Well my mommy went back to work last week so we have been very busy. I’m doing great. I haven’t cried for her once. Right now I’m staying with my mimi and I just love her. My seizures have been about the same. We did increase my lamictal again but haven’t noticed any change. I’m on 20mg twice a day and we were hoping to see some improvement by now but we will see. My mommy did get me a new therapy toy. I’m trying to push behind things which is great but I’m too tall for the push toys. Well my Granny B bought a grocery cart. Mommy tried it out with me and then she went and bought me one. It is the perfect height for me. We put my mickey mouse in the seat and a bag of rice in the basket. The rice helps weight it down for me. I don’t like it that much but I can walk behind it. If you notice in the picture I’m taking a step with my right foot 🙂 So even though I don’t like it, it is great therapy for me. I haven’t heard from Detroit yet but as soon as I know something I will let you all know. I hope you enjoy the pictures of me playing in the mud. Can you tell how much I loved it 🙂 Mommy said its great sensory therapy too.

Pray for me as I have some dental work done today and my family as we make decisions this week about Momma’s care when she is released from the hospital Saturday.

 

Pray for our military as they serve around the world to protect freedoms and rights.

 

Pray for politicians on the local, state, national, and world level.  Pray they will put God first and politics somewhere later in their list of priorities.

 

Weekly Prayer Highlights (SBC)

August 17, 2011

* Praise Lord for making Himself known to a small group of women involved in a church plant in easternHungary!

* Pray for the salvation of a couple in Portugal who stayed after dinner for two hours for an eager discussion about faith, Jesus, and having a relationship with God.

* Thank the Lord that more than 60 radios were distributed in 20 market towns in China so that the Iron Pea people could hear the Good News; word has come that so far, 34 have put their faith in Jesus Christ!

* Pray that people in Japan will come to know the One who is called the Wonderful Counselor as “heart care” specialists listen and offer solid life advice and hope.

 

 

Heart to Heart with Holley: Finish your ride…

Last week I wrote about climbing the impossible. And as I set out on my bike last Sunday, I felt sure no hill could stand in my way.

And then.

As I tackled the last steep incline, I felt a pop beneath me and skidded to a halt miles away from home in the blazing summer sun. I spotted a police car parked a few yards away. Timidly, I approached the vehicle and cleared my throat.

“Can I use your cell phone?” 

The phone rang without an answer. The policeman looked at my bike quizically and asked, “Think it will fit in the back seat?” I shrugged my shoulders, “Worth a try.”

We wedged that bike into the back like a sardine. The policeman cleared the passenger seat, pointed to it and said, “I usually don’t let people ride up here.”

I nodded and slipped in the door.  I tried to reassure him that I was not, in fact, an intimidating traveling partner. “I’ve never been in a police car before!” I declared.“That’s a good thing,” he responded sternly. I noted he drove above the speed limit–probably because I smelled so bad.

As we pulled up in front of my house, my wide-eyed husband came to the front of the garage and looked at me as if to ask, “What did you do now?” 

We popped my bike out of the back seat and I was home. The policeman answered my thanks with a single sentence, “Have a nice day, ma’am.”

Safe on my sofa, I reflected on the difference between last week’s ride and this one. Sometimes we do climb the impossible. We push through and realize we’re stronger than we ever knew. And sometimes God, in His loving care, makes a way for us to be carried instead just when we need it most.

Either way, He promises we’ll finish the ride.

Either way, we get Home.

And, in the end, that’s really all that matters.

 

God loves us enough to carry us through the difficult times in our lives.  I’m so thankful for that and know you are too!

(September 25, 1944 – August 14, 2011)

Thelma M. Wood was born September 25, 1944 and passed away at 11:35 a.m., Sunday, August 14, 2011 at The Carpenter House of St. Joseph Hospice, Baton Rouge, LA. She was 66, a native of Morganza and a resident of Greensburg.

Thelma is survived by a daughter, Tonya Holden and husband Mark, Central; 2 sons, Ronnie Wood, Iowa and Charles Wood, Greensburg; 7 grandchildren, Nicesha Holden, French Settlement, Landon Holden, Watson, Joshua Holden, Denham Springs, Kristen Campbell, Oklahoma, Marty Wood, Oklahoma, Harley Wood, Walker and Brandon Garrett, Greensburg; 2 great grandchildren, Kalee Holden and Aniston Campbell; sister, Claudine Dixon, Tunica; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

Preceded in death by her parents, William and Ouida Kennedy Richmond; husband, Clarence Wood; 2 sisters, Nettie Morris and Evelyn Dunaway; brother, Marion Yarborough

Lay Renewal will be this weekend at First Baptist Church, Kentwood.

