We have been asked a lot about my last hospital visit and I realized that I haven’t updated you guys, sorry 😂😂, more importantly, thank you for making me feel loved!!

My ultrasound revealed that I have only one detectable tumor.
The good news is that there is only the one.
The not as great news is that it is somewhat large. We were told to expect something about the size of a grain of rice or sesame seed. The tumor looks to be over an inch. This means a couple of things: I have probably had this for a long time (the most likely scenario) or it is growing rapidly. It also means that I will be able to keep the other parathyroid glands!!
The best news is that the size of the tumor will make it easier to find and remove in surgery which means less exploration.

I have a few more appointments and things to take care of prior to my surgery but I am excited to be parting ways with this little scallywag in the near future. Thanks for your prayers!!

 

 

Latest update from Amber Prine Ragan

Update (6:30 PM) The nurse just came out to talk to us. Amber is still in the final stage of surgery. She explained that Dr. Lang is in the final stages of closing her up. They should be finished within the next hour. Once they are finished we will meet with the surgeon to get the final report. We were told she would be in recovery for 1 – 2 hours before we would be able to see her. We have been so overwhelmed with all the comments, text and calls from all of our family and friends. Amber will love reading everyone’s comments. We feel your love for Amber but most of all we feel the POWER of your prayers. We will post another update tonight once we get more information from the surgeon.

ALLEN JAY DEDON, AGE 13

Gained his Angel Wings July 18, 2018. Allen is amazing, he is a fighter and has a spirit for adventure, no tree is ever too high for Allen to climb and he loves playing sports. Allen fought osteosarcoma for 2 years and never once stopped smiling or joking and his favorite person to pick on was his mom, who he regularly made jokes about. Building things with his dad is always fun and no one can ever tell what the final result will be until it’s finished. Allen has a light so bright everyone sees it when they meet him and instantly falls in love with him.

Brothers: Gavin DeDon and Jordan DeDon

Update on Yvonne Birch

 Yvonne had four by-passes yesterday morning.  She did well.  Continue to pray for her as she has some recovery time at the hospital and at home.  Thank-you for praying for her.

 

 

Update on Linda Callihan

Mom had her stitches removed and a good report from the oncology surgeon at MDA. The not so good side was this type of cancer is aggressive as it spreads like a virus. It can reappear anywhere in her body. Because of this, she will need 25 radiation treatments. We are working to schedule when the treatments will begin. Again, we appreciate all the prayers and support. – Robbie Lynn

 

 

Amber Prine Regan

Amber is a daughter, a wife, a mother, and a teacher as are some other members of her family.  Many of you will recognize the Prine name from her Osyka relatives.  She had a reoccurrence of cancer and will have a ten hour surgery at MD Anderson today.

Ann Hyde Ballard

February 11, 1933 – July 17, 2018

A resident of Roseland passed away on Tuesday, July 17, 2018 at her home surrounded by her loving family and friends. She was born February 11, 1933 in Chesbrough and was 85 years of age.

Ann was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend to all she knew. She began her career as a nurse and later went on to own and manage numerous family businesses.

She is survived by her daughter, Renee Ballard Durio and husband, Russell; 2 sons, Jimmy Ballard and wife, Aimee, and Freddie Carl Ballard and wife, Pearl; 12 grandchildren, Rachel Ballard, Robert Ballard, Leslie Cuti, Trenton Ballard, Jennifer Davenport, Keri Thornton, Bryan Saint, James Ballard, Josh Ballard, Logan Ballard, Baylor Blanchard, and Emilee Edwards; 14 great-grandchildren; brother, Bill Hyde and wife, Mary; sister-in-law, Sally Higgins.

Preceded in death by husband, Freddie Ballard; parents, Charles and Ethel Hyde; 2 sisters, Rita Lea and Elizabeth Stevens; 2 brothers, Charles and Johnny Hyde.

Update on Buddy Morris (Caring Bridge)

Chemo round 1…Done ✅

Chemo round 1 is done.  Last week Daddy got chemo 3 days in a row, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.  Thankfully he has had no side effects from it yet.  In fact on Wednesday he seemed to have more energy and was very talkative.  The nurse told us on Thursday that there were steroids in the first day medication.  Regardless it was a welcomed change and we all enjoyed the afternoon.  After the second and third day he did not have the burst of energy, but he had no complaints.

He does not complain of being in as much pain now, and we are thankful for that.  He is having a little trouble walking because of his leg that is swollen.  The swelling in his leg did seem to improve after chemo but has not gone away completely.

