Monday Update

Judy Dickson’s update on Don –

“He had his surgery yesterday about 1 P.M.  Dr said the surgery went well.  He repaired the two blockages.  He is in ICU-C now.  I just spoke with his nurse and he said that he had a restful night and that he was going to get him up to seat in a bedside chair. Thank you to all for your prayers,  God’s hand has guided us through this.  We are so blessed that we were able to get him to the hospital.  We love you.”

Monday

“All Scripture is God-breathed

and is useful for teaching,

rebuking,

correcting

and training in righteousness.”

~2 Timothy3:16 (NIV)~

Thankfulness: Day 10 – Today, I’m thankful for freedom to worship and live according to the teachings I learn at church and through reading God’s Word.  We may not realize what a blessing that is until it is taken from us.  That would be sad, horrible, unsettling, and all the other negative words I can think of.

Macy Gueldner – http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/macygueldner/journal/view/id/545fb1c5cb16b48526b6910e

Please pray for Sue Lavene and her family.  Sue is Eleanor Morris’ youngest sister.  She will have major heart surgery today.

Joe Easley is hospitalized in Greensburg.  It seems when he gets one problem corrected, two more arise.  Pray for Joe and Jean to stay healthy and firm in their faith through this long, difficult time.

Andy Taylor’s sister, Cindy Juban, will be having a heart procedure today in Baton Rouge.  Pray things go well and Cindy’s faith remains strong throughout all the problems with her health that have arisen.

Donna Fay Miller will have a heart procedure a week from today.  Pray for her health issues to “give her a break”.

Friday morning’s Bible Study – “Eve”

Read Genesis 2: 18-25; 3-4.  Let me know if you wish to have a study guide.

Sunday Afternoon

Updates

  • Don Dickinson‘s surgery was postponed because of an emergency.  Judy did now know when the surgery would be now.
  • Chris Wales is stronger and without fever.  Hopefully, the medicine has attacked the problem and is working to help him feel much better.
  • Macy Gueldner‘s infection has been identified, but now testing is being done to see what will kill it.  Macy will be hospitalized longer than hoped for.  She’s feeling good and is in a good mood most of the time.  Her biggest problem is missing her sister.

Sunday

“I call on You, God,

because You will answer me;

listen closely to me;

hear what I say.”

~Psalm 17:6, HCSB~

Thankfulness Day 9:  Today, I am thankful for Hope Center.  What a benefit this place has already been to those who have received food, shopped, etc.!   In such a short time, Hope has given hope and love to many families  In addition, the people there are ALL VOLUNTEERS, yet not a day has rolled around that Hope wasn’t adequately staffed with some special Christian people.  Not a day goes by that we cannot easily give away crosses, Bibles, and Christian literature.  I’m thankful I can be involved.  I’ve been so blessed!

Please pray for these people who are hospitalized:

  • Bud Callihan – Hammond
  • Bobby Lawson – McComb
  • Chris Wales – Baton Rouge
  • Don Dickinson – Baton Rouge
  • Anne Hurst  – Greensburg
  • Macy Gueldner – Baton Rouge

If you have prepared your Sunday School lesson, you may find this devotional refers to the same Joseph.  The lesson is “Overcome Hard Times”.  That we all can do if we let God have control.

Have a Sunday that is beautiful in every way.

Saturday Afternoon

I have two special requests.

  • Chris Wales is having some problems, blood pressure, temperature, high white blood count, weakness, etc.  Please say special prayers for Chris and Kathy.
  • Don Dickinson, Judy’s husband, is hospitalized in Baton Rouge and will have heart surgery in the morning at 9:00.  Please say special prayers for them.

Saturday

“I will delight in Your statutes;

I will not forget Your word.”

~Psalm 119:16, HCSB~

Thankfulness: Day 8, God’s Timing – Today, I’m thankful for family members having a special assignment in the States for a year.  When Mallory had a medical need this week, she quickly received first class treatment.  It’s always good to recognize God’s hand in the timing of life’s events.

Macy Gueldner

“Macy’s Mystery Fevers” finally have a diagnosis…. a central line infection. NOT good!! The cultures grew a bacteria, that is most likely growing in her line (straight to her heart.) So, Jeremy and Macy are rushing to the hospital to get antibiotics started. This is a new one for us, so we’re not really sure of the protocol, but we know that OLOL have us a “suite” waiting. We’ll be inpatient for a few days, probably until there’s no evidence of infection.

Cate will be cheering in the game tonight, so we’ll stay back for a few hours, unless things worsen.

Please pray for Macy to be healed quickly, and that we can STAY HOME, for work and school, with MUCH LESS interruptions!

Mr. Bobby Lawson was taken to Southwest Hospital Thursday Night.  Continue to pray for him and those caring for him.
Three requests from Suzanne Crowe
  • I am scheduled to have one of my knees replaced on November 25. Please
pray that the surgery and recovery will go well.
  • Also, please pray for my husband, Joe, who has not been feeling well lately. It has been 14 years since he was diagnosed with CLL (chronic lymphocytic leukemia).
  • And, of course, please pray for our daughter, Melanie Lucido, who battles Wegener’s disease on a daily basis.

But, even with all our problems, God has been so good to us and we put our trust and faith in him now and forever. We appreciate your prayers on our behalf!

