Tuesday Evening

I have a “one-day-old” photo of Jillian Bodden is anyone wishes to see it.  Please let me know so I can email it to all of you.

Mrs. Judy Liberto did very well with her surgery this morning.  Pray for her recovery process to go as smoothly.

Mrs. Annie Bell Harrell is somewhat better.  If she continues to do well, she may be able to come home by the end of the week.

Mrs. Avis Sullivan is still doing well.  Keep praying.  We may soon have to pray for her family as they try to get her to rest!

Mrs. Mark Kate LeTard of Hammond passed away and will be buried in Kentwood.  The website will not allow me to get a complete obituary at this time.  I’ll try later and/or tomorrow.

‎5th chemo tomorrow (Tuesday). Surgeon decided to do all 8 chemos, surgery, then 6 wks of radiation. I should complete chemo in December and have surgery in January. I want to thank everyone for the love & support.

Mrs. Avis Sulivan will be admitted to North Oaks at 8:30 for surgery.  Please be in prayer for her and her family.

CaringBridge

Mrs. Lois Bridges tripped at home Sunday and broke a hip.  She is scheduled for surgery Wednesday at North Oaks.  Pray for her to have a good recovery from this problem.

Robbie Lynn C. Kirby is at her home in Jackson, MS.  Thank God for the good report she received yesterday.  Pray for a full recovery from this surgery.

Please remember to pray for Judy Liberto who will have surgery in McComb this morning and Jason Dean as he has a procedure in Hattisburg today.

Disaster Relief

Disaster-Relief-02Louisiana is no stranger to natural disaster, “occurrences which cause human suffering or create human needs that victims cannot alleviate without assistance.”    Disaster Relief units in Louisiana are part of a national fleet of responders working with partners in other states and the North American Mission Board.  They respond to other states when requested by NAMB.

The many faces of Louisiana missions include those serving through Disaster Relief as well as recipients.  Through feeding units, chain saw units, shower units and laundry units, Louisiana Disaster Relief provides assistance in our state, in other states, and in other countries.

The Disaster Relief budget comes from the Georgia Barnette State Missions Offering.  This budget is used to maintain equipment and at times has been needed to purchase new equipment.

Gibbie McMillan, Disaster Relief Director asks that we pray for:

  • provisions needed for response when disaster strikes;
  • sensitivity to the needs of the people involved in Disaster Relief;
  • this ministry to be used to reach and reap a harvest of souls for the Kingdom; and
  • more volunteers to respond to God’s call to be part of this great work.

Disaster Relief volunteers helped to prepare more than 7,000 Buckets of Hope for shipment to Haiti in Spring 2010.  While this is not a direct state missions ministry, it was possible because of the cooperative efforts of Louisiana Baptists on mission together.

Monday – Still Afternoon

Robbie Lynn C. Kirby

Just recd. call from Linda. They have already called Robbie Lynn from the Dr. office and they already have the test results from the path. lab and they did not find any cancer in her cervix or the limph nodes they tested. Our GOD is an awesome GOD and he heard and answered the prayers of all the people who have been praying and it has been many many people all over even as far as Idaho. So everyone can rejoice with us and thank and praise God for the great test results. Hopefully from here we will have the 6-8 wks of recovery and she will be on the way to better health. She will still have some past and present health issues to deal with but as it stands now cancer will not be one of them. Continue to pray for Robbie Lynn and thank all of you from the bottom of our heart for all the prayers you have already offered up on her and our behalf. May God bless all of you. Robert Callihan

Ellen “Doodle” Russell Brocato
(November 19, 1951 – September 12, 2010)

A resident of Amite, she died at 12:50 p.m. on Sunday, September 12, 2010 in Amite, LA. She was born November 19, 1951 in Clinton and was 58 years of age. She is survived by her husband, Mike Brocato, Amite; sister, Malaki Hayden Gore and her husband, Johnny, Nederland, TX; brother, Clarence “Cootie” Russell and his wife, Marilyn, Franklinton; niece, Dr. Melissa Leigh Russell and her husband, Dr. Sam Yoselevitz, Cambridge, MA; nephew, Adam Lane Russell, Franklinton; her dog, Ginger. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gerald and Lavilla Russell. Visitation at McKneely Funeral Home, Amite, from 8 a.m. until religious services at 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 14, 2010. Services conducted by Pastor Jeff McKneely. Interment Arcola-Roseland Cemetery, Arcola.

