Update on Yvonne Birch

 Yvonne had four by-passes yesterday morning.  She did well.  Continue to pray for her as she has some recovery time at the hospital and at home.  Thank-you for praying for her.

 

 

Update on Linda Callihan

Mom had her stitches removed and a good report from the oncology surgeon at MDA. The not so good side was this type of cancer is aggressive as it spreads like a virus. It can reappear anywhere in her body. Because of this, she will need 25 radiation treatments. We are working to schedule when the treatments will begin. Again, we appreciate all the prayers and support. – Robbie Lynn

 

 

Amber Prine Regan

Amber is a daughter, a wife, a mother, and a teacher as are some other members of her family.  Many of you will recognize the Prine name from her Osyka relatives.  She had a reoccurrence of cancer and will have a ten hour surgery at MD Anderson today.

 

 

Glenda Harrell

Glenda will have her surgery next Wednesday.  Please be praying for her.

 

 

Ann Hyde Ballard

February 11, 1933 – July 17, 2018

A resident of Roseland passed away on Tuesday, July 17, 2018 at her home surrounded by her loving family and friends. She was born February 11, 1933 in Chesbrough and was 85 years of age.

Ann was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend to all she knew. She began her career as a nurse and later went on to own and manage numerous family businesses.

She is survived by her daughter, Renee Ballard Durio and husband, Russell; 2 sons, Jimmy Ballard and wife, Aimee, and Freddie Carl Ballard and wife, Pearl; 12 grandchildren, Rachel Ballard, Robert Ballard, Leslie Cuti, Trenton Ballard, Jennifer Davenport, Keri Thornton, Bryan Saint, James Ballard, Josh Ballard, Logan Ballard, Baylor Blanchard, and Emilee Edwards; 14 great-grandchildren; brother, Bill Hyde and wife, Mary; sister-in-law, Sally Higgins.

Preceded in death by husband, Freddie Ballard; parents, Charles and Ethel Hyde; 2 sisters, Rita Lea and Elizabeth Stevens; 2 brothers, Charles and Johnny Hyde.

Alan Didon of the Folsom area also passed away.  He was 13.  Bro. Darryl Miller had the privilege of telling him about Jesus and leading him to salvation as well as baptizing him about two weeks ago.  His arrangements are incomplete at this time.  Please be in prayer for the family.

Please continue to pray for Yvonne Birch as she “does nothing” for a few more days while waiting for by-pass surgery Wednesday in Covington.
Robbie  Lynn C. Kirby sent me this update on her mom, Linda Callihan.  She also posted it.  I’ll share for those who may not have seen it.
Mom has been healing and resting. The hardest part has been finding how to function while taking it slow. Those who know mom can chuckle at this. We have learned that after care is better by comparing week by week and not day by day. We are preparing for the next step of care per MD Anderson and radiation. The prayers, meals, donations, and other support has been amazing. Thank you.

Reminders

  • Today is the day to announce the WMU “Show and Tell” meeting at Spring Creek Baptist Church tomorrow at 10 A.M.  We will all learn more about how we can be hands-on with our mission activities.  There will be crafts that everyone is capable of doing.  Come find the ones you want to do for missions.  The meeting will be followed by a covered dish lunch.
  • Saturday, we will have another project day for missions from nine to noon.  At the end of the meeting, you will be about to get a “shoebox” and get five items my out “stash”, including some of the items we have crafted on our project days.  You may want to bring some of the following items: medium size rocks to paint, clean, used t-shirts, highlighters, pony beads, hotel soaps, scissors, and pens.
  • The following Tuesday, July 24th, we will have out monthly “Young” Ladies’ Birthday Party at The Cafe.  Ladies being honored this month are Bobbie Magee,Barbara Erwin, Janice Hornsby, Martha  Griffith, Debbie Bales, and Anne Hurst.  Please make a special effort to contact some ladies to remind them of our gathering.
  • The children who meet for missions on Wednesday nights are spending July doing mission projects.  They are enthusiastic about missions and about making things to share.  We meet at 6 P.M.  This Wednesday, they are encouraged to bring rocks which they will paint for a local mission project.

 

 

Have a wonderful day today studying God’s Word and worshipping Him with others.  Sunday School begins at 9:15 and worship at 10:30.

Leon Chambers

Leon Chambers, a resident of Independence, passed away on Thursday, July 12, 2018. He was born February 21, 1933 in Independence and was 85 years of age. Robert Frank Munch, Sr.

Our mission team of 35 who were in Haiti made it to New Orleans about 1:30 this morning.  Thank God for watching over them.  The five Hammond people from The Mission Church hope to leave Haiti today.  Pray for them to be able to travel safely too.

 

 

Debbie Bales had a heart test that showed good results.  Not only was she at peace during the testing, but she was able to help calm another lady who was stressed out about having a nuclear stress test.  Debbie says thanks to all who prayed for her.

 

 

Please continue to pray for Bro. Darryl and his family as they deal with sick and aging parents.   I miss seeing his parents at church.

