Dear Ones,

On June 27th and 28th I attended a conference in Atlanta called Deeper Still. I was one of three speakers the others being Kay Arthur and Priscilla Shirer. I looked forward to a special time of worship and having God convict me of my sins and lead me to areas in my life where I need to change. I have been to similar conferences for years, although none this large and with so many well-known speakers. There were over 20,000 women in attendance at the Phillips Arena in Atlanta – they said it was the largest crowd ever.

I had an idea of what to expect from the conference, but nothing prepared me for what actually happened. I feel led to share my experience with family and friends. This is important, so stay with me!

When Kay Arthur took the stage you could just tell that her spirit was heavy and there was a certain ‘heaviness’ in the atmosphere even before she started to speak. She said that she had been literally physically sick to have to bring us this message and right out the gate she said, ‘We are in grave danger.’ She said that God had revealed to her that a literal famine is coming to America.. Physical, not spiritual. She said that God is moving in judgment against our nation. I know I can’t describe this well enough, but the atmosphere was om inous.

Kay is a seasoned speaker and she had to BATTLE to get through her message. She stumbled over scriptures and had an extremely difficult time. At times I was almost expecting her to collapse. At one point she just had to stop and pray. There was no person, myself included, that I could see who did not have tears streaming down their faces. As you may know, Kay Arthur is normally a very confident, composed speaker, but she was literally in a spiritual battle and it was taking place right before my eyes. I have never seen anything like it.

She went on to give 7 things that Christians must do during this time and I am going to give those to you now:

1. Return to God. Jeremiah 4:3 – Break up the fallow ground – return to Me. Repent. Get on your face before God and ask him to break your heart with the things that break His heart.

2. Mourn. Jeremiah 9:17-18 and Ezekiel 9 – It is time to weep because our

nation’s sin is incredible.

3. Pray. Jeremiah 36:7 – Pray fervently, passionately for America.

4. Love God’s Word. Jeremiah 20 – You MUST love the Word of God and be in the Word of God. I was particularly convicted here because I know I have not been as deeply in His Word as I need to be. She said we must get serious about this.
5. Love others as Jesus loved them. Jeremiah 31:3 and John 13:34.

6. Introduce people to Jesus Christ. It’s time to get serious about this. This is no time for timidity. Jeremiah 31:31; Jeremiah 33:1-9, 15, 17.

7. Rest. If you will do these things, then rest in the fact that you have done God’s will. She said that it is going to be vitally important for us to get enough physical rest. She went on to say that God has not given us a spirit of fear and that if we are obedient to Him, we will be protected. She said to read Ezekiel 14 over and over until you understand it. This is what God will do if a country turns against Him. She said that this is going to be a calamity (she used the word calamity in such a way that you knew this is going to be no small thing for our country), and gave many more scripture references, but what I have given you are the main points that s he made.

I hope you know that I would not have sent this to you if I had not been profoundly affected by it and feel it is of great importance to share it. Thank you for taking the time to read this and I hope you will do with this information what you feel led by God to do.

Continue to pray for Emily Panter in Texas and for her family and friends spread across the world.

Pray for Mr. Bud Callihan as he has surgery today. Pray he has a peace about the process. Remember his family during this time.

Continue to pray for Mr. James Lee Hutchinson. He said he was trying to do everything right so he could hurry and get out of the hospital.

Continue to pray for Freida Angeletti as she improves after the procedure that was done in Baltimore Monday. Pray she will soon be healthy enough to return to minister in Romania.

Pray for the Brown family and the Schillings family as they make funeral arrangements for their loved one today.

THE THINGS THAT HAPPEN!

Have you ever heard an unexpected sound in your house? Maybe a tree branch was scratching on the door or the wind made something slide across a table. A young family in South Asia was cleaning at their new home when they heard a noise. They looked around, listened, and put down the things in their hands—water and cookies—then went to another room. Not two minutes later, they heard the sound again. They just knew someone was in their apartment. They ran back to where they first heard the sound just in time to see a monkey. The monkey had come in through the balcony door. Now it was sitting out on the balcony, watching them, AND eating their cookies! The things that happen in South Asia!

