Pray for Rene’ Terrell as she has back surgery today.  Pray her surgery goes well and the recovery period is limited.

Bill Pope from Amite will again be having surgery.  If they can remove all the cancer, he will be back at home tonight.

 

 

Pray for people who are dealing with the loss of a loved one during this holiday season.  The first Christmas can be especially difficult.  Help your friends and families as they go through some difficult days.

 

 

Churches will be celebration the birth of Jesus in various ways.  Stay alert so you won’t miss an event at a local church that will add to the spirit of the season.

 

 

East Fork Baptist Church will be open Saturday after eight so you may go and decorate tables you have signed up to decorate for the Lottie Moon Tea.  Thanks to all the ladies from various churches who will be decorating each table.  Thanks to East Fork for volunteering to host the meeting this year.

Many people will be traveling at the end of their Thanksgiving holidays.  Pray for safety and happy traveling with lots of new memories.  Personally, we have a son and his family driving home to Rome, GA. now and a granddaughter who will fly to Texas in the morning.  Everyone can add to this list the names of others who are traveling.

 

 

Today, I want to share four deaths with you so you can pray for the families.

  1. Mr. Elwood Courtney (98) of Holden

    passed away yesterday morning.  His arrangements are for Sunday night and Monday at Brandon Thompson Funeral Home in Hammond.  His obituary is not on their website yet.  Mr. Elwood was the father of David’s sister-in-law, Janie Alford.

  2. Wendell Travis Vernon

    September 12, 1941 – November 22, 2018

    Passed in peace Wendell Travis Vernon, age 77, went to be with the Lord on November 22, 2018. He was born on September 12, 1941 in Loranger, LA. The son of Albert and Ethel Vernon, who preceded him in death. He graduated from Loranger High School then proudly enlisted in the US Air Force shortly after, where he spent 7 years as an E5 Staff Sergeant. He was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Dorothy Mae Robertson Vernon, on November 9, 1957 until she was called home on April 12, 1993. He was the loving father of their two daughters, his daughter, Wendy Holter, preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Debbie Vernon; daughter, Cindy Wood and husband, Kimmy; granddaughters, Heather Blackwell-LaBure and April Usie; grandsons, David Holter and Travis Holter; and 5 great grandchildren. Wendell loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed cooking, gardening, and teaching them how to keep a perfectly manicured yard! He is loved and will be dearly missed by all his family and friends. Graveside Services will be held at Loranger Community Cemetery, Loranger, LA at 11:00AM Saturday, November 24, 2018.     June 06, 1943 – November 22, 2018

    A resident of Kentwood, LA, passed away on Thursday, November 22, 2018 at home. He was born June 16, 1943 in New Orleans, LA and was 75 years of age. Hannah S. Schwartz

December 26, 1917 – November 23, 2018
A resident of Kentwood, LA, passed away on Friday, November 23, 2018 at her home. She was born December 26, 1917 in Englewood, NJ and was 100 years of age. She was a U.S. Navy nurse during World War II and was a retired public health nurse. She was a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Kentwood. She is survived by 4 children, Charles E. Schwartz and wife, Kim, Kentwood, Richard A. Schwartz, Kentwood, Cathy Schwartz McGowan and husband, Billy, Covington and Hannah Irene Schwartz, Metairie;  grandchildren, Stacey Schwartz Smith and husband, Ed, Catherine Schwartz Doyle and husband, Jeff, Jana Schwartz Hughes and husband, Chris, Melissa Schwartz, Kelly Schwartz, and Kimberly Schwartz; great grandchildren, Christina Smith, Ray Smith, Trent Smith, Ella Doyle, Addison Doyle, Luke Hughes, George Hughes and Maggie Hughes. Mission Opportunities

  1. Stamped Christmas cards will be collected the first Sunday of December and delivered that week to prisoners in the Tangipahoa Parish jail.
  2. Gift cards are being collected for an Louisiana College student who received a partial scholarship from ladies of Two Rivers.  We want to send this before Christmas, so get those cards in soon.
  3. The Lottie Moon Tea will help the first Sunday at 2 P.M.  at East Fork Baptist Church.  Be sure this is on your calendar.
  4. The Children in Action will continue to meet on Wednesday nights at 6 P.M. and Youth on Mission on Sundays at 5 P.M. unless there are no church activities that night.

