Marilyn Bond Morgan

August 17, 1931 – February 14, 2019

A light is gone, and heaven is enriched with the passing of Marilyn Bond Morgan. A resident of Montpelier, she passed away on Thursday, February 14, 2019 at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Walker. She is survived by her 4 children, Bobbie Lynn Morgan, Cindi Morgan Blades and Bill, Thomas Parker Morgan, Sr., Jonathan Sandifer Morgan and Donna; 4 grandchildren, Kim Konzelman Webb and Wil, Cortney Hamilton Burch, Thomas Parker Morgan, Jr. and Brittany, and Brittany Laine Morgan; 8 great-grandchildren, William Baylor Travis and Janna, Emilee Claire Webb, Maggie Catherine Webb, Mia Catherine Clemons, Jaxson Gage Burch, Cooper Thomas Burch, Elly Parker Burch, and Briggs Law Burch; sister, Jewel Bond Washington; and longtime friend Ernest A. Watts, Jr.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas E. “Bobbie” Morgan; parents, Henry and Nannie Brown Bond; grandson, Robert William Clemons, Jr.; brother, William “Bill” Bond; sister, Charlotte Bond Prewitt.

Marilyn was born August 17, 1931 in Montpelier and was 87 years of age. She was a graduate of the Baton Rouge Business College and during her life she was employed with the Welfare Department, as a Dairy Farmer, and with the United States Postal Service in Pine Grove, Greensburg and Hammond. She was a member of Montpelier United Methodist Church, the Daughters of the American Revolution, and the St. Helena Parish Forestry Association.

She was a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. She loved sharing her life’s past times, playing cards, LSU football and was always on the go. She especially enjoy her most recent travels with her first grade classmate and friend of eighty years, Ernest Watts. Marilyn was a faithful servant of her community, church and, Lord. She was known as “MawMaw Marilyn” to many, and will be truly missed.

Visitation at McKneely Funeral Home, Amite, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Sunday. Visitation will resume on Monday at Montpelier United Methodist Church from 9 a.m. until religious services at 11 a.m. Interment Montpelier Cemetery, Montpelier. Blood Drive – FBC, Kentwood will host it’s annual blood drive next Sunday, the 24th. If you will be able to donate blood, please call the church office and get a designated time.

Today is the day Jennie planned to come for a visit. After David’s last hospitalization, she came earlier. She has been so helpful doing the three things I requested and much more. She will be here until the 28th. Join me in thanking God and her family for sharing her with us. Today, she will drive him to Baton Rouge for an injection and I will stay here to do something else. Pray all goes according to plans.

Phillip M. Strickland, went home peacefully to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, February 15, 2019 at his home in Osyka, MS surrounded by his loving family. He was born November 5, 1976 in McComb, MS and was 42 years of age. He was a loving husband and father. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Kentwood, a member of Crossfit of Amite and a member of the APA Pool League. He is survived by his wife, Mindy Bankston Strickland; 2 daughters, Lillian James Strickland and Laila Renee’ Baham; mother, Colleen Lambert Strickland; 1 sister, Shelia Strickland Childress and husband, Andy; nieces and nephew, Silas, Meredith and Amelia Childress. Preceded in death by father, Michael Phillip Strickland; grandparents, Percy and Sharron Strickland and Arvis and Mattie Lambert. September 30, 1926 – February 12, 2019

Doris Helen Courtney Parish, 92, a resident of Greensburg and former resident of Jackson, LA, passed away on Tuesday, February 12, 2019 at Lakeview Regional Medical Center in Mandeville. She was retired from East Louisiana State Hospital with 27 plus years of service. Visitation will be on Thursday, February 14, 2019 at Charlet Funeral Home, Inc., Zachary from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Visitation will continue on Friday, February 15, 2019 at Second Baptist Church in Jackson, LA from 10:00 am until service time at 12noon. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Doris is survived by her children, Linda Whittington Smith(Ray), Jim Partin(Melissa), Fae Lee, John Parish(Terry), Claude Parish(Pam), Homer Parish(Glenda), Phyllis Parish Bryant(John), Mary Anne Parish Newman, 20 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and 10 great great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, John and Lillie Courtney, sons and daughter in law, Jerry and Thelma Whittington, Paul Partin and Billy Aucoin, 4 brothers and 1 sister. She was a 1943 graduate of McKowen High School.
Pallbearers will be Brantley Newman, Matthew Bryant, Keaton Ellis, TJ Hartley, Adam Parish and Alex Parish. Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude’s Childrens Research in Memphis, TN.