Monday Morning Addition

Hey Everyone,Great news has been received. As of September  12, 2010, Kirk is coming home from Afghanistan. After being assigned to MARSOC (Marine Special Operations Command) for five years, HQ Command has decided that he has completed his assignment in getting the battalion deployed and established. They are bringing him home to Camp LeJeune and after some down/off time, he will be assigned a new duty at Camp LeJeune.  He has no real idea what that duty will be but is excited that it will be different.We/he wants to thank you for your prayers, support and encouragement. The e-mails, mail and packages were greatly appreciated. We talked to him Friday, September 10 and he was disappointed in leaving all of the other Marines behind, but is looking forward to the time off and moving on to a new position. He is extremely excited to be home to be with Shannon and the kids and of course football season.Thanks Again,Chris and Kathy

Judy Liberto asks us to pray for her as she has surgery tomorrow at 6 A.M. in McComb.

Jason Dean will be having a spinal tap in Hattisburg tomorrow.  Please pray he can find the back problem so it can be corrected.

Lloyd Hayden had a reaction to medication last week and was hospitalized.  He is now home and improving.  Please keep him in your prayers.

Please continue to remember Margaret Huber in your prayers.

Mrs. Annie Bell Harrell is still hospitalized in Covington.  Please keep praying for her and her family.

Pray for the family of Gene Russell as they have his funeral service today.  His wife, Yvonne, was not able to be at the wake last night even though the family was able to get her to this area.  Continue to keep her in your prayers.

Cowboy-Church-02Richard Swain describes the work and ministry of Cross Branded Cowboy Church as “bringing the message of Jesus and ministering to people of Western culture and heritage…”  Those who worship at Cross Branded and other uniquely-focused ministries enjoy the opportunity to worship with others who share the same interests; in this case, cattle, horses, and rodeos.

Financial assistance from the Georgia Barnette State Missions Offering has helped Cross Branded Ministry to purchase materials and supplies for worship and Bible study, and especially Bibles that are used at rodeo events.

Is this ministry effective?   A 10-year-old girl is one of those who has come to know the Lord as Savior through this church.  She was baptized into the membership of the sponsoring church, Pine Grove Baptist, Ruby.

These are some of the many faces of Louisiana missions.  As we pray for the ministry at Cross Branded, please pray for:

  • God’s continued directions for this cowboy ministry and others like it;
  • A permanent site for this cowboy church;
  • Courage for leaders to speak out more for Christ; and
  • A pastor to shepherd this flock.

Uniquely focused churches/ministries in Louisiana include those reaching the arts culture, the homeless, and those with addictive disorders.

Day 1

New Hope Baptist Church, Jennings

Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not rely on your own understanding; think about Him in all your ways and He will guide you on the right paths.”

New-Hope-02In the beginning children were the focus of the ministry that now bears the name New Hope Baptist Church. Trusting in the Lord has led this mission church from those days of teaching in a gutted-out school bus to the completion of a beautiful worship center in late spring 2010.  This church is now home to families, many of them still related to those first children.

Volunteers from several Louisiana churches, working through the Mission Builder program, joined with this church family to build the new worship center. This cooperation maximized the grants from the Georgia Barnette State Missions Offering, making this building possible.

As we pray for New Hope and similar mission churches in our state, each one making steady growth, pray specifically for:

  • The new pastor and his family who came to the field in Summer 2010;
  • A much-needed youth leader to assist in reaching families, discipling and teaching youth;
  • Leadership training opportunities; and
  • Pastor Charrier and his family as he continues in the multi-tasking ministry of church planting.

In 2009-2010 Louisiana Baptist Mission Builders helped to build 12 new mission churches, involving volunteers from Louisiana and 30 other states.

Most of us know the meaning of that Scripture, but many of us need to be reminded of it from time to time.

Micah Tolleson is in ICU in Texas after having two seizures.  He will have a test today to determine if a brain tumor is the problem again this time.  Please pray for him and his family as they are facing numerous health issues.