 

 

Yvonne Birch called yesterday to ask me to add her name to the prayer list.  She learned she will have five by-passes next Wednesday, the 18th.  She asks for your prayers.  As you pray for her peace during this time, please also pray for Dr. Breaux and other medical staff who will be working with her at Lakeview Hospital in Covington.

Pray for the children from FBC, K as they complete camp and return home.  I think they will get back about 2 P.M.  Pray that lives were changed during this time.

 

 

Despite our VBS always being the first week of June, many other churches are having their VBS now.  Pray young lives are touched by the various VBS opportunities.

Pray for out Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes.  Once again, yesterday, I had the opportunity to tell a store clerk about OCC.  They just have to ask how I am using all the things I get to purchase.  I, like some of you, cannot let the opportunity pass without sharing about this wonderful ministry.  I get to inform children about Jesus and inform clerks about the OCC ministry at the same time.

We will meet on Monday, July 16th, at Spring Creek Baptist Church at 10 A.M. (The leadership team will meet at 9 A.M.) Please bring teachers who are out of school, girls who are out of school, people from your church or neighborhood who are interested in crafts and/or missions, etc. Most importantly, bring samples of mission crafting you have done or plan to do. The can be for OCC Shoeboxes, mission trips, neighborhood missions, etc. The point is we can all learn from a good show-and-tell for missions. See you on the 16th.

Mr. Jimmy Tolar not only was released from the hospital, he was back in church yesterday!

 

 

Mr. Buddy Morris has an appointment with an oncologist in Covington tomorrow.  Pray for good questions and answers as well as peace of mind.

 

 

Linda Callihan will be at home with Robbie Lynn keeping her company.  The next appointment at MD Anderson will be in three weeks to get biopsy results which will determine the radiation treatment.

 

 

Read the Bible – Reflect on God as Perfector and catch up on readings.

 

 

The “Young” Ladies Birthday Party will be tomorrow at 11:00 A.M. at The Cafe.  If you like to fellowship and eat with a group of ladies, this is a good monthly event.  Honoring ladies on their birthdays is always a worthy event as the years add up.  After that, there will be a time to work together at the church braiding jump-ropes for Operation Christmas Child.

 

 

There will be no Friday Morning Bible Study for the next few weeks.  I’ll notify you when we get ready to complete Romans.

Faye Bennett was in Baton Rouge Ochsner.  She was taken to Ochsner in Jefferson for a liver biopsy.  She’s back in Baton Rouge and practicing her waiting skills.  She will appreciate you praying for her.

 

 

Rev. Bill Ichter, a former music minister in Amite and long-time music missionary in Brazil, fell and broke his hip.  Surgery will not be done, so this means the family will practice their nursing and waiting skills.  Bro. Bill lives in Ruston, Louisiana.

 

 

The Friday Morning Bible Studies will be on hold for a while.  We’ll get back together in August to complete Romans.

Operation Christmas Child is the organization that guides us to pack shoeboxes to give to very needy families around the world.  It also gives them the opportunity to learn about Jesus.

Shoeboxes are available at FBC, Kentwood.  They are under the stairwell to the balcony.  You may take one and follow the directions found inside the box.  I will be happy to answer any questions.  I’ve already packed some shoeboxes for David and me and will begin another set of boxes soon.  When you allow Operation Christmas Child to work in your heart, you just want to do more and more so children will have the greatest opportunity in their life, meeting Jesus!

“Young” Ladies’ Birthday Party – Tuesday at The Cafe at 11 A.M.

 

 

I’ve already packed my first group of shoeboxes.   I keep getting ideas in my head about more boxes and am anxious to do more.  I choose to pack boxes for the older boys and girls because that is the group that receives the least number of boxes.  I love the idea of helping little children have an opportunity to hear about Jesus and to receive gifts they would not normally receive.  It’s amazing how much can be stuffed in a “shoebox”!   Shoeboxes are available under the stairwell to the balcony.  They contain papers you need to read and to remove from the shoeboxes before packing.  The label is already on the top of the box.  You can give me your filled shoeboxes any time.

Josiah Huckaby is at home!!!!!

So I’m a little slow getting this update posted…but Josiah got to come home Monday evening!!! He’s doing great & loving being at home! We have been very busy trying to get things unloaded & organized, as well as trying to keep up with his crazy med list & schedule but I feel like we are starting to work out some kinks in our routine. It hasn’t been easy and frankly I’m exhausted but it is completely worth it…and I was able to get some much needed sleep last night! To God be the glory!!! 😁       KK

 

 

I talked with Eleanor last night.  She and Buddy Morris were still home waiting.  I’ll post an update when I know they are back at the hospital.

