Brumfield; Bradley Brumfield and Blake Brumfield.

Twelve great grand Daughters, Gretchen Ockman and husband, Michael; Lindsey Jo Brumfield; Brandy Kay Andrews Bel and husband, Geoff; Blair Reid; Kristi Brumfield Hyde and husband, John; Chelsea Brumfield Baugh; Ashley Brumfield; Marlyn Davis; Lauren Brumfield; Sydni Biandolillo; Ali Brumfield and Alexis Biandolillo.

Please pray for the families who suffered losses nine years ago today and for the families who have suffered losses because of someone who helped in the aftermath of 9/11. Pray for our country!

Robbie Lynn C. Kirby and Erin Evanoff are both working to get their pain eased following procedures done Thursday. Pray for both of them to have a good day today.

Pray for Rev. Bobby Eads as he continues to have heart issues. He is wearing a monitor so the doctor can assess his situation better.

My cousin, Scott, has been taken to a hospital in Alexander, LA. He will not be near any of his family. Pray for Scott and his family to depend on God to get them through this very difficult time.

IMAGINE HAVING THE world’s most valuable masterpiece, a work of art that would bring thirty or forty million dollars if you auctioned it…

Then imagine that instead of taking that masterpiece to the auction, you took it to a pawn shop, pawned it for twenty bucks, and blew the whole wad on crayons and paper so you could decorate your own walls.

Or imagine being offered a lifetime pass to the city’s best buffet spread, only to reject it in favor of one meal at a truck stop. Silly? Ludicrous? Absolutely insane? All of that and more. People with even an ounce of sense don’t squander glory on garbage. But that’s what idolatry is. That’s what the people of Judah were doing in Jeremiah’s day, and that’s what we do with alarming ease today.

Think about how much God is worth. He can create anything, so whatever we have, He has something better. He governs and sustains everything, so every circumstance we encounter must bow to Him. And He has promised lavish blessings for eternity, so all our cravings will be exgtravagantly exceeded by His good gifts. Logically, there’s nothing we would take in exchange for a relationship with this God. Practically, that’s exactly what we often do. A resident of Montpelier, he died on Thursday, September 9, 2010 at his residence. He was born October 5, 1940 in Pine Grove and was 69 years of age. Mr. Goynes was a life long member of Shiloh Baptist Church and a truck driver. He is survived by his wife, Kathy Goynes; 5 sons, Duane, Tim, Troy, Buddy and Dylan Goynes; 5 grandchildren, Corey, Laura, Kayla, Megan and Colton Goynes. He was preceded in death by his parents, Denzil and Ruby Goynes; 3 brothers, Lee, June and Jay Goynes. Visitation at Shiloh Baptist Church, Pine Grove, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Sunday and from 10 a.m. until religious services at 1 p.m. on Monday, September 13, 2010. Services conducted by Bro. U.S. Veteran Charles Murry Stogner, age 75, a former resident of Bogalusa, LA, passed away on Thursday, September 9, 2010 at his residence in Kentwood, LA.

He was the owner and manager of City Air Conditioning for 37 years. He was a member of Eastfork Baptist Church.

He is survived by His Wife, Peggy Stogner of Kentwood, LA;

1 Daughter, Rhonda Stogner (Lonnie) Miley of Bogalusa, LA;

3 Step-Children, Kim Garner, Lisa Terrell and Donna Meredith;

6 Step-Grandchildren, Whitney Downey, Adam Garner, Reagan Meredith, Sarah Meredith, Jennifer Morton and Hannah Terrell;

1 Sister, Charlene Corkern;

1 Half Sister, Marguerite Lee;

Numerous Nieces and Nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles Stogner and Nova Stogner; 2 Sisters, Nell Hardison and Oneita Jenkins.

Visitation will be held at Eastfork Baptist Church in Kentwood, LA from 6:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. on Thursday, September 9, 2010.

Visitation will continue at Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home at 10:00 a.m. until the Funeral Services at 2:00 P.M. with the Rev. Michael Shumock and Rev. Clay Norwood officiating. Interment to follow at New Zion Cemetery in Tylertown, MS on Friday, September 10, 2010.