Please pray for Cora Morris of Amite. She has had one problem after another. The broken ankle has taken her from home to PAM Specialty with the next stop being Landmark.

So, it’s with a very heavy, heavy, heart that I tell you that my Mom, Cora Morris, is in PAM Specialty Hospital of Hammond for 3-5 days before being transported to Landmark Skilled Nursing Facility where she will stay until she has fully recuperated from breaking her ankle! Prayers are certainly appreciated but, most of all, she needs visits and phone calls from her friends and family while she’s away from home so she doesn’t feel alone or forgotten!! Mildred Dunn, 73, died February 9, at her home in Tickfaw with her family by her side. Millie was born January 17,1945 in Amite La, to Ikey and Elma Cutrer. In 1963 Millie began a thirty year carer with South Central Bell and retired in 1993, where she was a union representative and voice of help for workers rights. She was featured among “The Voices” brochure and recognized for her uncanny ability to service needs and provide customer care. Those award winning attributes followed her into her next career of 12 years at North Oaks Hospital as a patient Representative. She offered care and hospitality to all those she met and was easily recognized by her large smile and friendly greetings. In her later years she continued in her services to the community as a volunteer at Eagle Heights Community Church,CASA, Mary bird Perkins, and many other organizations.

Millie was a true servant but nothing pleased her more than her role as a mother, grandmother, great grandmother and wife. Nothing would stop her from always being there to love and encourage each of them along the way. Along with her biological children are many others who proudly called her “Mama Millie.” She was truly a mama to all and always willing to offer a listening ear.

Millie is survived by her husband Larry Allen Dunn, Brother Charles Cutrer and sister Audrey Cutrer. Her children Kevin Dunn, Craig Dunn, and Lynette Taylor. Daughter and Son in Laws, Lisa Dunn, Beth Dunn, and Michael Taylor. Grand Children Joshua Dunn, Caleb Dunn, Hannah Dunn, Christian Dunn, Jordan Dunn, Grant Dunn, Joel Dunn, and Milanya Taylor. Great Grand Children Elise Dunn and Ella Kate.

She is preceded in death by her father Ikee Cutrer, Mother Elma Brown Cutrer, Her sister Avos Partin, brothers Billy Cutrer, Carl Cutrer and Arvy Cutrer.

Family and friends will be received at Eagle Heights Church, 47318 Rufus Bankston Rd Hammond, Louisiana, on Wednesday, February 13, 2019 from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm.

A resident of Greensburg passed away on Sunday, February 10, 2019 at St. Helena Parish Nursing Home in Greensburg. He was born August 22, 1931 in Greensburg and was 87 years of age. He was a retired Bridge Supervisor for the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development and served as a Sheriff’s Deputy for 56 years with the St. Helena Parish Sheriff’s Office. He is survived by his 3 sons, Jule Charles Wascom and wife, Dottie, Tom Ed Wasom and wife, Anita, and Ricky Wascom and wife, Glenda; grandchildren, Scotty, Robby, Bobby, Jaime, Ryan, and Rusty; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; sister, Imogene Wascom. The Brave Sometimes Wander Too Far Alone!

New Update on David – I guess David got too confident with the improvement in mobility he made last week. While I was in the laundry room and Jennie was in the cabin, David left the den and went to the bathroom using in cane. He leaned the cane on the counter, but it slipped. He stooped to pick it up, did not hold on to anything, and landed on his back. He called me, so I went to the den expecting to find him.

He was on his back in the bathroom and had a bleed on the back of the head, so we got him up, into the car, and went to the ER in Greensburg. Thankfully, testing showed he was okay.

Today, we are still thankful for the improved mobility he achieved through the PT and OT. We do wish he was more careful though. God watches out for us sometimes when we make poor choices. David is not even sore today!

Several area churches now broadcast live worship services. You can find FBC, Kentwood’s service at 10:30 on Kentwood, First Baptist Church. This is a convenience for those who are homebound, an opportunity to watch a service from a different church, and a way to share the ministry of FBC, Kentwood with others. One neat thing about this is you can watch live or any time later when you have the opportunity.

The Youth on Mission group will meet at 5 P.M. today in the missions room. Thanks to all who helped them with their mission project by bringing soup which was given to the Hope Center in Roseland.
