David’s brother, Jimmy, called early yesterday morning to say the results of tests he had done Friday were in.  Jimmy’s cancer indicators have dropped from the 400″s to less than 10, a reading considered normal.  There are some people named Alford who are very thankful this morning.

 

 

 

A new Bible study, Romans, will begin Friday.  I saw a friend from another church yesterday who asked about attending.  Of course, that will be just fine, even great!   It’s not about your church connection!   It’s about a desire to study God’s Word!  Contact me or just show up Friday in the fellowship hall of FBC, Kentwood.  This week we will talk about who, what, when, etc.  The next week, we will begin with chapter on.  Come learn with us.  We begin at 10:00 A.M.

There’s excitement stirring in some hearts at FBC, Kentwood as people are getting involved in Operation Christmas Child.  A new approach this year seems to have opened our hearts to new opportunities, theme boxes, crafts for children to make, etc.  We’ll be happy to share our enthusiasm with others.  Children, far from Kentwood, will be blessed as they receive gifts and LEARN ABOUT JESUS!  The word from Kentwood is doing things differently can be even more exciting for those of us packing the shoeboxes.

 

 

The associational WMU will meet this morning at FBC, Greensburg to learn about the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering.  Join us at 10:00 A.M.  You’ll also get an opportunity to learn about the missionaries featured in the Week of Prayer this week.

 

 

This week has the potential for being extra special for some people.  Let’s include ourselves in that number.

Bill Ichter lead the choir for the crusade.  Bro. Bill was sick a week ago, but is better now.  Oh, the memories he must be living again this week.  Two great men!  Even if you don’t know Rev. Bill Ichter, I think you will enjoy reliving a crusade.  Don’t worry, the video is not in Portuguese!

Glen Magee‘s surgery is scheduled for 8 A.M. Friday.  Please pray for him as he has by-pass heart surgery.

 

 

Aubrey McMillan called last night to ask for prayers as he faces heart surgery for 10 by-passes Tuesday at Our Lady of the Lake.  Please pray.

 

 

Olivia Widas is at Children’s Hospital in Baton Rouge where she will have her appendix removed this morning.  Please pray for her surgery and her recovery.

 

 

Wayne Langley, husband of Glenda Cobb, has been very sick and was recently diagnosed with lymphoma.  Please pray for Wayne and Glenda and the family.

 

 

Wilton Hughes is better and back at home.  Thank-you for your prayers for Wilton and his family.

 

 

Rev. Bill Ichter is doing better.  Thanks for your prayers for this wonderful man who has served God faithfully for many years.  He worked with Rev. Billy Graham to some crusades in South America.

The monthly birthday party is on the fourth Monday of each month at The Cafe.  Make plans to attend in March.  We had a good time yesterday.

Josiah Huckaby

Update: Seems like little man has accomplished so much since my last update 2 1/2 weeks ago. The original plan was to start CPAP trials but they decided to just swap him completely to CPAP…he did amazing! He has been weaned off of all of his IV sedation and now we are working on weaning his oral sedation meds. Last Thursday (2/15/18), it was mentioned we could start discussing home planning! They decided they wanted to start trach collar trials this week, which is more like him getting regular oxygen without the extra support of the CPAP or vent. After our doctor talked to pulmonary, they both felt it would be safer to send Josiah home on a vent instead of pushing him to go home on a trach collar. He has a bad record of doing really well with changes at first but after some time he gets worn out and tanks. They were afraid we would get home with the trach collar and this would happen. So the decision was made to not do the trach collar trials and to go straight to a home vent (which will also help us get home a little faster)…they swapped him over to that yesterday afternoon. He has to be on the hospital issued home vent for 2 weeks with no changes (and his vent settings have to be at or below a certain number…he is very close and we only have 1 setting to work on as of right now) before they will swap him to the vent he will come home with. He will then have to be on our home vent for a certain amount of time before coming home. I’m actually a bit relieved that he will be coming home on the vent…this way he can take his time with the extra support he needs and we will work on weaning it from home. We are very excited about the progress he has made and the fact that “coming home” is actually a part of our vocabulary now…😉! Our prayer is that they will be able to find his “sweet spot” on the vent as quickly as possible and that he doesn’t get sick!!! He had a stomach bug over the weekend that we thought was going to set him back again but he did so well recovering from it. Also, we are now able to start our trach training as well…we are a bit nervous but definitely ready to jump in there and get this show on the road! And last thing, Josiah will be 1 in 2 weeks…so we are busy planning his hospital birthday party! YAY! He also has 2 teeth that have finally broken through and he’s weighing in at a whopping 21 lbs 4 oz now. Sorry for the long update, but there’s a lot of exciting things going on in the Huckaby house!!! To God be the glory!!!

Let’s keep praying for Job, K.K., and Josiah.

 

 

Mike Woodard is the brother of a friend.  He got sick and was taken to the hospital yesterday with serious issues.  His is at North Oaks in a step-down room.  He is septic and needs our prayers.