Danny Farris is recovering from rib surgery.  He is not up to company yet.  Hopefully, he won’t need hip surgery, but is up for whatever come.  As you pray for Danny, please also pray for Joanne.

 

 

The Two Rivers WMU will meet this morning at Kedron for the World Day of Prayer.  It will be a good meeting. FBC, Amite will be in charge of the program because Cora Morris is not up to it this year.  Meet at ten.  Share a meal before you leave.

 

 

 

The Two Rivers WMU is again participating in collecting stamped, religious, Christmas cards.  Bring your cards with the stamps affized to the envelopes to the Lottie Moon Tea the first Sunday of December.

Phillip Strickland‘s surgery went well yesterday.  Please continue to pray for him.

 

 

Pete Gill has pneumonia and is at North Oaks.  Yesterday, a lung biopsy was done.  If all goes well, he should be able to come home in a day or two.  Please keep Pete and his family in your prayers.

 

 

Betty Taylor’s Update/Request

Thursday I have my second cataract surgery on my other eye I had one on one I last Thursday. So please say a prayer for me. The prayers last week was much appreciated. Thank you and God bless.

A resident of Kentwood passed away on Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at Tangi Pines Nursing Center in Amite. He was born January 26, 1933 in Kentwood and was 85 years of age. He was a U. S. Navy Veteran of the Korean War and a retired operator for Plantation Pipe Line. He is survived by his 2 sons, Douglas Prescott and wife, Cheryl, and Clinton Prescott; 9 grandchildren, Elisha Mayberry, Jamie Prescott, Will Prescott and wife, Angie, Mike Prescott, Whitney Prescott, Brittney Prescott, Sarah Prescott, Morgan Austin, and Wesley Austin; 10 great-grandchildren; brother, Jack “Boots” Prescott and wife, Mary. Preceded in death by his wife, Mary Kent Owen Prescott; son, Fredric L. Prescott, Jr.; brother, Richard “Dickie” Prescott. Amber Prine Ragan “We’re In This Together”

Amber and I spent the full day at MD Anderson on Wednesday. This was her 3 week follow-up visit after radiation treatment. She had a pulmonary function test, blood work, and a MRI done before we met with Dr. DeGroot in the afternoon. He said that everything looked good and the treatment plan is going accordingly. He has agreed to let Dr. Olsen in Baton Rouge manage her chemo treatments. However, he still wants her to return back to MDA for routine MRIs and bloodwork during the time she will be on chemo. That will be every six weeks for 8-9 months. We were in hopes that he would release Amber completely, but we are grateful for the positive results. We completely trust Dr. DeGroot’s decision and it comforts us to know that he will be monitoring her scans and blood levels during treatment.
Amber will meet with Dr. Olsen this afternoon at the Neuro Medical Center in Baton Rouge to get the next step in her treatment journey started. The chemo treatment is called PCV. It is a combination of 2 oral medications along with infusions. The chemo regimen will consist of 6 cycles (42 days for each cycle). After each cycle, she will return back to MD Anderson for routine assessments and to meet with Dr. DeGroot.
We were able to view yesterday’s MRI along with a MRI that was done before surgery. It was very visible to see the amount of the tumor that was extracted during surgery. We’ve been looking forward to seeing the comparison in the scans.
Once again, thank you for all your prayers and support. Amber continues to amaze all of us with her strength and positive attitude. She returned back to work the week after radiation ended. She is back to a normal life and is rocking her “punk” hairstyle!

Maddie’s Miracles
Maddie and Nana had a long quiet day. Maddie slept most of the day. They still have no idea what’s going on. Blood pressure has been a little low said she maybe dehydrated. We are so thankful Nana was able to come stay with her so we can work this week. She is one of our greatest blessings. We will just wait and see what tomorrow brings. They will not let her eat because she gets so sick when she does. She’s not hungry anyway so that is also a blessing. Remember blessings are always around no matter your circumstance! God is so very good ALL the time!
Brian Tate starts round three of his treatments at M.D. Anderson today.   Pray all goes well for him as he has these treatments.
Mrs. Bessie Hayden has been moved from OLOL to North Oaks Rehab.   I’m sure she is happy to be closer to Kentwood.  Check on visiting hours before you make a visit with her.

Obituary for Orin Patterson

Orin Patterson, age 19, of 343 Chestnut Ridge Road, passed away on Friday, October 19, 2018.

