Joey Baugh is returning to his family this week after serving in the Middle East with the military.  Kirk Wales has just deployed.  Thank God for Joey’s safe return.  Pray for Kirk as he serves.  Thank God for all the others who are in the military serving to protect the people of our great country.

Pray for Bonnie Blue Broussard as she has surgery this morning at nine in Baton Rouge.  Pray for her family as they wait during surgery and then care for Bonnie Blue as she recovers.

Pray for Debbie Bales.  She’s hospitalized in McComb.

Continue to pray for Wendell Simmons as he has surgeries to help him recover from his motobike accident.  Wendell is still in Jackson,MS.

Smiley Conerly is better.  Thank you for praying for him.

Donald Ray Cutrer

Donald Ray got to come home and he is doing well. He will still have to take the IV medications for another 6 weeks, but the doctors and nurses showed hin how to administer that. They placed a shunt or whatever it is called in his arm and he gives the drip to himself twice daily. The drip takes about one hour to administer and then he is through for the next twelve hours and he starts all over again.
Thanks to all for your prayers, but still pray for him as he goes through the next six weeks. He feels so much better now that he is at home.
His sugar level now is from 100 to 156 and if it stays that way he can take the meds by mouth instead of the Insulin shots. I sure hope the pills work. Well thanks again my Christian friends for your prayers…..

ONE DAY, MY husband and I took up racquetball…

Knowing I needed the exercise, I also ventured into the little box that was the court.  It seemed a trifle small for the two of us, but it was fun.  Having played tennis years ago, in the days of my youth, I managed quite well.  However, being thoroughly out of shape, I found myself running furiously in every direction for about twenty minutes and then suddenly collapsing in a whimpering heap in a corner of the court.

My experience reminded me of many Christians.  Starting off with great enthusiasm, they leap frantically around, chasing the ball and running themselves into the ground, ending up beaten in a short span of time.  This is not the way to play the game.  Watch an expert racquetball player, and you see he paces himself well, knowing just where to put his feet.  He even finishes a vigorous game with steps left over.  The idea is to plod with God, rather than to race through space.  Jill Briscoe, “The Other Side of Redemption,” Here Am I, Lord…Send Somebody Else!,79-80

WORLD LEADERS. “Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence” (1 Timothy 2:1-2). Please pray today for Prime Minister Joachim Rafael Branco of Sao Tome and Principe (Gulf of Guinea, western Africa).

HIDDEN MOUNTAIN PEOPLE OF EAST ASIA. Ask the Father to impress upon local believers not only the great need to reach their neighbors and friends for Jesus, but also the great need to go to the remote places and do whatever it takes to reach the Hidden Mountain people with the Gospel.

KASHMIRI MUSLIMS OF INDIA (KASH-meer-ee). Give thanks to God for answering your prayers by providing amazing opportunities to interact with several government agencies and tourism groups in the area through a visiting expert. After visiting several new areas in the valley, workers believe that a new project might open doors in new villages for local believers to earn a livable wage, and for lost families living in poverty to hear the Good News.

Pray for Jennie and the children as they prepare to travel here for a brief family visit.

Stacy Scarle

Just a brief update on Stacey. We saw the oncologist on Friday. She reports the the bone scan and heart echo were fine. This is great news. We only have the CTs left and that will be at the end of the month. She thinks Stacey is doing fine. She has lost all of her hair and Darla cut the remaining straglers last night. She wears her wig and has named her “Maude”. She says Maude doesn’t like to be around a lot of people and that she creeps up her head when she is ready to go home. I can’t vouch for that but I know when she gets that look that we better be heading home. Of course we only go out for Drs, drug store and groceries so it isn’t that often. She stil has a good attitude and is positive that she will be ok. She continues to pray for a miracle and says when she sees the surgeon there won’t be anything to operate on. I pray she is correct. Keep praying for her as she goes through this ordeal. The last few weeks have been trying. Thanks for your cards and calls they really help.

Wendell Simmons

Wendell Simmons had a motorcycle racing accident over the weekend.  He is now hospitalized at University Hospital in Jackson, MS.  Wendell has a broken tibia as well as a hip problem.  Pray for Wendell as he is treated and healing in the coming months.

Smiley Conerly

Smiley is dealing with a case of pneumonia.  Pray he can beat it soon with no additional problems.

Judy Liberto

Judy continue to recover nicely from surgery.  Thank God for her great progress.

