A resident of Kentwood died at 12:19 a.m. on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at North Oaks Medical Center in Hammond. She was born January 25, 1928 in St. Helena Parish and was 85 years of age. She was a lifelong member of New Zion Baptist Church. Survived by 2 sons, James M. Blades and wife, Peggy and Cade R. Blades and wife, Lora; 2 grandchildren, Jamie Glynn Blades and Marissa Blades Triola; 3 great grandchildren; and 1 nephew, Brandon Carter. Preceded in death by husband, James B. Blades; parents, George and Virgie Needham and sister, Georgia Needham Carter. Visitation at New Zion Baptist Church from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m., Monday and from 8 a.m. until religious services at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, January 21, 2014. Services conducted by Rev. Bill Galloway. Survived by husband, Tommy Garner; 1 daughter, Morgan Garner; 3 sons, Coady, Caden and Caleb Garner; mother, Connie Adams and husband, Ronald; father, William “Pettey” McElveen; 2 sisters, Sara Sanders and Regina Robertson; 1 brother, David McElveen; and mother in law and father in law, Donald and Carolyn Garner.