 

 

 

This morning the the Ladies’ Brunch at Hillsdale Baptist Church at 10 A.M.  We will learn about needs at the Louisiana Baptist Children’s home and how we can help.

 

 

 

If you have any partial skeins of yarn you will not be using, please leave them in the red basket at the main entrance to FBC, Kentwood.  They will be used for Operation Christmas Child projects.

 

 

 

Tuesday, we will meet at 11 at The Cafe for lunch and to celebrate ladies who have had birthdays this new year.  All ladies are invited to join us.

MD Anderson update : God not only showed up He showed out , as I type this text I am crying , because I am overwhelmed by His love and faithfulness, I know He is using this walk I am walking for His glory not mine … (but for my testimony and my story to share with others of His great healing power …. Praising Him Always as I had a sufficient amount of shrinkage and stability of the tumors and Everyone on my case was very happy and overwhelmed with these results 😊 please keep the prayers coming they are working 🙏🏼. Ann Lane (Amite)

As most of you know I will be moving to Houma on the 3rd of March. I will not have Facebook or email for a few days ,will catch up when I do get back on line. Packing ,seventeen boxes so far,more to come. The move is bitter sweet,now that Mike is no longer here with me,to sad to be in the same surrondings. I know the move will not remove the hurt I feel at his passing. I resently realized I am a tweener,not in my old life, not in my new life,somewhere inbetween,believe me not a good place to be. Love all my friends and family that has been so supportive. Keep in touch!

 

 

 

Gail Morris Miller Smith (Tennessee)

Update on Gigi- Gail Smith. She wants me to tell everyone thank you for your prayers and sweet messages. We are all sad that the cancer has returned that was in remission. It is growing again in her right lung and a mass has formed on her back near her spine. She will undergo 15 treatments of radiation to hopefully shrink the cancer so it doesn’t cause her to become paralyzed. The mass is also causing fluid to build up in her lungs. This is the biggest issue at the moment because she can’t breathe well. She is on oxygen 24-7 and they are discussing ways to put a catheter in her side to drain the fluid in her right lung. That may not be the medical term for it but basically is what they are discussing. The hospice facility will be the next step. This is the hardest part of the journey for Melanie, Eddie and myself. Mr. I. W. Simmons (Line Creek)

 Here is what I can’t tell you. He has a large mass in his stomach region ( too large for them to get an actual measurement) it is growing by the day and started affecting his breathing a couple of weeks ago, which was a sign something was wrong. It is now restricting his food from going down. The mass is inoperable and cemo is out of the question. He has an appt tomorrow with oncologist to see if radiation is an option to get some relief. I ask for prayers that Papa will be pain free during this chapter in his life and for our family patiences and strength. The Lord knows what lies ahead and I pray he prepares each of us for what that is. Friends I’ve ask for a lot of prayer request over the years. Y’all have always come thru. I have felt lifted and a blanket of mercy and grace placed over me. I thx y’all for that. This will be a tough time in our lives but with Gods love and your prayers we will arise victorious (Written by Ginger Simmons)

 

 

Ken Roberts was scheduled for a heart transplant about midnight last night.  Let’s pray for Ken and his family as they go through this procedure they have waited for so long.  Pray for other family members as they honor Mr. A.W. Reed’s life today in Kentwood.

Stacy Lynn Pittman, a resident of Kentwood, passed away on Monday, February 19, 2018. She was born June 19, 1985 in McComb, MS and was 32 years of age. She is survived by her 4 children, Lana Day, Kingston Guilliams, and Castin and Auna Pittman; father, Shelton “Red” Pittman; sister, Leslie Lord and husband, Robert Glen Lord; 2 nephews and 1 niece, Maddox Williams, and Cale and Harper Lord; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Preceded in death by her mother, Terri Redmond Pittman; and her grandparents, Lanis Wales, Jr., Sylvia Wales,  William C. Pittman and Elaine Pittman. Mrs. Ferrie Gene Blackmon‘s surgery went well at OLOL yesterday. She’s in room 6105. It’s time for physical therapy to begin.  Keep her in your prayers.

 

 

Pray for the members of New Zion Baptist Church as they regularly host numerous funeral services.  May they be great witnesses for the Lord in each situation.

 

 

 

Last Saturday, we used MANY gallon, quart, and snack size zipper type bags as we packed items for Operation Christmas Child.  If you have fabric scraps, that would also be helpful.  We could use felt and craft foam as well as lots of pony beads.  We also need sewing items, especially tape measurers which have been hard to find.  As you pack your boxes this year, think of themes – Disney, tractors, fishing, cooking, sewing, handyman tools, baseball, basketball, football, etc.   Can you tell, OCC excitement is in the air already?  Any items you have to share can be left in the large red basket in the entryway at church.

Please pray for Gail Morris Miller Smith.  She is hospitalized with pneumonia and fluid around her right lung.  I know she and her family will appreciate your prayers.

 

 

Ora Lee Wilson feels better after talking with another doctor.  Pray for her as she undergoes testing to help the surgeon determine exactly what her problem is and what is the least he needs to do to help her feel better.  He feels less surgery is a good option in her case.