The movie. “To Save a Life”, will be showing for FREE tonight at 6 P.M. at the Amite Cinema. You are invited to attend and bring someone with you.  I did some checking on the movie and learned it is especially good for teens and their parents.

The wakes for Gene Russell and Don Goynes will be tonight.  Mrs. Josephine Brumfield’s is tomorrow.  Check back posting of The Prayer Link for more information.  Please continue to pray for each of these families.

EVER WONDER WHAT would happen if we treated our Bible like we treat our cell phone…?

What if we carried it around in our purses or pockets?

What if we flipped through it several times a day?

What if we turned back to go get it if we forgot it?

What if we used it to receive messages from the text?

What if we treated it like we couldn’t live without it?

What if we give (it) to kids as gifts?

What if we used it when we traveled?

What if we used it in case of an emergency?

There is something to make you go …hmmm…where IS my Bible?

Oh, and one more thing.

Unlike our cell phone, we don’t have to worry about our Bible being disconnected because Jesus already paid the bill.

Saturday Afternoon

Please remember my Texas relatives in prayer again.  My cousin, Micah, is being taken to a hospital in Texas.  This family is physically and emotional drained.  Pray for them as God gets them through a very difficult day.

Mrs. Josephine “Mer’Phinie” Harvey Brumfield
(October 22, 1908 – September 11, 2010)

Josephine Harvey Brumfield — known to her friends as Phinie; known to her grandchildren as Mer’Phinie, passed away at her home surrounded by her loving family at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 11, 2010 at the age of 101.

A loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great great grandmother as well as a well known artist, she will be missed by all. She was a life long resident of Amite and member of the Amite Art Club as well as the Stem and Stamen Garden Club.

MerPhinie was born on October 22, 1908 in Tylertown, Mississippi. She was married to Welton H. Brumfield, Sr. and had three children – namely Sara Frances Brumfield; Welton H. Brumfield, Jr. and Claude H. “Hank” Brumfield, Sr.

She is survived by five grandchildren, Gregory Welton Brumfield and wife, Nicole, Amite; Sara Frances Brumfield, Amite; Barbara Rene Brumfield Davis and husband, David, Amite; Rebecca “Becki” Brumfield Biandolillo and husband, Mike, Amite and Bryan Keith Brumfield and wife, Jan, Fluker.

Nine great grandsons — Brandon Andrews and wife, Jessica; Jared Richardson; Grant Richardson; Gray Richardson and wife, Donna; Grayson Brumfield; Brent Davis; Caleb Brumfield; Bradley Brumfield and Blake Brumfield.

Twelve great grand Daughters, Gretchen Ockman and husband, Michael; Lindsey Jo Brumfield; Brandy Kay Andrews Bel and husband, Geoff; Blair Reid; Kristi Brumfield Hyde and husband, John; Chelsea Brumfield Baugh; Ashley Brumfield; Marlyn Davis; Lauren Brumfield; Sydni Biandolillo; Ali Brumfield and Alexis Biandolillo.

Eleven great great grandchildren, Kelsey Ockman; Keegan Ockman; Kelton Baugh; A J Hyde; Brooke Hyde; Graysen Richardson; Masen Richardson; Avery Andrews; Kahne Andrews; Alayna Bel and Katelyn Bel.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Welton H. Brumfield, Sr; parents, James H. Harvey and Fannie Lou Harvey; sisters, Florence Elizabeth Harvey; Jennie Swayze Harvey; Frances Louise Harvey; a brother, James Edwin Harvey; a daughter, Sara Frances Brumfield; two sons and daughters-in-law, Welton H. Brumfield, Jr. and wife, Edna Jacquelyn “Jackie” and Claude H. “Hank” Brumfield, Sr. and wife, Eleanor Evelyn “Cricket; two grandchildren Lauri Brumfield Richardson and Claude H. Brumfield, Jr.

Visitation will be at the First United Methodist Church, 800 N. Duncan Avenue, Amite, from 9:00 a.m. until Celebration of Life Services at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Brady Whitton, officiating. Interment will be at Amite Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the First United Methodist Church, 800 N. Duncan Ave., Amite, LA 70422.