Tonight’s cottage prayer meeting will be at Gail and Tom Brister’s home.

Friday will begin with supper at the church.

Saturday morning, there will be coffee gathering around town followed by services at the church.

Sunday will be the last day and night.

Mark your calendar to attend.

Thursday David and I will host our regular monthly gathering at the cabin.  We hope you will join us for supper, fellowship, a devotional, and a prayer time.  The time is 6:30.

 WEIGHED DOWN

A few stupid criminal stories:

One man robbed a liquor store at gunpoint and demanded all of the cash from the register. He then asked for some liquor, but the cashier declined saying that he didn’t look 21. The robber again demanded, but the cashier declined saying that he could not give liquor to anyone under 21.  The stupid criminal proceeded to show the cashier his driver’s license to prove he was 21!  The cashier took down his information, gave the robber his liquor, and called the police when he left. The robber was arrested AT HIS HOME later that evening.

Another guy was in a verbal lineup (where you have to say something to see if the victim can identify you by voice). He was told to say “Give me your money or I’ll shoot you”, and he refused to do it. When asked why by the detective, he said “Because that’s not what I said”!

David Posman 33, was arrested in Providence, R.I, after allegedly knocking out an armored car driver and stealing the closest four bags of money. It turned out they contained $800 in PENNIES, weighed 30 pounds each, and slowed him to a stagger during his getaway so that police officers easily jumped him from behind.

David Posman is not the first person to make the mistake of trying to run while being weighed down.  In fact, it happens spiritually all the time. The Hebrew writer talks about sin being a weight that keeps us from effectively running the Christian race.  We can get bogged down with things that pull us away from God.  And, by the way, as with Posman, those things that are weighing us down are not worth nearly as much as we thought they were when we grabbed hold of them.

“Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us.” (Hebrews 12:1)

Anything weighing you down?  May you lay it aside as you run the Christian race today.

Helen Bridges Strickland
July 25, 1925 – August 5, 2011
 Helen Bridges Strickland was born July 25, 1925 and died August 5, 2011 at Kentwood Manor Nursing Home after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. She was a member of Kentwood Methodist Church.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, August 14, 2011 at 2 p.m. at Woodland Cemetery, Kentwood.

She is survived by Gwyenth Broyles Norck, Melissa Broyles Anderson, and Herbert Broyles.

She was preceded in death by her husband Buel B. Strickland.

At her request, her body was donated to LSU Medical Center.

Wayne Ray Addison
(January 22, 1940 – August 11, 2011)

Wayne Ray Addison was born on January 22, 1940 in Tangipahoa Parish and passed away on August 11, 2011 at his residence in Amite, La. He was 71 years old.

Wayne is survived by his wife, Brenda B. Addison, Amite, 3 daughters, Brenda K. Addison Stevens and husband Terry, Loranger, Taylor Addison, Amite, and Haley Ardillo Addison, Amite, 3 sons, Mark Wayne Addison, Amite, Olen Wilkes Addison, Amite, and Trey Addison, Amite, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, step-children, Michelle Burns, Bo Burns, Stephanie Burns Warren and husband Jesse, and John Van Burns, 1 sister, Sandra Jo Addison, Amite, 2 brothers, Donald Addison and wife Janice, Chesbrough, and Jerry Addison, Amite.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Josephine Willie Addison, and 1 brother, Herbert Addison

Graveside Services were held at 5:00 P.M. at Lee Cemetery, East of Amite, Friday, August 12, 2011.

Saturday

Terry Bankston had a second surgery yesterday.  It did not go quite as well as the first one did.  Please continue to pray for Terry and Iris Courtney Bankston of Amite.  Terry is in room 4110 (ICU) at Tulane Hospital.

Momma is doing better and beginning to focus on going home.  That will be a while yet, but the goal is enough to encourage her to work extra hard to get better.

Daddy is having a side-effect from a new medication.  Pray we can get his tended to before it develops into a bigger problem.

The Lay Renewal at FBC, Kentwood is next weekend.  Pray for the final preparations to run smoothly.
