Sharon Phillips is still in ICU.  She is not progressing as her doctors hoped.  They are considering a pacemaker for her.  Please continue to pray.

 

 

Meg Stephens had neck surgery yesterday according to Katera McMillan who also said the recovery was going to be difficult.  Let’s pray Meg breezes through the recovery.

 

 

Stroud Phillips is hospitalized for tests.  Join his many friends in praying for him.

 

 

Nick Tullier, the Baton Rouge deputy who has been going through a long difficult recovery, now has pneumonia.  Pray for him and his family.

 

 

Mrs. Jeannette Maghee fell at home injuring her neck.  She was taken to North Oaks.  Please pray for “Miss” Jeannette and Mr. Ed.

 

 

Joanne Tate, infant daughter of Chuck and Jeanne, did very well during her heart procedure yesterday.  Thank-you for praying for the Tates.

 

 

 

Jerrye Kaye Rawls, who grow up in Roseland, passed away.  I did not locate her obituary, but her services are tomorrow in McComb.

 

 

Mr. John Alan Blackwell passed away yesterday afternoon.  I’ll miss seeing him before Sunday School.  His funeral arrangements are not posted yet.  I’ll post them later.

 

 

 

The speakers at Montpelier yesterday were Mrs. Lee McLean and her granddaughter, Heather Miller.  They told of a mission trip to Nicaragua in December 2017.  Their narrative, pictures, and display were all very good.  Later, Heather sent me a message about a trip the young adult class at New Zion will be making June 11-18, 2019.  If you know of anyone who would like to go with them, you can contact Heather through me or through New Zion Baptist Church.

Pray for Joanne Tate as she has heart surgery at noon today.  Pray for her family as they submit their baby for necessary surgery.

 

The Two Rivers Quarterly WMU Meeting will be at 10 this morning at Montpelier Baptist Church.  Speakers today are Lee McLean and her granddaughter, Heather Miller.  These ladies participated in a mission trip to Central America last summer.  Everyone is invited to attend.

Keith and Lori Rhodes live in the neighborhood near Shreveport where a tornado hit Friday night.  Their neighbor’s tree fell in the street, not on the Rhodes home.  It is also the area where a little two year old girl was killed when a tree fell on a RV she was sleeping in.  Please pray for the people in the child’s family.  Thank God there were no other deaths.

 

 

Locally, a tornado hit north of Amite (Arcola area).  Trees were down and lights off, but no lives were lost.  Thank God for his protection for all the people in our area.

 

 

Pray for my former student, Joanne Seymour, who lived in Amte at the time.  Joanne has colon cancer that has spread to her liver.  Pray for her as she begins treatment in NY.  Pray for her as she travels and for her family as they help her during her treatment.

 

 

Pray for Chuck and Jeanne Tate and their new baby, Joanna, who will have surgery Monday to open a valve in her heart.  I know the family will so appreciate your prayers.

 

 

I failed to mention the Syria situation, but know all of you are aware of what has happened there recently.  Please pray for a good ending to the current problems.  Pray for strong and Godly leadership.  Thank God for those in the military who serve all around the world so people can be safe.

Ladies’ Breakfast at FBC, Kentwood – This morning the ladies of FBC will be treated to breakfast and a speaker before Sunday School.  The gathering begins at 7:45 in the fellowship hall.

 

 

Tomorrow’s Quarterly WMU meeting will be at Montpelier Baptist Church.  First, there will be a leadership meeting at 9:00.  The meeting will begin at 10:00 and conclude with a potluck lunch.  Mrs. Lee McLean and her granddaughter, Heather Miller, will share information about their recent Mission Trip.  I hope you will be able to come and to bring a friend.  Join us as we focus outward in our churches.

Mrs. Mimi Sneed needs prayer for dental work she is undergoing.

 

 

Sharon Philips will be having a heart valve replaced today in Covington.  Pray all goes well today and in the recovery phase.

 

 

Firma Kay Schneeweiss passed the heart tests yesterday, so she was sent home with new medication for GERD.  Thank God she has the less serious problem.

 

 

Jennie made it back to Prague and is with her family.  Thank-you for your prayers.

Earl Wayne McCarroll, Sr., a resident of Roseland, passed away on Monday, April 9, 2018 at his home. He was born March 26, 1956 in Independence and was 62 years of age. Missionary Spotlight Update: Eric and Julie Maroney

Relationships are everything in Croatia. It takes years of living through the good and bad together to create a certain level of trust. Eric and Julie Maroney are ready to live through some of the good.

Soon after filling out the WMU questionnaire for the story about their family in the April issue of Missions Mosaic, Julie was diagnosed with cancer. It was not a convenient time for the diagnosis—the Maroneys were leaving their eldest child, Nathan, in the United States at college after 19 years of living in Croatia with the International Mission Board (IMB). The diagnosis brought their active lifestyle to a standstill.