James E. Cormier, a resident of Holden passed away on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at his home. He was born January 2, 1951 in Lafayette and was 67 years of age. He was a member of Hillsdale Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Jane Mitchell, Holden; son, Anthony Cormier, Jackson, LA as well as many other sons, daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Cathy Macaluso, Ponchatoula, and Sister Seals, Tylertown, MS; 4 brothers, Mike Cormier, Denham Springs, Terry Tullos, Amite, Jr. Tullos, Albany, and Dicky Tullos, Walker. Preceded in death by his son, Joseph Cormier; parents, Burleigh Cormier and Edolia Smith. Barbara Jean Whitlock Belser

January 22, 1933 – June 16, 2018

Barbara Jean Whitlock Belser passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 16, 2018 in Georgetown, Texas. She was born on January 22, 1933 in Bronson, Texas to Carl Fisher Whitlock and Mabel Royer Whitlock. She was a graduate of St. Mary Nursing School in Galveston, Texas, during which time she met on a blind date Robert Dewey “Bob” Belser, who was attending the University of Texas Medical School, also in Galveston. The two married on June 26, 1953 in Beaumont, Texas. Following his graduation from medical school, Bob joined the U.S. Navy Medical Corp. During the course of his navy career, Bob and Barbara would be stationed at various naval bases in the continental United States and eventually in Sasebo, Japan. While Bob continued his medical service, Barbara served as a navy wife and mother. Following his naval career, Bob and Barbara moved to Greensburg, Louisiana, where Bob continued in private medical practice and Barbara would later work at the St. Helena Parish Nursing Home. Their children attended Greensburg High School and Oak Forest Academy. Bob and Barbara later lived in Round Rock, Texas briefly, before returning to Greensburg. Following Bob’s death, Barbara would move to Georgetown, Texas, where she died.

Barbara is preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 52 years; and her only brother, Paul Clinton Whitlock.

She is survived by her children: Robert Dewey “Bobby” Belser, Jr. and wife Mary Jo of Greensburg, Louisiana; Viki Belser Johnson and husband Johnny of Georgetown, Texas; Pamela Gaye Belser of Georgetown, Texas; Carla Belser Weathersbee and husband Byron of Salado, Texas; and David Bryan Belser and wife Shelli of Round Rock, Texas. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren: Christen Johnson Bedair and husband Casey Bedair and their daughter, Luka; Allison Johnson Holt and husband Heath Holt and their children, Rosie and Hudson; Matthew Belser; Christopher Belser and fiancée Emily ; Robert “Bo” Weathersbee and wife Julie; Brittney Weathersbee; Casey Weathersbee Spears and husband Koby; Colton Belser; and Braden Belser.

Funeral services will be held at First Baptist Church of Greensburg, LA on Tuesday, June 19, 2018. Visitation will be from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m., followed by services to be conducted by Barbara’s son-in-law Byron Weathersbee and grandson Matthew Belser. Internment will be at the Greensburg Cemetery, where Barbara will be laid to rest next to her husband.

Charles W. “Charlie” Hanks

July 16, 1932 – June 19, 2018

Charles W. “Charlie” Hanks, a resident of Greensburg, LA passed away on Tuesday, June 19, 2018 at his home. He was born July 16, 1932 in Clinton, LA and was 85 years of age. He was a U. S. Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a pipeline mechanic and a great tinkerer. He loved country music and a stiff drink from time-to-time. He is survived by his son, Charles Kevin Hanks, New York, NY; 2 sisters, Ruth Chiasson, Thibodaux, LA; Kathy Labat, Raceland, LA; and three nephews and two nieces. He was preceded in death by wife, Dorothy Bond Hanks; father, Toler Hanks; mother, Elizabeth Hanks. The family would like to extend a special thanks and gratitude to Oscar and Dawn Bridges for their devoted love and friendship for Mr. Charlie as well as a thanks to St. Joseph’s Hospice, Lisa King, and Jackie Smith. In addition, a special thank you to Ramona Powers for the brightness she brought to Charles’ life in his twilight years. Read the Bible – Reflect on God as Center and catch up on any readings you missed.

 

 

Saturday, we will be making items to send in shoeboxes.  Men, women, boys, and girls are invited to join us from 9-12 in the fellowship hall.  Crafting is always more fun with friends.  It becomes even more fun when you know the items will be shared as Christmas gifts with children who might otherwise not have and gifts this year.  In addition to the gifts, the children get an invitation to attend classes once a week for six weeks where they will be exposed to some Bible basics.  I’m thrilled to know my shoeboxes may lead some children to the Lord!  This is your invitation to join us for a fun morning that will bless each of us and eventually many children who live nowhere near Kentwood.  You may be interested in making some purchases such as small flashlights from Walmart or $1.00 calculators from the dollar stores or just bring some clean, used t-shirts which will be used in making items for the shoeboxes.

 

 

The June “Young” Ladies Birthday Party will be on the 4th Tuesday at 11:00 A.M. at The Cafe.  Ladies with June birthdays who will be honored are: Sandra Arnold, Alcyon Hayden, Barbara Hutchinson, and Judy Pervis.

 

 

 

Pray for the youth from our church and from many other churches as they spend a week at M-Fuge in Mobile.  I know it will be hot, but our kids will be out and working to bless others.  This week has potential to greatly impact our youth and the lives of those being ministered to.  Please pray for them.

 

 

 

Friday morning, we will resume our Bible study of Romans at 10:00 in the fellowship hall.
