Mrs. Jeanette McGehee is home and able to get around a little.
Lisa Cutrer had her appendix removed Thursday night and is already home.

The last information I had, Alice Faye Lee was still hospitalized.

John Alan “Johnny” Blackwell, 87, a lifelong resident of Kentwood, Louisiana passed away April 16, 2018 at North Oaks Hospital in Hammond, Louisiana.

He was born September 12, 1930 in Kentwood to J. D. Blackwell and Martha Lambert Blackwell.

He was a member of First Baptist Church Kentwood. He had many different occupations during his lifetime.

He worked as a pipe-fitter, welder, mechanic, and auto body repairman.

His favorite job was working as a truck driver for Hatcher Dairy Farm.

His retirement years were filled with many adventures. Most of these consisted of traveling the country with his loving wife, Mary Alice Simpson Blackwell in their camper.

Together, they visited every state in the continental US. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed watching his grandchildren

and great grandchildren grow and he just recently became a great great grandfather. He will be greatly missed.

He is preceded in death by his wife, his parents, his brother, J. D. (Punkin) Blackwell and his only son, Alan Ray Blackwell.

He is survived by two daughters and two sons-in-law; Marty Blackwell and husband Chaney Phillips of Ponchatoula,

and Carolyn Boyd and husband Jan Boyd of Moss Point; a daughter-in-law, Beverly Blackwell of Kentwood;

numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and the one great great grandchild; a lifelong friend, Donald Jones; special friends, Betty and Jimmy Hatcher.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, of which John was a longtime supporter.

Children in Action – Please turn in your permission slips for M-JAM by Sunday night. They need to order your t-shirts next week.

M-JAM had a huge impact on our boys and girls last year. We will attend this year’s M-JAM at Camp Tall Timbers in Alexandria on May 5th.

Mrs. Jeanette McGehee is walking some during her physical therapy time at North Oaks. That’s good. Let pray for continued progress.

The obituary for Mr. John Alan Blackwell has not been posted yet.

There will be no gathering at the cabin tonight. Thank-you for your understanding. David is improving, but still tires easily and is weak. He has regained a few pounds, but has many more to regain.

The Children in Action of FBC, Kentwood will be participating in a video which will be used for promotion of the Georgia Barnett Offering for Louisiana. I thank God for these children and the opportunity to work with them.

Last night, we played a game about choices. There are many we must make in life. The most important one is inviting Jesus into our hearts/lives. The decision is important for children, youth, and adults! Have you made the correct choice?

Mrs. Jeanette McGehee is in North Oaks with a fractured neck. Thank God it was not broken. Keep “Miss” Jeanette and Mr. Ed in your prayers.

Mr. Elwood Courtney of Holden had bladder surgery for cancer. The doctor removed a tumor the size of a softball. Mr. Elwood is doing well. He is 99. This is his 3rd round with bladder cancer. Please pray his recovery continues to go well.

A resident of Kentwood passed away on Monday, April 16, 2018 at North Oaks Medical Center in Hammond. She was born January 27, 1935 in Wheeler, MS and was 83 years of age. She is survived by son, Larry Leon Foster, Kentwood; 2 daughters, Mary Lynn Jordan and husband, Ted, and Sue Ann Huber and husband, Robert, both of Kentwood; sister, Peggy Gilley, Tupelo, MS;10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by husband, Robert Marvin Foster; parents, Leon Percy Brewer and Lillian Beatrice Cox Brewer; brother, Gerald Leon Brewer; 2 sisters, Jimmy Sue Haile and Mary Nell McCreary. Jerrye Kay Rawls

December 17, 1938 – April 15, 2018

Mrs. Jerrye Kay Hendry Rawls, 79 of Magnolia, MS passed away Sunday April 15, 2018 at McComb Nursing and Rehab.

Visitation will be Wednesday April 18, 2018 at Hartman Jones Funeral Home 1801 Delaware Ave. McComb, MS from 9:00 AM until services at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow in the Simmons Family Cemetery in Magnolia. Dr. Dave Hartson will officiate.

Mrs. Rawls was born December 17, 1938 in Amite, LA to the late Louis Hendry and was Maybelle Davis Hendry.

Jerrye Kay was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She loved God and her family dearly. She was a long time member of Bala Chitto Baptist Church of Magnolia. She had a great sense of humor and loved a good prank. She loved to have a house full of company with a meal on the table. She was not afraid of anything and was always up for a challenge. She fought for the rights of the underdog and was the first one to give to someone in need. If anyone needed a bed for the night or months she never turned anyone away. She loved crafting, mining, gardening, and fishing. She was a very skilled marksman. She taught her family the importance of family, hard work, and ensured her children were raised with strong Christian values.