Another time, the family and two other workers were driving down the road. Remember, this is South Asia. There was a cow in the middle of the road, and it would not budge. The father honked and honked at the thing, but it just sat there. One of the other workers got out of the car and went up to the cow. She prodded the cow until it slowly got up and moved out of the way. She got back in the car and said, “I’ve always wanted to do that.” The things that happen in South Asia are really pretty funny.

Thank God for people who are willing to live in a place where they see monkeys and cows almost every day. This young family has a little girl who will celebrate her first birthday this week. People in South Asia give sweets to their friends on their own birthdays, so this family is going to bake a huge batch of cookies. They are going to take some to all their neighbors in their new apartment building. Please pray that they will be able to make new friends and be able to tell the friends about Jesus’ love.

Maybe YOU could give your neighbors some sweets and tell them that Jesus loves them too!

Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers over the last few weeks. Mom (Judy Carruth) was laid to rest today surrounded by family and friends. Mrs. Ona M. Schillings was born on November 26, 1914 and passed away at 7:50PM, Thursday, October 30, 2008 at the Hood Memorial Hospital, Amite. Mrs. Ona was 93 and a resident of Kentwood.

Mr. Bud Callihan is in North Oaks to have surgery on a carotid artery tomorrow. He’s in room 4012. He was still in the admission process when we saw him and did not know anything about time for his surgery.

Mr. James Lee Hutchinson is in ICU, but doing better that he was yesterday. Pray for him as he gets the care he needs to get better. Remember “Miss” Barbara too.

Debbie Miller is progressing nicely. She will see her doctor again next week. Continue to keep her in your prayers.

David’s niece, Diana Newman Brown, passed away suddenly this afternoon. She was 55. Pray for her husband, Randy, daughter, Becky Stewart, granddaughter, Keely, parents, Harold and Bonnie Sue Newman, as well as other family members.

Mrs. Parmys Stegall is now in rehab in St. Tammany. Mr. Bob has postponed his eye surgery. Please keep both of them in your prayers.

THE VALUE IS IN THE OWNER

The story is told of an American tourist in Paris who picked up an amber necklace in a trinket shop. When he arrived at New York and went through customs he was shocked at the high duty he had to pay for the necklace. So when he came home, he spoke with a jeweler and the jeweler told him he would give $25,000 for the necklace. The man was stunned and suspected that there was a reason for the offer. So he took the necklace to an expert who appraised it at an astronomical amount.

When he asked the appraiser what made the necklace so valuable, he told him to look into the magnifying glass and see for himself. When he placed his eye next to the glass, he saw an inscription which read: “From Napoleon Bonaparte to Josephine.” It was the name on the necklace that gave it extraordinary worth.

We have no intrinsic value — that is to say, we are not of great value because of who we are or what we’ve accomplished. Our value is determined by the One who bought us and owns us. Those of us who are Christians have the name of Christ “stamped” on our lives to remind us who we are and whose we are. Knowledge of this truth causes us to rethink what we do with our lives.

For example, if you have an old pair of ragged tennis shoes, you may think nothing of getting out in a muddy garden to do some work. But if you’re wearing an expensive pair of dress shoes, you’ll be hesitant to wear them in the mud. The value of what you’re wearing will keep you from going certain places and doing certain things.

Paul says that’s why we as Christians should avoid sexual immorality (as well as other misuses of the body). If our bodies were of little value (as some believe), we would think nothing of “dragging them through the mud.” But knowing the value of our bodies, we’re forced to think twice about where we go and what we do.

“For your were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.” (I Cor. 6:20).

Look closely at the inscription on your life. You’ll notice the name of the One who bought you and owns you. Your value just went up!
