“Let no man despise thy youth;

but be thou an example of the believers,

in word,

in conversation,

in charity,

in spirit,

in faith,

in purity.”

~1 Timothy 4:12, HCSB~

Heart to Heart with Holley: You’ve got the strength you need for a new week….

You’ve got the strength you need for a new week…

Posted: 26 Jun 2011 01:50 PM PDT

I look at the days ahead and wonder.

Don’t we all?

And then these words:

“Go in the strength you have…am I not sending you?” Judges 6:14

We don’t have to…

wait to overcome our weaknesses,

complete the ten point improvement plan,

figure everything out.

The strength we already have is all the strength we need.

Because we have a limitless God within us who loves us.

As is.

And He promises to stick by us.

All the way.

Make a memory today!

Heart to Heart with Holley

You’re seen

My family has a favorite phrase: “We’ll see…”

We add it at the end of stories. Grab onto it to describe the future. Toss it into the middle of decisions.

It works pretty well.

And yet lately I’ve found myself wondering what it might mean to add more to the end of that phrase–to not simply stop at “We’ll see.” What if I finished the sentence?

We’ll see…God come through in amazing ways.

We’ll see…how He’ll work all of this out.

We’ll see…His goodness in the middle of the happy and hard places.

Yes, He knows all our circumstances, every hair on our heads, every care in our hearts.

He’ll see…always has, always will.

And somehow that’s enough to make me close my eyes and smile for awhile.

Your turn: We’ll see…{how would you finish that sentence?}

Have a wonderful Monday!

Heart to Heart with Holley: Plant your seeds.

Plant your seeds…

I dig through the bottom of my purse. A couple of wrappers, a few receipts, and other stray items find their way to my fingertips. Then I brush against a small, square envelope.

“What’s that?” I wonder.

I pull it out and realize it’s a packet of Rosemary seeds. Stephanie Bryant gave them to me at the first planting for The Farm.

I headed home with good intentions of putting them in a pot that same day.

And then life got busy.

I pause and think of how I do that so often with other kinds of seeds–intentions, ideas, words I could write.

I carry them home to my heart and think, “Yes! I will plant my seeds.”

And then life gets busy.

Can anyone relate?

The good news is–it’s not too late.

We can still plant our seeds.

We can still say “yes” to what God is asking of us.

We can still see new growth in our lives.

Sow your seed in the morning, and at evening let not your hands be idle, for you do not know which will succeed, whether this or that, or whether both will do equally well. Ecclesiastes 11:6

{Did you catch that? We don’t even have to be sure how it will turn out to go for it.}

I think I’ve got a pretty pot in the garage that’s calling my name today…

You too?

Don’t leave God out of the Lord’s Day!

Heart to Heart with Holley: What are you created to do?

Posted: 09 Jun 2011 02:29 PM PDT

Hands and Flowers photo by Man & His Cam {flickr creative commons}I can just picture her, fingers intent on the keyboard, eyes fixed on the screen, sending a question across the miles that so many of us only dare to ask within our hearts…

How do I know what I’m created to do? It’s not a question with an easy answer. But I do believe there are ways to do some investigating.

Of course, all of us are first intended to LOVE the One who made us and those He places in our lives. But we each do that in unique, specific ways.

To discover more about yours, ask yourself these questions:

When do I feel most alive? Think of the moments when you lose track of time, when you’re fully engaged, when you feel the strongest.

When do I bless others? There are things you do that create a response in others. You encourage, comfort, nurture, organize and those around you are better for it.

When do I feel closest to God? There may be odd moments in your life that seem like they’re not even spiritual–you’re cooking or talking with a friend or preparing a report–but somehow you still sense God’s presence with you.

Were there words or themes repeated in your answers? If so, they’re probably closely connected to what you’re created to do.

If you didn’t find anything, that’s okay too. Just start paying close attention as you go through your day and ask God to show you more about who you are and how He wants you to live that out.

It’s a process that takes time–and it may even change depending on what season of life you’re in too.

What was your answer to one of the questions above? I’d love to know!

Did you come up with an answer?  What are you created to do?  I think I have my answer.