She was preceded in death by her parents Louis and Maybelle Hendry; two brothers Beau and Bennett Hendry.

Survivors include her husband of 59 years Mr. Willie Rawls of Magnolia; one son David Rawls and his wife Jennifer of McComb; two daughters Tonya Perniciaro and her husband Andy of Diamondhead, MS; Jackie Davis and her husband Chuck of Phoenix, AZ; seven grandchildren Brooke Barton and her husband Dr. William Barton of Tuscaloosa, AL; Brandi Lockley and her husband Geoffrey Lockley of Oak Grove, MS; Josh Rawls and his fiancé Meghan Fadden of Mandeville, LA; Lauren Perniciaro, Logan Perniciaro, Quintin Davis and Peyton Davis; three great grandchildren William and Beau Barton and Elin Lockley; two brothers Gary Hendry and his wife Linda of Amite, LA; Shirley Littel and his wife Debbie of Amite, LA; two sisters Terrye Rhame and her husband Jerry of LaPorte, TX; Leslie Cleveland and her husband Arthur of Springfield, LA; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Sharon Phillips is still in ICU. She is not progressing as her doctors hoped. They are considering a pacemaker for her. Please continue to pray.

Meg Stephens had neck surgery yesterday according to Katera McMillan who also said the recovery was going to be difficult. Let’s pray Meg breezes through the recovery.

Stroud Phillips is hospitalized for tests. Join his many friends in praying for him.

Nick Tullier, the Baton Rouge deputy who has been going through a long difficult recovery, now has pneumonia. Pray for him and his family.

Mrs. Jeannette Maghee fell at home injuring her neck. She was taken to North Oaks. Please pray for “Miss” Jeannette and Mr. Ed.

Joanne Tate, infant daughter of Chuck and Jeanne, did very well during her heart procedure yesterday. Thank-you for praying for the Tates.

Jerrye Kaye Rawls, who grow up in Roseland, passed away. I did not locate her obituary, but her services are tomorrow in McComb.

Mr. John Alan Blackwell passed away yesterday afternoon. I’ll miss seeing him before Sunday School. His funeral arrangements are not posted yet. I’ll post them later.

The speakers at Montpelier yesterday were Mrs. Lee McLean and her granddaughter, Heather Miller. They told of a mission trip to Nicaragua in December 2017. Their narrative, pictures, and display were all very good. Later, Heather sent me a message about a trip the young adult class at New Zion will be making June 11-18, 2019. If you know of anyone who would like to go with them, you can contact Heather through me or through New Zion Baptist Church.

Pray for Joanne Tate as she has heart surgery at noon today. Pray for her family as they submit their baby for necessary surgery.

The Two Rivers Quarterly WMU Meeting will be at 10 this morning at Montpelier Baptist Church. Speakers today are Lee McLean and her granddaughter, Heather Miller. These ladies participated in a mission trip to Central America last summer. Everyone is invited to attend.

Keith and Lori Rhodes live in the neighborhood near Shreveport where a tornado hit Friday night. Their neighbor’s tree fell in the street, not on the Rhodes home. It is also the area where a little two year old girl was killed when a tree fell on a RV she was sleeping in. Please pray for the people in the child’s family. Thank God there were no other deaths.

Locally, a tornado hit north of Amite (Arcola area). Trees were down and lights off, but no lives were lost. Thank God for his protection for all the people in our area.

Pray for my former student, Joanne Seymour, who lived in Amte at the time. Joanne has colon cancer that has spread to her liver. Pray for her as she begins treatment in NY. Pray for her as she travels and for her family as they help her during her treatment.

Pray for Chuck and Jeanne Tate and their new baby, Joanna, who will have surgery Monday to open a valve in her heart. I know the family will so appreciate your prayers.

I failed to mention the Syria situation, but know all of you are aware of what has happened there recently. Please pray for a good ending to the current problems. Pray for strong and Godly leadership. Thank God for those in the military who serve all around the world so people can be safe.

Ladies’ Breakfast at FBC, Kentwood – This morning the ladies of FBC will be treated to breakfast and a speaker before Sunday School. The gathering begins at 7:45 in the fellowship hall.

Tomorrow’s Quarterly WMU meeting will be at Montpelier Baptist Church. First, there will be a leadership meeting at 9:00. The meeting will begin at 10:00 and conclude with a potluck lunch. Mrs. Lee McLean and her granddaughter, Heather Miller, will share information about their recent Mission Trip. I hope you will be able to come and to bring a friend. Join us as we focus outward in our churches.