Alice Faye Lee

Alice Fay is doing well with her broken humerus.  She was at church yesterday. Pray for continued good healing.

David and I are beginning the final countdown until Jennie and the children arrive a week from today.  Please pray for them as they make preparations for the long trip from Prague to Kentwood.

A TEN-YEAR-OLD who is playing in a living room inadvertently knocks over a lamp and cracks its ceramic base…

He knows that the lamp is highly treasured by his parents, and–based upon past performance–he knows that they will fly into a rage when the crack is discovered.  He realizes this in an instant as he surveys the damage.  As he plots his next move, he can have no thought of confession.  He notices that the lamp can be turned that the crack faces the wall and cannot easily be seen.  Rather than face the issue head-on with his unapproachable parents, he elects to cover up the problem.

For weeks, however, the guilty child lives in fear of the day when someone will find the crack.  Every time he sees his father or mother go near the lamp to turn it on or off, his body tenses–has the moment of truth arrived?  The longer the secret is undisclosed, the more it drives a quiet wedge between him and his parents.  He doesn’t enjoy the living room, especially when his parents are in it.  Even the objects in the room become his enemies because they are identified with the lamp whose crack is going to betray him one of these days.  The anticipated response to the crack has become more significant than the original problem.  But unapproachability in bad moments–“when the heart is faint”–has quenched all possibility of keep short accounts.

Why is it hard to grant to children the same forgiveness we adults so desperately desire when we make mistakes?  Must there be punishment for something which was done unintentionally–even if the initial act was actual disobedience?

The approachability of fathers in the early years of their children’s lives will reduce the number of defense mechanisms their children will erect.  If they experience sledge-hammer reactions in their sour moments, children will create a remarkable facility for passing responsibility, making excuses, or perhaps taking no risks at all.  What father wants that?  Much better that they find in their fathers–effective fathers–tender responses when their child-sized hearts are faint.  Gordon MacDonald, “No Busy Signals Here,” The Effective Father, 132-133

Dear Intercessors, this is Eleanor Witcher of the Office of Global Prayer Strategy, encouraging you to pray for clear communication and language acquisition.

Join the Bozo Team in praising God as they write: “Though they could say a total of about six words in the language, two volunteers came to share the Word . . . and share they did! Each night that they stayed in the small Bozo camp, the two college-age young women would take out their English Bible and the Bambara Bible they had been lent and ask permission to read it aloud. They received the blessing of their host to do so, and with the offer to stop when needed, they began to read the Word of God to this family. When stopping for a break, they were urged to continue and soon had the attention of the man who positioned himself close enough to read along. This continued for three nights. The young women came back fulfilled and excited, while the remnant of what was read remains to be pondered by the family. This Bozo family heard the Truth from two young women who couldn’t even say a whole sentence in the language.”

“Learning new languages can be very rewarding and even a fun experience as one begins to communicate with the nationals in their heart language. However, for so many, this can be a very discouraging time. Mature, well-educated and eager missionaries often find themselves barely speaking like a 2 year old after months of studying a language. It is a humbling time for them. Please pray with us for our missionaries in the Zambezi Cluster who continue to work on their language acquisition. It is an ongoing learning process”

* Please pray that Christian workers all will be able to communicate the Gospel in ways that the people truly understand.

* Give thanks for the perseverance of volunteers as the persistently share the Gospel even without language skills.

* Intercede for the nations that God will draw them to salvation and to His holy throne.

Have a great Lord’s Day!  Spend some time with your Heavenly Father and your earthly father if possible.

Donald Cutrer and KaLeigh Powers

Donald had to have a second surgery on his knee Wednesday as the infection was getting really bad again. He is still in the hospital. I went to visit him yesterday and he tells me he is doing fine, but I was there when they re-dressed his knee and it sure looked bad. I am sure the good Lord and the medications will see him through this. He has what they call MARSA and some of it had gotten to the bone, but the doctors assured us they had gotten it all this time. He will be on antibiotics for another 6 weeks which will be given via an infusion. Please continue to pray for him.
I took KaLeigh this morning for her stitches to be removed, but the doctor wanted to leave them another week. She was very disappointed about that. Otherwise she is doing fine. Thanks again for the prayers.

Pray for the family who lost four children and an unborn grandchild in a train/van accident north of Independence yesterday afternoon.  Pray for their spiritual health through this very difficult time.  Also, pray for the emergency responders who worked this accident.

