We met at the cabin last night and had six first-time guests with our guests from eight different churches. It was another meaningful night for us. Those of you who came really blessed our hearts. We’ll be looking forward to the next gatherings which will be on December 21st.

Flora Elaine Blades Williams

December 28, 1926 – November 15, 2017

Flora Elaine (Blades) Williams was born on December 28, 1926 and passed away Thursday, November 15, 2017 at North Oaks Hospital. She was a native of Spring Creek Community. She was a retired business teacher with 37 year of service. She taught at Spring Creek High School for 34 years and at Jewel M. Sumner High School for 3 years. She received her BA Degree from Southeastern Louisiana College in 1947. She received her Master of Education Degree in Administration and Supervision from SLU in 1964. While teaching, she belonged to the following organizations: National Education Association (Lifetime Member), NBEA, SBEA and LBEA. After retiring, she became a lifetime member of Louisiana Retired Teachers’ Association and Tangipahoa Parish Retired Teachers Association. She was also a member of the Spring Creek Baptist Church and Walter T. Ott, No. 217 Order of the Eastern Star for 50 years. She is survived by her three children, Jimmy Lynn Williams and wife, Mille, Vickie Gwen Williams Gill and husband, Doug and Sonya Wynne Williams Newman and husband, Karl. Also, she is survived by seven grandsons, Jeremy, Jacob and Jesse Williams, James and Matthew Neyland, and Colby and Asa Newman; ten great grandchildren, Joanna, Emmett, Rue, Noah, Chloe, Holden and Foster Williams, and Mason, Liam, and Aiden Neyland. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Cade Drue Williams; parents, Lynn Elias Blades and Otera Thelma Pierce Blades; three brothers, James Dalton, Winfred Alva and Bobby Lynn Blades and one infant grandson, Gabriel John Newman. A resident of Hammond passed away on Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at North Oaks Medical Center in Hammond. She was born November 15, 1940 in Hillsdale and was 77 years of age. She is survived by 2 daughters, Melissa P. Harrison and Pamela Lynn Parsons; 3 grandchildren, Emily Margaret Harrison, James Elliot Harrison, and William Connor Harrison; twin sister, Nancy Adell Chapman Bartholomew. Preceded in death by parents, Amos Kent Chapman and Emma Brumfield Chapman; siblings, Sybil Courtney, Shelton K. Chapman, and Quincy M. Chapman. Ora Lee Wilson’s nephew, 50, who had two heart attacks is better and stable. Thank you for your prayers for him.

Michelle L. Murphy and Ferrie Gene Blackmon both are facing surgery soon. Pray for them.

Andy Taylor was able to be back at church last night. Please continue to keep his foot problem in your prayers.

The Operation Christmas Child Drop-Off Location at FBC, Kentwood is looking forward to receiving lots of shoeboxes today that were packed at churches last night. Each box is special to those who collected items and packed the box, but much more important to the child and family that receives the box. The drop-off sites will be open daily through Monday. The site in Kentwood will be open 10 – 12 noon today, Thursday, and 4-6 P.M. Friday.

Churches that are a part of Two Rivers Association are collecting STAMPED, RELIGIOUS Christmas cards until December 3rd. Then, they will be taken to the local parish jails in Amite and Greensburg and given to prisoners so they can send messages to family members.

Friday Morning Bible Study will meet tomorrow at 10 A.M. and continue the study of Ezekiel.

Plans for the Lottie Moon Christmas Tea for churches in our area are progressing. It will be December 3rd at 2 P.M. at FBC, Kentwood. Children will be singing Christmas songs for us. Ladies will be decorating tables with their personal sets of dishes. It will be beautiful and meaningful.

The children in the missions class of FBC, Kentwood were able to hear the first part of the story of the early years of Lottie Moon’s life last night. They will hear more next week. Hopefully, as they grow they will remember her story and how important international missions are.

TONIGHT, we will meet at the cabin at 6:30. I’m looking forward to seeing many of you. We will add a talented musician, Kaye Roberts. She will be playing some piano offertories for us. Join us and be blessed.