 

 

Pray for the family of Mr. A.W. Reed as they finalize funeral arrangements for him.

Mr. A.W. Reid passed away yesterday.  An obituary is not yet available.

 

The Children’s Ministry Day was celebrated  yesterday.  Children from East Fork, FBC, Kentwood, and possible other churches participated.  East Fork visited the nursing home and delivered valentines and socks.  Children from Kentwood  assembled various kits and made items for Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes.  Both groups showed God’s love and worked in a meaningful ministry.  Thanks to the youth and adults who helped guide the children yesterday and who serve are good role models all the time.

 

 

Hillsdale Baptist Church is reorganizing their WMU with a big project for the Louisiana Baptist Children’s Home.  The invite ladies from our association to join them Saturday at 10:00 at H.B.C. where they will host a brunch and explain their plans.  A follow-up meeting will be in April.  To confirm your attendance, please call Katie at 974-4752.   They ask for your RSVP.

 

 

The Friday Morning Bible Study will begin the book of Romans soon, but first we will spend two weeks completing Ezekiel.  We meet at 10 A.M. in the fellowship hall of FBC, Kentwood.

Today is the day!  We will meet at the fellowship hall at 9:00 A.M. to make some items, many of them kits for children to do the crafting.  I know there are many things to do on a Saturday morning rather than to go to to create something to give away, but I think this will bless your heart more than most of these other activities.  Bring your children or grandchildren.  There’s something for everyone to do!  Most of all, the more we do the more we have to give away!  We also get to send some love with each item!  Best of all, each shoebox will lead to an opportunity to lead a family to Jesus.  Thursday night, I got to talk with someone from another church that packs many shoeboxes each year.  There was such an excitement in her voice as she told about what they do.  Giving is a real blessing!

 

 

A week from today, Hillsdale Baptist Church is hosting a brunch at 10 A.M.  They want to share their idea about an opportunity to help the Louisiana Baptist Children’s Home.  The WMU ladies (and others) are invited to participate.  If you plan to attend, please contact Katie at 985-974-4752.  Let’s get involved in the effort to help the children and in Hillsdale’s efforts to revive their WMU.   Give them a call with the count from your family, class, or group.

A great report: Dee Dee B. Matthews, niece of Betty Simpson and Ora Lee Wilson, has shown good improvement.  She still has a lot of issues, but is certainly better than she was right after the accident.  Keep praying.

 

 

Yesterday, I was asked to request prayer for someone, but not to give a name.  Today, I have been asked to report that Angela Headrick is the person who had a thyroid test that was inconclusive.  Results from a more recent biopsy have not given results yet.  In the meantime, you are asked to pray for Angela as she awaits the report.

 

 

Mrs. Bessie Hayden is still at home and waiting to go back to the hospital in a few weeks.  Please pray for her diabetes related circulation problem.

 

 

Adrian Phillips is having a problem with another buildup of fluid.  Pray medication will solve his problem.

Dorinda M. O’Brian, a resident of Slaughter, passed away on Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at Baton Rouge General. She was born October 23, 1958 in Lake Charles and was 59 years of age. She is survived by her daughter, Bertha O’Brian; 2 sons, Arnie “Ray” O’Brian, Jr. and wife, Rachel; and Teddy O’Brian and wife, Kelly; 5 grandchildren, Ethan, Lacey and Sidney O’Brian, and Makayla and Zaylee Feierabend; sister, Melissa Bordeln; and her brother, Tony Mustin. Preceded in death by her husband, Arnie “Ray” O’Brian, Sr.; parents, Harry and Dorothy Mustin; sisters, Cindy Mustin Buras Kauffman, Jenny Holden, and Crystal Buras; and her brothers, Kerry Buras and Eric Buras. The group at the cabin last night included two new guests as well as representation from eight different churches.  We were so blessed by all present, the devotional shared by Bro. Darryl, and the wonderful music shared by James Rimes and Sherman Cutrer.  Sherman has had some serious health issues and numerous (I think he said 13) surgeries since he was last at the cabin sharing with us.  It was another great Third Thursday.  Feel free to join us sometime.

 

 

The Friday Morning Bible Study will meet at 10:00 this morning in the fellowship hall of FBC, Kentwood.

 

 

Tomorrow morning at 9:00, we will meet in the fellowship hall to begin preparation of items for Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child.  Everyone is invited to spend the morning with us.  Working together on this project will help get us started on our collection process for the Christmas season deliveries around the world.  Children, K-5, the age group of the Wednesday night missions class are especially encouraged to come.  It is not too late to bring some of the items previously listed.  They can be left in the red basket at the church or left in the fellowship hall TODAY.

 

 

Another group of Bibles were delivered to the church yesterday.  Three calendars were brought to the cabin last night.  These items will be used by inmates of the Tangipahoa Parish Jail.  I will get these items to the group that ministers there on Thursday mornings.  Thank-you for doing your part in helping to collect items.  Pray for the many men and women there.