Pray for the safety of people who do not have air conditioning during this hot weather.  Pray they will find ways to stay cool enough to assure their health and comfort.

Please pray today for Prime Minister Sailele Malielegaoi Tuila’epa of Samoa (southwestern Pacific Ocean, between Hawaii and New Zealand).

CITY OF SOUTHERN SONG, CHINA. There are more than 30,000 university students on a campus where Christian workers teach, and only a handful of students have ever heard the name of the one holy God. Students are warned against foreign religions and encouraged to report anyone who talks about Christianity. Give thanks to God that some students have formed a weekly Bible-study group. Pray that the group can find a safe meeting place. Pray for each of these students to open their hearts to receive His free gift of salvation. chopsticks@pobox.com

LAST FRONTIER. As workers continue to live and teach among a Last Frontier people group that is the majority people group in their area, they see minority groups that have believers and teachers among them. But this majority group is still without a church or a Bible study group. Through IMB World Hunger Funds, a “pig project” is being started in this difficult-to-reach area among this majority people group. Through this pig project, in addition to skills being taught for raising pigs, spiritual principles will be taught to young believers and training will be provided to them so they can go out and share physical and spiritual knowledge with their lost neighbors. Please remember Mr. B and his family as they prepare to move to the pig project site and begin to teach. Ask for physical and spiritual safety. Intercede for the authorities as well, as it was less than three years ago that Mr. B was thrown out of this area for having a house church in his relative’s home.

DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF THE CONGO (DRC). “Thank you for all your prayers concerning the new water-filter factory,” writes the Congo Team. “The container full of equipment finally arrived, and everything in it is being used to start making water filters. Pray that the filters will be made and the visits out to the people will be successful–successful in that the people we visit will desire to buy the inexpensive filters so their families will have better health, and that they will come to know and tell others the Living Water stories from God’s Word.”

MAROON TRIBES OF SURINAME AND FRENCH GUIANA. Please pray for the village of Diitabiki. Wonderful events are taking place in this village in the jungles of Suriname. Many have come to know the saving grace of the Lord, and some have followed in baptism. Please pray for the others who are fearful concerning baptism. Also pray for the friends and family members of the Aukan people who have become believers in Christ. The mother of a boy who was saved said that he is a different guy, with joy in his heart. OUR ALL-KNOWING GOD

The following questions are actual reference queries reported by American and Canadian library reference desk workers.

*  “Do you have books here?”

*  “Do you have a list of all the books written in the English language?”

*  “Do you have a list of all the books I’ve ever read?”

*  “I’m looking for Robert James Waller’s book, Waltzing through Grand Rapids.” (Actual title wanted: “Slow Waltz in Cedar Bend.”)

*  “Where is the reference desk?”  This was asked of a person sitting at a desk who had a sign hanging above her head. The sign said “REFERENCE DESK”!

*  “I was here about three weeks ago looking at a cookbook that cost $39.95. Do you know which one it is?”

*  “Which outlets in the library are appropriate for my hairdryer?”

*  “Do you have any books with photographs of dinosaurs?”

*  “I need a color photograph of George Washington [Christopher Columbus, King Arthur, Moses, Socrates, etc.]”

*  “I need to find out Ibid’s first name for my bibliography.”

*  “Why don’t you have any books by Ibid?  He’s written a lot of important stuff.”

*  “I’m looking for information on carpal tunnel syndrome. I think I’m having trouble with it in my neck.”

*  “Is the basement upstairs?” (asked at First Floor Reference Desk)

*  “I am looking for a list of laws that I can break that would send me back to jail for a couple of months.”

Makes you wonder if folks are out to disprove the saying, “There’s no such thing as a stupid question”!  Seriously, though, working at a reference desk has to be a bit intimidating.  After all, anyone is allowed to ask you any question, and you are supposed to be able to find the answer!  So, I guess one of the qualifications for the job is that you have to be omniscient! That would leave us all out.

But there is someone who is qualified, someone who knows “all the answers”. In Revelation 2 and 3, Christ includes in each of the letters to the seven churches the words “I know your works”.  God knows us.  He knows our strengths and our weaknesses.  He knows our needs.  He knows the answer to every question in our heart.  He is the ultimate “reference desk worker”. What a great God we serve and worship!

“O LORD, You have searched me and known me.  You know my sitting down and my rising up; You understand my thought afar off.  You comprehend my path and my lying down, and are acquainted with all my ways.  For there is not a word on my tongue, But behold, O LORD, You know it altogether.
