Wednesday

“That I may open my mouth boldly

to make known the mystery of the gospel . . .

that in it I may speak boldly,

as I ought to speak.”

~Ephesians 6:19b-20, NKJV~

(This is my prayer for each and every  teacher at any VBS in any church this summer.)

Mike Miller

Yesterday, Beverly Rohbacker asked for prayer for her cousin, Mike Miller.  She quickly told me he is NOT the Mike Miller from Kentwood.  This Mike had polio as a child.  I asked was he from Roseland.  Yes, he is the one many of us knew many years ago.  He is now 59 and in ICU at Brookhaven.  Please pray for Mike and his family.

Jadon’s Journey

We have been spending alot of time in waiting rooms. Dentist said no cavities for Jacob and Jadon. Orthotic specialist said we will order new braces for Jadon at the end of July. ENT said Jacob has to have his tubes removed next Tuesday and neurologist said that Jadon is doing fantastic. After Tuesday we should be done for a while!!

Kathy Smith

I don’t know all the details, but Bro. Danny Smith’s wife has had surgery followed by additional problems.  Please pray for Kathy and her family.  Bro. Danny is so faithful to visit Kentwood people who are hospitalized.  We certainly need to add them to our prayer list.

Eleanor Morris

Eleanor Morris went to her doctor yesterday.  She had some chest pains and was rushed to OLOL and admitted.  The doctor DOES NOT think she had a heart problem, but she was admitted for tests to learn more.  She should be released today unless results from tests show a need for a longer stay.  As you pray for her, pray for her family.  Eleanor is usually the caregiver for them.

New Baby – Rebekah Josephine Humphrey

Rev. and Mrs. Byron Humphrey of Roseland  and Mr. and Mrs. Sylvester Humphrey, grandparents, are proud of this new child in the family.  She was born yesterday (7.16 lbs & 19.5 inches).  I know her great-grandmother “Miss” Jo (Josephine Williams of Amite) is smiling down from Heaven.

East Fork Baptist Church

A team from East Fork has gone to Houston to do “mud-out” following the flooding last week.  Thank God for a team that is trained and ready to go and serve others.  May their efforts lead to opportunities to share Jesus.  Way to go, East Fork!

VBS at The Lord’s Church

Next week, June 8-12, TLC will have VBS from 6:00 – 9:30 Monday – Friday.  Their theme is “Fun Run”.  You can call 229-8621 or visit www.thelordschurchkentwood.org for more information.

Rev. Charles Kirkfield

A former student from Independence said Rev. Charles Kirkfield passed away.  He was the pastor in Independence for many years.  I taught both of his children and had several connections to him and his family.  Please pray for the family at this time.  Thank God for a man who served Him for so many years.

Operation Christmas Child – I trust you are collecting for October, 2015 packing.

Julia was born in Ukraine into a family full of poverty, pain and addiction. When she was 8-years-old, Julia’s father took all of their possessions and left her and her mother. One day, her mother was invited to church by a friend and gave her life to the Lord. Soon after, Julia’s church received brightly colored shoeboxes. Julia not only got a gift that day, but finally something to call her own. In her box she found candy, jewelry and other girl items. Julia said the shoebox gift gave her hope of a safe place. Eventually, Julia started working with the group who delivered the shoebox gifts and began reaching out to other children who grew up like she did. Julia’s own shoebox gave her more than material items; it gave her hope and reminded her that the Lord would keep her safe.

Tuesday Evening

Caysen Miller

Nikki and Josh Miller went to Baton Rouge for the birth of their son, Casen Tyne Miller.  I’ll give more information in the morning.

Hope Center gave hope on the very first day!

We had a great opening this morning with lots of volunteers as well as some community and church people.  This afternoon we made some sales.  All went well.  Now on for the report that is greater than I ever dreamed it would be.
We were able to give one family food today to meet their need even before Second Harvest has delivered the first food to us.  Thanks to the church in Roseland for making this possible.  We also helped a number of people learn about the food pantry including a man who was on the way home after a week at the hospital.
We also had some nice clothes donated by several people including a man who was there this morning.  An employee of a business came for other reasons, but said she would help get some donations from the store.  Several community people also said they would pass the word about Hope Center.  We receive some cash donations.  What a blessing this day has been to my heart!
I almost forgot.  There is a large magazine display filled with new Bibles and old church literature from classes as well as magazines like “Home Life” and “Journey”.  I know at least five Bibles and a number of magazines were taken.
Two ladies visited this afternoon.  In talking with them, I learned they were looking for a church home.  Bro. Byrum Humphrey was there, so I took them to him.  He located two Two Rivers’ churches near them on his phone. They left with names and addresses to get them involved in the church of their choice.
I feel so blessed tonight!!!   I got to see God working over and over on the very first day of operation for Hope Center.  God is so good!  The workers are very dedicated!  People who had needs got help!  The story does not end here.
When I checked my email, I found a question from a school leader who wanted to know if we would accept donations of food from a school organization?  Yes, indeed we will!.    We will be able to help people before we are ready to distribute food from Second Harvest and between the times they bring us food.
The opportunities are overwhelming!  This is all without a single flyer posted or an article in any newspaper.  God showed us all day long that Hope Center is needed and will be able to meet physical needs and spiritual needs.  I could go on and on, but I’ll stop by saying I feel so blessed to have witnessed these things and other things on the first day!
GOD IS SO GOOD!  THE NEEDS ARE GREAT!  HOPE CENTER HAS ALREADY BEEN USED BY GOD!

The Hatchels arrived yesterday evening for a visit!  We are happy, happy, happy!

Operation Christmas Child

  • My name is Sawadogo and I am in the 6th grade in a village in Burkina Faso. I want to say thank you very much for this gift box. I received things in the gift that I have never seen before in my life! I got toothpaste, toothbrush, pencils, pens, and many other things. Thank you OCC and thank you to the person who sent me this box. Because of the gift, I have started to go to church!
  • “Bags and bags of flip-flops for Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes on sale at KMart this week for 2/$1.00.” – Kathy S.
  •  In 2001, OCC visited a hospital in Moldova to deliver shoebox gifts. What a blessing to see the smiles each gift brought to the children who were patients there!
  • In a village in Albania, a little boy, after going through The Greatest Journey, ran home and asked his parents to read the lessons for him. His father gathered together the whole family, so that each of them would listen to what he was going to read. God can use even a short Bible lesson and a young boy to make Himself known among lost people!
  • “We have such fun buying things for our boxes! I have my Grands pick out two T-shirts and then I take a photo of them in their shirt to include in the box to the child. We always write a letter. It is so great for the giving end as well as for the recipient.” – Nancy H

“Left Side of the Road”

http://odb.org/?tz=-07

“A furious squall came up,

and the waves broke over the boat,

so that it was nearly swamped.

Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion.

The disciples woke Him and said to Him,

‘Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?’

He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, ‘Peace! Be still!’

Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.”

Bottom of http://www.imb.org/main/lottie-moon/abouttheoffering.asp?PageNavID=109

Jesus is the reason for the season!

I don’t mean Christmas trees, parties, and Santa.  I mean the real reason, a reason so much more important than all the other things.  Because He was born on earth, died, and rose again, we have His sacrifice for us that can lead to salvation with we have faith.
