Pray for us as David has begun home health, sees this family practitioner today, and his nephrologist Friday. Than God for sending our daughter to us earlier than we expected. She has been a BIG help!

Yesterday, David saw a doctor who changed some of his medications because of problems David was experiencing. Next week, we will have doctor appointments on three or four days. Looking at that with a positive attitude, the different doctors get to evaluate him multiple times next week. Another good thing, is that some of these appointments are in Hammond, not Baton Rouge. David has been recommended for home health. It’s in the paperwork approval stage. Thanks for your continued prayers.

Bernice Martin Travis

March 24, 1926 – January 31, 2019

A resident of Kentwood, LA, passed away on Thursday, January 31, 2019 at St. Helena Parish Hospital in Greensburg, LA. She was born March 24, 1926 in St. Helena, LA and was 92 years of age. She was a retired LPN from LA War Veterans Home in Jackson, LA and also a retired dairy farmer. She is survived by 2 daughters, Faye Marcus and David, and Kathy Travis; Kim Richard and Ken; 1 son, Alan Travis and Avonia; 1 sister, Frances Robbins and Ronnie; 10 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren. Preceded in death by her husband Wilson Claude Travis; sister, Belle Felker; parents, Preston and Laura Martin. Visitation at First Baptist Church of Arcola from 9:00 a.m until religious services at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 4, 2019. Services conducted by Rev. Bob Simpson. Pray for David as we seek to see a doctor in Hammond today. David has had more company lately. He is certainly enjoying seeing his friends.

Julius Kent Raiford

September 28, 1930 – January 31, 2019

Julius Kent Raiford, age, 88 a native of Ponchatoula and long-time resident of Arcola died peacefully at home on January 31, 2019. He was a Korean War Veteran who served as a Corporal in the United States Army. He returned to Ponchatoula to become a strawberry farmer. After farming, he began working for the United States Department of Agriculture. Eventually, he became an investigator for enforcement of the Animal Welfare Act. In 1964, he married Floyce Bracey Houeye and they resided in Arcola where he enjoyed his hobby of raising produce. He was a loving husband and father. After 34 years of service, he retired in 1993 from the U.S.D.A. He enjoyed his hobbies and being an Elder in the Amite-Arcola Presbyterian Church. Floyce passed away in 2012. In 2016, he married Joyce Jenkins Doody, and they continued to reside in Arcola. He is preceded in death by his parents, Corrine and Carlos Raiford; 1 sister, 5 brothers, and his first wife. He is survived by his wife, Joyce Raiford; his daughter and son-in-law, Pamela and Simeon Bankston. He has 2 grandchildren and their families: Tiffany and Brad Currier and their children, Turner and Tate; Tabitha and Jesse Blades and their daughter, Halle. Also, step-children: Roger and Leigh Doody and their sons, Cameron and Connor; and Tracie and Robert Coon and their children, Caitlin, Mary Rogers, and Will. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and church family as he served as an Elder in the church for many years. The family would like to express our gratitude to his sitter, Gloria Williams, and New Century Hospice. Their excellent care and compassion during his final illness is greatly appreciated. Visitation will be at McKneely Funeral Home, Amite, from 9:00AM until religious services at 11:00AM on Saturday, February 2, 2019. Services conducted by Rev. Hawley Wolfe. Doris Hutchinson Travis

August 25, 1926 – January 30, 2019

A limb has fallen from our family tree. On the afternoon of January 30, 2019, our beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother was reunited with our heavenly father. She was 92 years old and a life long resident of the Pine Ridge Community in St. Helena Parish. She retired from the St. Helena Parish Health Unit with 40 years of service where she prided herself on helping many people in the community. Her love of family and friends brought much joy to her life. Nanny’s longevity could be attributed to her time shared with her children, grandchildren, and especially her great grandchildren. She was a true farmer’s wife, who loved all things on the farm, the rye grass and cows, her beautiful rose garden, and feeding the hummingbirds. She was a wonderful cook who shared many recipes, but her favorite was her “Nanny Cake”. Her legacy includes family functions, Easter Egg Hunts, seafood gumbo, pool parties, and dove hunts. She is survived by her children, Terry and Dell Travis, Betty and Lynn Day, and Marilyn Taylor; her grandchildren and spouses, Melissa Day, Travis Day, Ryan and Beth Travis, Anna Maria and Trey Bullinger, Courtney and Michael Passman, and Holly Travis Chaney; her great grandchildren, Blase and Bella Taylor, Emma and John Travis Day, George Taylor and Lawson Bullinger, Michael Charles and Dayne Passman, Alice and Georgia Travis, Cierra, Candace, Chelsea, and Carley James, and Courtney Alexander, Sean and Sarah Kimball, Reagan Kimball, and Mattie Chaney; special friend, Jenny Dawson. Reunited in heaven with her husband of 64 years, Clyde “Billy” Travis, son in law, Randy Taylor grandchildren, Angela Kimball, Brantley Taylor, and Brent Travis; parents, Cleon and Mattie Smith Hutchinson; and a brother, Cleon Hutchinson Jr. Visitation will be Friday, February 1, 2019 from 6:00PM until 9:00M at Pine Ridge United Methodist Church, 3893 Hwy 440, Kentwood, LA. Visitation will resume on Saturday, February 2, 2019 from 9:00AM until religious services at 11:00AM. Dr. Rev. Michael Townsend will be conducting the services. Velta Morris – Another good report

t’s been a year since I shared an update on my ongoing journey with Lymphoma. Today I met with my oncologist to review the PET scan that I had yesterday. I am so blessed and humbled to report that no new activity was detected – everything was quiet and the same as last January! To those in my Facebook family who remember to pray for me, I thank you. May God bless you all, and to Him be all the glory!