After a year of cancer treatments in the States, Julie received the “all-clear” to return home to her neighbors and friends. Eric, Julie, and daughter Kayleigh didn’t just pick up where they left off; they entered Croatia running to keep up.

“It’s been hectic getting back,” Eric conceded. Just a few months ago, Julie was still getting radiation therapy. However, the family dove right into hosting 2 camps, Vacation Bible School, and volunteer missions teams.

The family may have gone through a trauma, but its goal is the same—building relationships in order to share the love of Jesus Christ.

“The greatest need in Croatia is for a personal relationship with Jesus Christ,” Eric said.

Pray for a spiritual hunger among Croatians. With the family’s brush with cancer, its fire to share Christ burns brighter than ever before.

Sue Sprenkle spent decades traveling the world for the IMB as a missionary writer/photographer. Now, she leads a quiet life as a digital media professor in Kansas.

Updates

  • Bobby Simpson is having long therapy times each day and progressing.  Later, he will have outpatient therapy in Hammond and then in Greensburg.  Pray for him and for Betty and other family members.
  • Tom Brister‘s second procedure went well.  He is resting and trying to be still now.  Thank you for praying for him.
  • Bessie Hayden is home.  She seems to be doing okay in her battle with diabetes.  Keep praying.
  • Several of our oldest friends are experiencing health concerns now.  Please pray for sweet friends facing these problems and their family members.

Pray for Tom Brister as he has another procedure to stop a brain bleed.  His first procedure went well.  Let’s pray the second one, today, does as well.

 

 

Please say special prayers for Mr. Phillip Harrell and his family, especially for “Miss” Annie Bell and for their children.  Mr. Phillip is back in Stoney Point.

 

 

Continue to pray for Yvonne Birch as she recovers from her procedure in Covington.

 

 

Pray for the family of Gail M. Smith as they lay her to rest today and the family of Mr. I.W. Simmons as his services will be held in a few days.   Pray for both their many friends too as well as the Line Creek community.

Gail Miller Smith

September 13, 1941 – March 10, 2018
Gail Miller Smith was born September 13, 1941 in McComb, MS, and was the daughter of the late Alton and Anna Belle Morris of Kentwood, LA. She was a long-time resident of the Kentwood, LA and Osyka, MS areas for many years; she passed away on March 10, 2018 in Collierville, TN. She made her home in nearby Germantown, TN with her daughter and family. She was a graduate of Kentwood High School and attended Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond, LA. She and her best friend, Mary Morgan, had a successful cleaning business for 25 years, serving clients in Louisiana and Mississippi. She was a member of Germantown United Methodist Church where she enjoyed her Women’s Bible Sunday School class and was a teacher. She was also a member of Team Read mentoring program at Caldwell-Guthrie Elementary School. In addition to her parents, Ms. Smith was predeceased by her husband and father of her children, Fleet Nelson Miller, Jr., and also by her husband, Guy E. Smith; also by her sister, Mary Ann Graham. She is survived by her children, Melanie Miller Downer of Natchez, MS; Eddie Nelson Miller and wife, Destini, of Amite, LA; and Robin Miller Jordan and husband, Patrick, of Germantown, TN; brother, William Alton Morris and wife, Velta, of Lancaster, SC; step-daughters, Tracy Smith Stanton and husband, Sean, of Denham Springs, LA and Christy Smith Loflin and husband, Tommy, Baton Rouge, LA; grandchildren, Caroline Madison Downer, Miller Dalton Downer, Darby Blanche Miller, Reed Nelson Miller, Tess Elizabeth Miller; Melanie Clare Jordan, Colin Patrick Jordan and William Connor Jordan; step-grandchildren, Christian Stanton, Sydney Stanton, Emma Grace Stanton, Reese Loflin, Jackson Guy Loflin, Sampson Kyle Henshaw and Julia Elizabeth Bubrig; and numerous nieces and nephews. A celebration of life service was held at Germantown United Methodist Church on Friday, March 16 for the Memphis/Germantown friends and family. Her celebration of life at home will be held at Line Creek Baptist Church, Kentwood, LA, on Saturday, March 24, 2018. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m., followed by the service at 11 a.m. Interment will be private at Woodland Cemetery in Kentwood, LA. It is suggested that memorial contributions be made to the Germantown United Methodist Church for the benefit of Caldwell-Guthrie Weekend Lunch Program, 2331 South Germantown Rd, Germantown, TN 38138; Line Creek Baptist Church, 78659 Hwy 1053, Kentwood, LA 70444; or to Baptist Reynolds Hospice House, 1520 W.