We plan to enjoy the next two weeks with only one doctor appointment and weekly blood work.  The second round of chemo is scheduled for August 1,2,3.  This is what we know for sure.  We have learned that things can change quickly.  For now the plan is for him to have another scan after the second round of chemo and see how the chemo is working.  We will have an appointment with Dr. Rameriz (the neuroendocrine specialist) after the scan to determine the next steps.

We cannot thank you enough for all of your prayers.  Please continue, and join us in thanking God for the good days that he is having.

November 29, 1946 – July 14, 2018

Rebecca Kay Forman, a resident of Kentwood, passed away on Saturday, July 14, 2018 at Kentwood Manor Nursing Home. She was born November 29,1946 in Hattiesburg, MS and was 71 years of age. She worked as a bookkeeper for Garner Trucking and was a member of First Baptist Church of Kentwood. She is survived by her brother, Bill Prine (Jeanette), Clarksville, TN; sister, Rena Prine Bufkin (Jimmie), Wesson, MS and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her husband, Noel Forman; son, Shannon Forman and her parents, Wesley and Lorena Prine. Monday’s WMU Report

I have to tell you God blessed us so much at the WMU meeting this morning. For the first time ever, I chose not to invite a speaker, but to let our ladies show some of their mission projects. Wow! The ladies did a wonderful job bringing in lots of crafts to share and lots of items to give away.

We had a number of first-time ladies today. I wish I had a good count, but I don’t. Trust me, many of those ladies who came for the first time will be back for our next meeting in September.

We sang Christmas carols today. I never would had come up with that idea, but Judy Noonan did. It was wonderful!
We had an opportunity to look around at all the items the ladies are working on for various mission projects. Ladies were taking notes and taking pictures so they can reproduce some of what they saw.

Two ladies who gave testimonies showed up without my knowledge. One was Linda Graves of East Fork. In her testimony she share about spending time in a hospice facility where she was expected to die. Instead, she walked out to live to do more ministry. This included singing for us again. She received a standing ovation.

Another lady shared that she had cancer again. Her ministry is to make quilts for cancer patients with the help of some volunteers and donations that are sometimes given. She offered her beautiful quits to us today to share with others who are dealing with cancer. Ladies from different churches walked out of the meeting today with those wonderful quilts. All the lady asked for was a picture for her to keep. May each quilt bring comfort to a cancer patient. May we repay her with our donations!

We shared information about bowl and spoons for shoeboxes, “witness” rocks to leave anywhere, bandana dresses, t-shirt jump ropes, felt tic-tac-toe boards, and MANY other ideas we are using to minister to others.

Mallory Hatchel, a MK from Prague, gave a family update. Meg Stevens shared a devotional and led us in praying for missionaries who have birthdays today.

Ladies brought many dishes of wonderful food. I heard more than once, how the ladies really did know how to cook.

Back to the main point, I chose not to invite a speaker for today’s meeting. God chose to send us two very special ladies. We all shared our love for God and our desire to help fulfill Matthew 28. May we live our lives studying about, praying for, and doing missions. If we don’t, ….?

Lewiston and Hillsdale have VBS this week.  Pray all goes smoothly and that many boys and girls will have the opportunity to attend this week.  Roseland’s VBS will be the last week of the month.

 

 

 

The WMU “Show and Tell” about mission crafts will be this morning at SCBC.  The meeting begins at 10 and ends with a covered dish meal.

Robbie  Lynn C. Kirby sent me this update on her mom, Linda Callihan.  She also posted it.  I’ll share for those who may not have seen it.
Mom has been healing and resting. The hardest part has been finding how to function while taking it slow. Those who know mom can chuckle at this. We have learned that after care is better by comparing week by week and not day by day. We are preparing for the next step of care per MD Anderson and radiation. The prayers, meals, donations, and other support has been amazing. Thank you.

Reminders

  • Today is the day to announce the WMU “Show and Tell” meeting at Spring Creek Baptist Church tomorrow at 10 A.M.  We will all learn more about how we can be hands-on with our mission activities.  There will be crafts that everyone is capable of doing.  Come find the ones you want to do for missions.  The meeting will be followed by a covered dish lunch.
  • Saturday, we will have another project day for missions from nine to noon.  At the end of the meeting, you will be about to get a “shoebox” and get five items my out “stash”, including some of the items we have crafted on our project days.  You may want to bring some of the following items: medium size rocks to paint, clean, used t-shirts, highlighters, pony beads, hotel soaps, scissors, and pens.
  • The following Tuesday, July 24th, we will have out monthly “Young” Ladies’ Birthday Party at The Cafe.  Ladies being honored this month are Bobbie Magee,Barbara Erwin, Janice Hornsby, Martha  Griffith, Debbie Bales, and Anne Hurst.  Please make a special effort to contact some ladies to remind them of our gathering.
  • The children who meet for missions on Wednesday nights are spending July doing mission projects.  They are enthusiastic about missions and about making things to share.  We meet at 6 P.M.  This Wednesday, they are encouraged to bring rocks which they will paint for a local mission project.