Tuesday, November 28th, the “young” ladies of out church will gather at The Cafe at 11 A.M. to honor ladies with November birthdays. Feel free to join us.

DR. JERRY N. BARLOW, AGE 72

And a resident of Covington went to be with the Lord on Saturday night November 11, 2017 at St. Tammany Parish Hospital. He was born on June 13, 1945 in Petal, MS and graduated from Petal High School before studying chemistry at William Carey College. During his time there, Jerry was selected to work at the Oak Ridge nuclear power plant in Tennessee, an honor he was always very proud of. Jerry joined the United States Navy and served during the Vietnam Era. Upon returning, he surrendered to the ministry which would remain his devotion for the next 40 years. Jerry graduated from the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and after short tenures at various churches his family moved to Franklinton, where he served at First Baptist Church from 1981 until 1996. He always had a desire to be a church pastor as well as being a teacher so he returned to NOBTS and began serving in that ministry that continued until his passing. Jerry taught in the Leavell College, as well as the Master’s Program and also served as Dean of the Graduate Studies Program. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and the outdoors. Jerry cherished the time spent with his family and adored his young grandchildren. He had a saying “I’m gonna live until I die, and I’m gonna serve the Lord until I die”, and he most certainly did.

A memorial service for family and friends will be held Thursday November 16th at First Baptist Church of Covington (16333 Hwy. 1085, Covington, LA 70433). Visitation will be from 2 pm until the time of the service at 4 pm with Dr. Waylon Bailey, Rev. David Rockett, Dr. Charles Kelley, and Dr. Larry Barlow officiating. A family graveside service and burial will take place in Hillcrest Cemetery in Petal, MS on Friday with Rev. Grant Stegall officiating.

Dr. Jerry Barlow of NOBTS and a former pastor at FBC, Amie, passed away. I will post an obituary when one becomes available.

Johnny Belgard is having some health issues again. Let’s pray his problem is not related to his transplant.

Ora Lee Wilson told me her 50 year old nephew has had two heart attacks and is in Our Lady of the Lake. Let’s pray for him and the family.

FBC, Kentwood opens as a drop-off location for “shoeboxes” today. Monday, we will be open from 10:00 – !2 Noon. Tomorrow’s schedule is 1:00 – 4:00 P.M. Fillers will be accepted along with the shoeboxes. “Fillers” are extra items you didn’t use this year. They can be sent in with the shoeboxes and used to add to boxes that are not full. If you have and items to share, be sure to put them in a cardboard box and clearly label them as fillers. I understand they are very helpful and usually in short supply. I will be sending in fillers for the first time this year.

We saw Beth Brabham Thursday. She had problems last weekend and had to return to the doctor to Monday. This added several more weeks to her recovery. Pray for her to feel better soon.

We saw the Harrells yesterday. Mr. Phillip and “Miss” Annie Bell both look good and seemed to enjoy our visit. We certainly did enjoy seeing them.

Mrs. Anne Hurst is better and is able to get out and about again.

Phil Connelly is recovering and is back at work in a limited way.

Mrs. Mildred Birch is wearing a back brace. This seems like all the doctors can do for her. The back problem and brace are not slowing her down very much. Pray for this lady as she “keeps on keeping on”!

Operation Christmas Child Drop-off Week begins Monday. FBC, Kentwood is a drop-off location again this year. Monday, our hours will be 10:00 – 12:00. Sue Connelly is my co-coordinator. One, if not both, of us will be present each day. Volunteers are needed to help pack the big boxes. If you have not already done so, please sign up to help. The sign-up list is on the table under the balcony stairwell.

Ladies and girls, be sure your calendar is marked for the Lottie Moon Christmas Tea which will be at FBC, Kentwood. It will begin at 2 P.M. We will serve Lottie Moon tea cakes, tea of various flavors, lots of finger foods, and lemonade. The tables in the fellowship hall will be decorated by ladies from various churches in the association. Children from different churches will sing. Both girls and teens will be serving us. Rachel Robbins, a former missionary, will be our guest speaker. You don’t want to miss this special event!