Chris Wales

He was moved this afternoon to the Neuro-Medical Center Rehab Hosp at Bluebonnet and Perkins to begin the next phase of his recovery. He’ll probably be there for a week, maybe two, depending on how well he progresses through rehab. Prayers are still requested as I’m thinking this will be a tough time for him. He was running fever this afternoon and still in a lot of discomfort. The fever has broken and he is medicated and will hopefully get some rest tonight. Thank you.  Kathy

Mrs. Anne Hurst – “Miss” Anne is in Greensburg hospital for regular medication and monitoring.  Pray with her that she can get back in her routine soon.

Susan Rimes will have additional testing on her thyroid on November 12th and surgery on the 18th at North Oaks.  Pray for Susan and her family as she prepares for this to happen.

Unspoken request for friends – Pray for some friends who are not ready to share their need here yet.

Friday

“All the ends of the earth

will remember and turn to the Lord.

All the families of the nations

will bow down before You,

for kingship belongs to the Lord;

He rules over the nations.”

~Psalm 22:27-28, HCSB~

Mallory got to go home yesterday afternoon.  She’ anxious to do her school work and make up and keep up with her lessons.  She will be at home for at least two weeks.  Home health begins today.  Thank-you for praying.  Thank God for walking through this problem with Mallory and her family.

Thankfulness: Day 7 – This was not in my original thoughts, but is now because of Mallory’s burns.  I thank God for all that happened “just right” to help Mallory and her family this week.  Neighbors, friends, co-workers, etc. brought love and encouragement to the family.  I’m also thankful the family was in Richmond and close to great medical care.  The family was blessed last month when Boyd’s dad passed away and again this month.  God can and does get people through difficult days.  I’m so thankful they know Him and He knows them as His children!

Devotional, Scripture, and a Song

This devotional is the one scheduled for everyone to read today.  Amazingly, God timed it “just right” for me.  He does things like that all the time for us.

  • There shall be no more curse.                                                                                                    ~Revelation 22:3~
  • “Peace in the Valley”
    • Originally, this was a Negro spiritual.
    • Do your own Google search to see how many big-time musical artists (Johnny Cash, Red Foley, Frank Sinatra, Red Foley, Loretta Lynn, Ronnie Milsap, Elvis Presley, etc.) have recorded this song.  I think that shows many people are searching for that peace.
    • I think it speaks to us any day, but especially in a time of need.
    • I hope you know this peace today, so it will be with you each day of your life, especially the difficult ones.

Baptist Press –  bpnews.net

I’m praying that you do have that “peace” I mentioned above.  If so, I’m so glad for you.  If not, I’m sure you know someone who can share Jesus with you.  Don’t wait until it is too late!

Mr. Bud Callihan is in North Oaks.  Please pray for him and his sweet family.

Mr. Alan Ray Blackwell is home, but has an important oncologist appointment tomorrow. Pray for him.

Cindy Juban, Andy Taylor’s sister, continues to have lots of appointments.  Pray for her as she now has some heart related tests and procedures.

Susan Rimes has an important appointment today to learn about removing her thyroid. Pray for her that this may be the solution to her body producing too much calcium that shows up as stones.

Macy Gueldner has good days and some days that are trying and difficult for her family.  Pray for her as she continues her battle.  Thank God for her family that has been so faithful to her needs.  Pray for Macy’s grandmother, Martha Pevey Dagroo as she begins her battle against cancer.

Please pray for the family of Kay and Marty Simpson and Melissa Johnson.  Their mother’s sister, Ana Martinez, passed away.

Thankfulness, Day 6 – Today, I am thankful for the Thanksgiving season for two reasons. One, our ancestors recognized how important God has been in their individual lives and the life of our country  and set a special time of the year for us.  Two, we are reminded to count our blessings and thank the One who has done so much for us individually, as a family, as a church community, as a country, and as a world. The greatest thing is that Jesus died for the sins of all of us so that we might have a heavenly home forever when we leave this imperfect world.  There is no greater gift any of us could ever hope for!

Mallory Hatchel – I haven’t heard from Jennie yet this morning, but expect an update after the doctor makes rounds this morning.  I am thankful that her siblings could visit last night. They all had to wear blue gowns to be there.

Wednesday Evening

Update on Mallory Hatchel

She’s spending a second night in the hospital.  She’ll be at home for a couple of weeks with home health before returning to school.

Johnny Santangelo

From Megan:
“We met with Lil Man’s radiation oncologist this morning. After looking at the MRI and assessing Lil Man, he still thinks the area they are watching is just pseudoprogression. Lil Man is asymptomatic and feeling great! The perfusion portion of the MRI is not back yet so we will still have to wait on those results. The doctors have cleared Lil Man to go home and he will follow up again in a month. They are very pleased with how he is doing and told him to continue whatever he is doing! We all know the power of prayer and God Almighty are why he is doing so well!! Praise God!! We love you all and thank you for the continued prayers!!” Thanks to all for everything! , Hunter

Donna Fay Miller is continuing to have medical tests and medication changes.  Pray her issues will be resolved soon.

Baptist Friendship House

It is so amazing to watch relationships form and grow with the individuals that come to get snack packs and hygiene kits each week. For some of the people it isn’t just about getting the much needed items placed in the packs. It’s more about getting to spend time in conversation with people that truly care about them and what is happening in their lives. One man comes all the way across town on his bike just to spend time with us. Others, simply enjoy a place to sit down, eat a snack, and read the newspaper. Pray for each person that comes to receive the snack packs and hygiene kits and for the relationships that continue to grow between them and our volunteers and staff.