Elizabeth Faye Bennett, a resident of Kentwood, passed away on Tuesday, July 10, 2018 at The Carpenter House in Baton Rouge. She was born February 9, 1939 in New Orleans and was 79 years of age. She was an active member of Pine Ridge United Methodist Church. She was a loving mother and grandmother and enjoyed taking care of her family. She is survived by her two daughters, Karen Sue Corrick and husband, Scott, Pride, and Jennifer Bennett Wolford and husband, John, Powhatan, VA; son, Greg Bennett and wife, Emily, Brookhaven, MS; 8 grandchildren and her great granddaughter. Eddie Clayton Welch (1932 – 2018)

Eddie Clayton Welch, 86, of Kentwood, passed away, Tuesday , July 10, 2018 at St. Helena Parish Hospital in Greensburg, LA. He was born January 8, 1932 in Gillsburg, MS. He was the son of Eddie and Olevia Frazier Welch. He was a retired forester beginning his career with Crown Zellerbach. He was a proud U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. Mr. Eddie enjoyed gardening and working with honey bees. His favorite pastime was riding and sightseeing, riding his golf cart in the woods and was a devoted country music fan. He is preceded in death by his parents; one brother, E.H. Welch of Kentwood; three sisters, Willie Murl Welch, Dorothy Nell Welch Connelly and Joyce Welch who passed away as an infant. He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Wilma Cutrer Smith Welch of Kentwood: his children, Bonnie Welch Sonnier of Pride, Debbie Welch Marionneaux of Lutcher, Edward W. Welch of Denham Springs, Liz Welch Smith and husband, Lonny Smith of Lottie and Wayne Smith and wife, Margaret Smith of Liberty, MS; two brothers and their spouses, James and Murline Welch and Walter and Ella Welch all of Greensburg; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, cousins and nieces and nephews. The next WMU meeting which will be about missions opportunities and crafting for missions. We will meet on Monday, July 16th, at Spring Creek Baptist Church at 10 A.M.  followed by a covered dish meal.  Bring someone with you. Bring samples of mission crafting you have done or plan to do. The can be for OCC Shoeboxes, mission trips, neighborhood missions, etc. The point is we can all learn from a good show-and-tell for missions. See you on the 16th.

Our mission team of 35 who were in Haiti made it to New Orleans about 1:30 this morning.  Thank God for watching over them.  The five Hammond people from The Mission Church hope to leave Haiti today.  Pray for them to be able to travel safely too.

 

 

Debbie Bales had a heart test that showed good results.  Not only was she at peace during the testing, but she was able to help calm another lady who was stressed out about having a nuclear stress test.  Debbie says thanks to all who prayed for her.

 

 

Please continue to pray for Bro. Darryl and his family as they deal with sick and aging parents.   I miss seeing his parents at church.

 

 

Yvonne Birch called yesterday to ask me to add her name to the prayer list.  She learned she will have five by-passes next Wednesday, the 18th.  She asks for your prayers.  As you pray for her peace during this time, please also pray for Dr. Breaux and other medical staff who will be working with her at Lakeview Hospital in Covington.

Pray for the children from FBC, K as they complete camp and return home.  I think they will get back about 2 P.M.  Pray that lives were changed during this time.

 

 

Despite our VBS always being the first week of June, many other churches are having their VBS now.  Pray young lives are touched by the various VBS opportunities.

  • July 16 – WMU at SCBC (Show and tell for crafting for missions)
  • July 21 – Mission Project Day at FBC from 9:00 to noon
  • July 24 – “Young” Ladies’ Birthday Party at The Cafe at 11 A.M.

 

 

The new college & career age Sunday School class is meeting in the house across the street from the FBC fellowship hall at 9:15 each Sunday.

 

 

Today, I will be at the church working on mission projects.  If you wish to join me call me early this morning or come to the church when you can.

 

 

The Children in Action class will meet at 6 P.M. tonight and will work on some fun mission projects to share with others.  Come join the fun as we learn by doing.

 

 

Pray for missionaries around the world as they serve to tell others about Jesus.

 

 

Pray for out Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes.  Once again, yesterday, I had the opportunity to tell a store clerk about OCC.  They just have to ask how I am using all the things I get to purchase.  I, like some of you, cannot let the opportunity pass without sharing about this wonderful ministry.  I get to inform children about Jesus and inform clerks about the OCC ministry at the same time.