Born in Greenwood, he was a son of Mike and Beth Council Patterson. Orin was a 2018 graduate of Laurens District 55 High School and was a freshman at Clemson University. He was a member of Chestnut Ridge Baptist Church. Orin was adventurous and an avid outdoorsman, who had many interests including blacksmithing, playing piano, and free-diving.

Surviving in addition to his parents are his three siblings, Hope Patterson, Cade Patterson, and Quin Patterson; paternal grandmother, Jean Patterson; maternal grandparents, Earl and Nadine Council; and a host of loving and supportive extended family members and friends.

Orin was predeceased by his paternal grandfather, John R. Patterson.

A Celebration of Orin’s Life will be held at 4:30 pm on Thursday, October 25, 2018, at Chestnut Ridge Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Alex D. Henderson. The family will host a gathering in the church fellowship hall immediately following the celebration service.

Operation Christmas Child – I plan to be at FBC, Kentwood at 1:30 this afternoon if anyone wants to help me work with the “shoeboxes” today.  I plan to be there again in the morning at 9:00 to work some more.  I plan to have a good count of shoeboxes for Sunday.  Collection week is November 12 – 19 this year.  I’ll have a sign-up schedule for those who want to help then at church Sunday.

 

 

The Youth on Mission class has learned how to tell their first Bible story.  They will not meet this Sunday due to Trunk or Treat, but the following week they will begin work on learning their second Bible story.  It’s never too late to learn to share God’s Word.

Jimmy Tolar is home.  Thank God for his faithful caregiver, his wife Naomi Tolar.  Pray for other caregivers, who gladly put their lives “on hold” to care to someone else.

  • Mr. Cete Dillon who has cared for “Miss” Ruby for a long time and continues to do so daily..
  • The list is long.  Think of some caregivers and pray for them.

 

 

Some people have unique ways to see needs and meet them.  What a blessing people can be to others when they are willing to give of themselves!

George “Jerome” Wayne, a resident of Amite, passed away on Monday, October 15, 2018 at Lakeview Regional Medical Center in Covington. He was born October 24, 1943 and was 74 years of age. He was a beautiful person with a compassionate heart for and genuine interest in people and also had a special love for animals. His joy was playing jazz piano, flying ultralight planes, driving European cars, and even had a brief stint riding motorcycles. He was a gifted listener, wise counselor, and very easy to be with. He will be missed greatly. He is survived by his son, Michael Wayne; daughter, Rebecca Wayne Rogers and husband, J.D.; grandson, Hiett Wayne Rogers; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Preceded in death by parents, Clifford and Zuleima Wayne; first wife, Peggy Jo Wright Wayne; second wife, Anne Gayle Lehmann; grandson, Holden Wayne Rogers; 2 brothers, William Clifford Wayne and John Gordon Wayne. Mr. Jimmy Tolar is home now after five long and difficult weeks in the hospital.  Thank God for this good report.

 

 

Robbie Lynn Kirby broke her arm.  Pray for healing and comfort during the healing.

 

 

Colleen Strickland is improving, but prayers are still needed.  She is at Hood Memorial.

 

 

Phillip Strickland also needs prayers,  Please continue to pray for this young man and his family.

 

 

Frances Gay got a good report this week.  Thank God for that.  Pray for her as she goes through six months until  the next check-up.

 

 

Pray for Andy and Betty Taylor.  She will have cataract surgery on her eyes in the coming weeks.  Andy will be searching for a new doctor because his doctor is leaving McComb.

 

 

Pray for Buddy and Eleanor Morris.  He had to get two unit of blood yesterday.  She is working to schedule hip surgery.

I missed the WMU meeting at my own church yesterday.  I don’t have any details yet, but I have heard the meeting was a success.  I’m anxious to learn what I missed.  The next WMU meeting will be early in November at Kedron with Amite leading our attention to the World Day of Prayer.  I hope you can attend and pray with women from around the world that day.

 

 

My daughter-in-law brought me a hymnal being discarded from her church.  I am anxious to spend some time at the piano with it.  I see songs I haven’t sung in a long time and new songs I want to learn about.  When I opened it just now, it opened to “I’d Rather Have Jesus”, an oldie I have loved for years.

Isn’t that the way God works?  He took one man”s plan for this song and used it to change him, even more than the man’s son.  I know God used the song and the man to change many a person for the Lord!  I hope you find time to hear George Beverly Shea sing the song, as only he could.  Focus on how God wants to change you and how God has used the man and the song to change many people throughout the world.