Don’t forget to add some cans of soup to the top of the organ. The Youth on mission are collecting the soup for Hope Center in Roseland.

Josiah Huckaby

Josiah is finally out of the cath lab (they finished up about 1:30 pm) & settled in his room (since about 2 pm). He seems to be doing good. The veins in his legs have rerouted themselves due to all the central lines he’s had in the past. This caused an issue with putting in the stents because they are no longer straight but look like sideway V’s. The other option was to go through the neck but they would’ve had to do a u-turn to get the stent in one vein & just leave the other vein closed since it had completely collapsed. The only other option was to go through the liver…so that is what they did. It was the most direct path to get both stents in place. So he now has 2 stents. They have him on IV sedation since he can’t move for 6 hrs. They will be monitoring his liver visually & by labs to make sure he doesn’t have any internal bleeding following the cath. The dr was pleased with the stents & he will have to have another cath in about 2.5 months to increase the stent size which will provide more stability for the veins. After that, he will most likely have a cath every 3-4 months for about a year then they will decrease to about every 6 months. He will also be on a new med for 4-5 months as a trial to see if it will slow down the progression of his pulmonary vein stenosis. If all goes well tonight and he can get back to his home settings on the vent, he should be able to go home tomorrow. To God be the glory!!! ❤

Barbara “Barb” Gaut Graham

December 07, 1934 – January 26, 2019

Barbara “Barb” Gaut Graham of Baton Rouge passed away January 26, 2019 at the age of 84 with her three daughters by her side. A private funeral service was held. Barb was a beautiful soul with a spirit that was strong and free. She was loved by many for her kind heart and fun nature. She treasured her time with her family and made family and friends feel loved and special. She enjoyed traveling and was always willing to bring along anyone that wanted to join her. A trip with Barb was like no other, and she had a way of helping others see the beauty in simple things that might have gone unnoticed. Barbara leaves behind her daughters Kim Lowery (Bill), Wendy LeBlanc (Mark) and Dana Bass (Brandon). She especially enjoyed her role as Meme, and she adored her grandchildren Keely Roussel (Ryan), Caroline LeBlanc, Aubrey and Brandon Le Barrett, and her great grandchildren Kate and Ryder Roussel. She is also survived by her sister Gail Ragusa. She was preceded in death by her parents Pearl Swindle, F. L. Swindle and Arlie Gaut, and brothers Gary Gaut, Sr. and Ron Gaut. The family would like to thank the compassionate caregivers at Capital Oaks Nursing & Rehabilitation Center and Hospice in His Care, and a special thank you to Chaplain Tommy Cain, Sr. for his spiritual support. Brandon McElveen had five bypasses. He is in his mid-40″s. Thank God for the successful surgery.
Andy Taylor‘s cataract surgery went well. Pray for Andy and Betty as he recovers,
Eleanor Morris continues to improve on walking on her new hip. Thank God for allowing her to have this surgery.
David had a long day yesterday in Baton Rouge including visiting in the High Grove Ochsner that just opened. We were thankful to have Jennie with us and driving. David was able to get his Procrit shot even thought his number was 10.1 because the number was “trending downward”. Pray for David’s energy level and strength to increase.

Sandra K Smith, 68, of Lacombe died Friday January 25, 2019 at Lacombe Nursing home. Sandra was born February 2, 1950 in Hicksville, Ohio. She was the daughter of the late Bill (and Joyce) Albertson and the late Beverly Fiig Burt. Sandra was an avid member of the Lions Club. She also loved spending time with her grandchildren. She is survived by her husband Leon (Buck) Smith. She is survived by her son Scott Smith and his wife Kelley Smith. She is survived by her siblings Charles Albertson Sr. Butler, IN; Joana and Neil Bonecutter of Edgerton, OH; Sarah and David Clark of Hicksville, OH; Martha and Kim Elson of Hamilton, IN; and Mary and Tim Algire of Montpelier, OH. She has four grandchildren Tyler Welch of Slidell; Blaine Welch of Slidell; Ryan Welch of Slidell; and Emma Welch of Slidell. She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents and two siblings. Wanda Smith asked us to pray for her daughter-in-law, Courtney Bruce. She was in an automobile accident a while back and is still in pain. Pray the surgery Tuesday will relieve her pain.

Pray for David as he meets a new health-care provider tomorrow. He will see a liver specialist in Baton Rouge.