Stamped Christmas cards can be turned in at the Tea. The cards will be given to the inmates at both St. Helena and Tangipahoa jails. Be sure you purchase religious cards to help share the Good-News to the inmates and their families.

Third Thursday at the Cabin will be next week. We meet at 6:30. Ya’ll come!

Mrs. Juanita Pritchett has a pacemaker and is back at home. I forgot to share this update from Chester earlier, but it is never too late to thank God.

Mrs. Ruby Dillon seems to have had a “bug” for a couple days, but is over it and feeling better. Pray for her to continue to gain her strength.

Gabriel Estay had knee surgery yesterday in Baton Rouge. All went well. Pray for him during the long recovery period.

James Kenneth Allen

December 13, 1935 – November 08, 2017

A resident of Kentwood passed away on Wednesday, November 8, 2017 at Richard Murphy Hospice House in Hammond. He was born December 13, 1935 in Kentwood and was 81 years of age. He had a full and long life and enjoyed every day of it. He was co-owner and operator of Kentwood Farm Center. Also, he was a City Councilman and Alderman for the Town of Kentwood for many years. He is survived by his wife, Hazel Lee Allen; 2 sons, David Young Allen and James Allen, Jr.; 6 grandchildren, Eli Allen and wife, Marla, Savana Allen, Jordan Allen, Stephen Allen, Katie Allen, and Landon Allen; brother, Keith Allen; sister, Dorothy Gill and husband, Billy; and sister in law, Rosalie Wheeler. Preceded in death by his parents, J. Y. and Mamie Allen. Visitation at First Baptist Church of Kentwood from 9 a.m. until religious services at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 11, 2017. Also, Mrs. Ruth Lea Robinson of Gonzales passed away this morning. Our daughter-in-law, Becki, is a granddaughter. “Mimi” was a very special lady and had numerous Kentwood Lea relatives. A memorial service will be Sunday, November 19th in Gonzales. Becki’s dad was especially close to her. No obituary is available at this time.

Jeanne Bond Tate has a request for her brother-in-law.

Tonight I’m writing to ask prayer for a person that many of you know, love and respect. My sister Denise asked me to ask you all to pray for her husband, Clark Wilson. It seems the chemo isn’t working and the possibility of bone marrow transplant is out. The cancer has also spread. He has been and is still in a lot of pain. I know the thing they would want more than anything is prayer… fervent prayer. For those of you who don’t know them, Clark and Denise have 9 children, and a son and daughter in-law, with another son engaged. And their first sweet grandbaby on the way. ❤ Please pray specifically that God will give peace, wisdom, healing and provision through all of this. It feels surreal and even scary at times, but it should drive us to pray more fervently for them. Thank you all. Please tag any friends who you know would pray in the comments to get more prayers going up for Clark and his family. Gladys Montez Kliesch

March 14, 1944 – November 06, 2017

Gladys Montez Jackson Kliesch, 73, a resident of Kentwood, LA, passed away November 6, 2017 at her residence.

Visitation will be Friday, November 10, 2017 from 9 AM until services at 11 AM at the East Fork Baptist Church in Kentwood, LA. Rev. Gibbie McMillan and Rev. Ernest Graham will officiate and burial will be in Osyka Cemetery.

Gladys was born March 14, 1944 in Winston County, MS to the late, Joe Howard and Minnie Lawson Reed.

She was a Member of East Fork Baptist Church in Kentwood and retired as an LPN for the Southwest Regional Medical Center in McComb after 34 years of service. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and enjoyed reading her bible. She will be sadly missed by those who knew and loved her.

She is preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Joseph Howard Jackson and Charles Aaron Jackson and one brother, Joe Ed Reed.

She is survived by her husband, Ivan Dwight Kliesch, one son, Frank Anthony Jackson (Elizabeth Cadell), three brothers, David Reed, Gerald Reed and Joel Reed; one sister, Juanita Reed, one granddaughter, Cora Lee Jackson, close family friend, Keith Kliesch with numerous nieces and nephews.
