Vincent Louis Rispone
(February 23, 1921 – December 16, 2013)

Vincent Louis Rispone, 92 years old of Amite, passed away Monday, December 16, 2013 at North Oaks Medical Center in Hammond. He was born February 23, 1921, in Amite, to Joseph Emmanuel and Frances Campo Rispone. Vince was a veteran of the United States Army. He was a Tangipahoa Sheriff deputy for twenty years under Sheriff Tom Sanders and served as a detective for Frank Edwards, Jr. until his retirement from law enforcement. He was an avid football and baseball enthusiast and coached little league baseball in Amite for many years. He is survived by his wife of sixty four years, Evelyn Sharkey Rispone; one son, Vincent Jerry Rispone, Sr and wife, Kathy; one daughter, Linda Rispone Hulsey, all of Amite; five grandchildren, Melissa Blair Rispone, Hunter Leigh Hulsey, Thomas Heath Hulsey, all of Amite, Vincent “Jero” Rispone, Jr, Houston, TX and Haley Hulsey White, LaPlace; one great grandchild, Ben Rispone Latino, Amite and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by parents, Joseph Emmanuel and Frances Campo Rispone; four brothers, Joe, Tony, Sam and John Rispone; two sisters, Josephine Rispone Arnone and Catherine Rispone Liuzza. Pallbearers will be, Pete Arnone, Heath Hulsey, Jack Liuzza, Jero Rispone, Joseph Rispone and Samuel Rispone. Honorary Pallbearers will be Emile Bellavia, John Campo, Mickey Catalanotto, Roger Dangerfield, Angelo Giardina, J.C.Ricks and Gerald Simmons. Visitation at St. Helena Catholic Church 8:30 a.m. until religious services at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 18, 2013. Services conducted by Fr. Mark Beard. Interment Mulberry Street Cemetery, Amite. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the St. Helena Catholic Church Building Fund, 122 S. 1st St., Amite, LA 70422. Monday Addition

We are looking forward to hearing Christmas music at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Albany.  Rev. Joe Dunn, who grew up in Greensburg, is the pastor.  The minister of music is our long-time friend, Rev. Dennis Walker.   The Living Christmas Tree will be at 7:00 tonight and Tuesday.

Directions – Take the Albany exit from I-12.  Turn north toward town.  The church will be on the right about a mile from the interstate, before you reach town.

Tonight’s bonus: Kacie and Kody Walker will both has solos tonight!

Yesterday, was a church filled day from Sunday School to a wake last night.  I was too tired last night to start The Prayer Link or get up as early today as usual.

Thankfully, Susan Rimes is feeling much better and was able to be at church yesterday.

Pray for Penny Dees McDowell as she has surgery at noon today at Touro in New Orleans to make some repairs from the last surgery.  This surgery is hoped to be less difficult on on even allowing her to be recovered enough to enjoy Christmas with the family.

Pray for Donna Fay Miller as she sees her doctor again tomorrow.  Pray for a good report.

Pray for Bro. Mike of East Fork Baptist Church and others as they do chain saw work as part of Baptist disaster relief in Oklahoma.

Lottie Moon Christmas Offering

Lottie used the smell of freshly baked cookies drifting out her kitchen window to draw in children who were forbidden to talk to the “foreign devil”.   Then. she became known as the “cookie lady”.

From the Web site for Woman’s Missionary Union (www.wmu.com):

As a way to earn the trust of the people and show her goodwill, Lottie Moon made tea cakes for the children in her village in China. Once the children ate the cookies, they would take Lottie to their homes where she would share the gospel with their mothers. The children began calling Lottie “the cookie lady” instead of “foreign devil.”

Plain Tea Cake (As made by Lottie Moon)
Three teacups of sugar
One teacup of butter
One teacup of sour milk
Four pints flour
Three eggs, well beaten
Half a teaspoon of soda
Flavor to taste, roll thin, bake in a quick oven.

Adapted recipe:
2 cups flour
½ cup butter
1 heaping cup of sugar
1 well-beaten egg
1 tablespoon cream

Cream the butter and sugar. Add the egg and mix well. Add the flour and cream. Dust a board with flour. Roll the dough very thin. Cut cookies with a round cookie cutter. Place on a buttered or nonstick cookie sheet. Bake at 475 degrees for about 5 minutes.

Albert Joseph Ashmore
(June 24, 1945 – December 14, 2013)

A resident of Greensburg, LA, he died at 2:45 a.m. on Saturday, December 14, 2013 at Baton Rouge General Medical Center on Bluebonnet. He was born June 24, 1945 in Plaquemine and was 68 years of age. He was a retired Major with the Louisiana Department of Correction. He is survived by his wife, Janie M. Ashmore; daughter, Laura R. Ashmore; grandson, Michael Joseph Cardy; 5 sisters, Lillie Bovard, Linda d’Monye’, Faye Dunlap, Jan LaBorde and Dale Rochel; numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents, Albert F. Ashmore and Delta M. Richardson; 2 sisters, Virgie Ann Beach and Birdie Ashmore; brother, David Aucoin. Visitation at New Zion Baptist Church, Kentwood, from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Sunday and from 9 a.m. until religious services at 11 a.m. on Monday, December 16, 2013. Services conducted by Rev. Rev. Dennis Walker invited us to attend church/supper at his church, Bethlehem Baptist, in Albany last night because of a special speaker they had to promote the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering.  The visiting missionaries are based in Prague, Czech Republic, where Jennie and her family live and serve.  What a joy and a blessing to hear Will and Rachel speak to the group and to us personally.  May God continue to bless their ministry and to give them comfort as they leave their oldest child to attend college at Southeastern.

If you have never experienced a living Christmas tree, I highly recommend this.  My Texas uncle, Charles Tolleson, did this with his choirs.  This has been done at FBC, Amite in the past.  Now, it is in Albany.  Be blessed and be put in the right mood for the holiday –  to celebrate the birth of Jesus.

Yesterday morning I find out that I have bronchitis. Last night I’m giving myself an insulin shot and the entire needle broke off in my stomach. I will be seeing my surgeon today on how to remove it.

How do you not laugh at this? It makes me remember playing Clue. Internist with bronchitis in his office …. ER dr in hospital with a needle??
