Glenda Wicker McIntyre

November 16, 1961 – May 19, 2018

Glenda Wicker McIntyre, a resident of Kentwood, passed away on Saturday, May 19, 2018. She was born November 16, 1961 in Amite and was 56 years of age. She is survived by her husband, William McIntyre, Sr.; daughter, Jessica McIntyre; 4 grandchildren, Weston McIntyre, Cassie Ricks, Dixie McIntyre, and Hank Wallace; mother, Sandra Nell Wicker; 3 sisters, Barbara Harris and husband, Chuck, Debra Lowe and husband, Boyd  and Cathy McIntyre and husband, Mitchell; and numerous nieces and nephews. FBC has scheduled some days for ministry projects.  These days will be for adults, youth, and children.  Without going to my calendar, I will say they will be in the next few months on the third Saturday of the month from 9 A.M. – Noon.  I would love to have some volunteers to help prepare for these meetings.  Let me know when you are available to work at the church for 2-3 hours.

 

 

Our mission in as Christians is to tell others about Jesus (Matthew 28:19-20).  Let’s do so in a way that is helpful and encouraging.

Demi Jane Drago has arrived.  She weighed 7 lbs. 6 oz. and was 21 inches long .  Shaw Marie Drago is the older sister.  Joey and Meghan Sharkey Drago are the blessed parents to these two daughters who are certainly gifts from God.

 

 

Linda Hornsby-Craddock is hospitalized in Brookhaven with a appendix issue.  Doctors are working to clear up infection so surgery can be done.  Pray for all to go well during this process.

 

 

George Bales’ surgery went well.  He is home recovering nicely.

 

 

 

Philip “Steve” Steven McMichael

April 24, 1982 – May 13, 2018
Steve, age 36, passed away on Sunday, May 13, 2018. He was a proud native of Hillsdale, LA and a resident of Amite, LA, who was passionate about being a Heavy Equipment Operator. Steve was a member of many Jeep Clubs and Cummins Clubs. Steve had a passion for anything that ran on diesel; whether it was his four wheel drives or heavy equipment, spending quality time with his wife cooking crawfish or anything outside was where he was often found. He had a love for the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Steve’s true love was his family and always put them first in everything he did. He would help anyone in need, always shared his huge heart with anyone around and was never seen without his beautiful smile, he never left without a big hug and always said he loved you before leaving. Steve was an incredible husband and father, loving brother and son, and remarkable person who will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his loving wife of 5 ½ years, “My Jenny” McMichael; son, Timothy Alan Humphries McMichael; daughter, Taylor Ann Humphries McMichael; parents, Philip Owens McMichael and Rhonda Harper McMichael; siblings, Rhonda “Michelle” McMichael Honeycutt and husband Jonathan, Matthew “Dewey” Owens McMichael, Aaron Ray McMichael, Joshua Caleb McMichael and wife Haley. He is also survived by his niece, Avery Ann Bellaci; godchild, Alexis Bromell; new puppy, Diesel; and many close friends and extended family.
Steve is preceded in death by his grandparents; and best friend and dog, Tank.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Brandon G. Thompson Funeral Home to assist the family with funeral expenses.

Pray for Chris Primes of Amite as he sees an oncologist about a possible cure for his health problem.  This is good news after being told his problem was not curable.

 

 

Nikki Newell is receiving long-awaited treatment.  Her new doctor diagnosed her problem quickly and began treatment.  The family is thankful for being led to the new physician.

 

 

Mary Lou “Ganny” Cutrer

October 02, 1935 – May 15, 2018

A resident of Greensburg, passed away on Tuesday, May 15, 2018. She was born October 2, 1935 in Liverpool and was 82 years of age. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Greensburg. She is survived by her daughter, MaryJo Cutrer, Greensburg; 2 sons, John “Buck” Cutrer, Jr., Colyell,  and Richard D. ‘Return to sender’: Casket proclaims life journey

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (BP) — Retired Southern Baptist missionary Patricia Stooksbury wanted everyone to know her life’s journey. She had it printed plainly on her pine shipping-crate-modeled casket.

“Return to Sender.” “To: Heaven thru Jesus Christ.” “This end up.” “Fragile.”

John Green, pastor of Wallace Memorial Baptist Church in Knoxville, Tenn., described the casket as unique and unlike anything he’d ever seen.

“I was so impressed because it was such an interesting way to share about her faith,” Green told Baptist Press today (May 9). “Everyone recognizes a shipping crate is sending you to another destination. That’s the story she was telling, even in her death — the story she was telling all throughout her life, which is that through faith in Christ we can have another home where we’ll spend eternity.”

Stooksbury, of Powell, Tenn., returned to her eternal home April 29 at age 70. Her journey was recounted and celebrated May 3 at Wallace Memorial Baptist Church, named in 1953 for William Wallace, a medical missionary to China for 17 years until his death at the hands of the communists in 1951.

At her funeral, the custom-built casket was front and center. By then, many friends and family members had signed the casket with well wishes.

“God speed.” “See you on the other side.” “Thank God for missionaries.”

The International Mission Board commissioned Stooksbury for the mission field in 1976. She spent more than 36 years spreading the Gospel, first as a Journeyman in Ecuador, then as a missionary to Costa Rica and Bolivia. She took medical leave in 2010, returning to the U.S. with pulmonary hypertension and stage 3 kidney failure.

She commissioned her casket in 2014 from Stevens Mortuary in Knoxville, the Knoxville News Sentinel wrote at the time.

“I think it’s appropriate for the occasion,” the News Sentinel quoted her as saying. “I want those at my funeral to notice my witness. I am going back to God, so I had them put ‘return to sender’ on top.

“On the sides, in English and Spanish, it says ‘To Heaven [thru] Jesus Christ,’ because it is because of Him and what He did that I can get there.”

Friends who spoke at her funeral, including her Knoxville pastor Mark Sasser, said she relished heaven.

“Here’s what I learned about Pat over the years that I’ve known her — she was ready to go,” said Sasser, pastor of Callahan Baptist Church. “She was ready to go. She had made her preparation.”

Stooksbury accepted her call to missions while a teenage member of Wallace Memorial Baptist, under the tutelage of former and longtime pastor Jim McCluskey. She joined Callahan Baptist after retiring from the mission field.

Retired Southern Baptist missionaries Carter and Charlotte Davis, longtime friends of Stooksbury, also noted her eagerness for heaven.

“Why isn’t the Lord calling me home?” she asked Carter Davis two months before her death, Davis said at the funeral. Davis didn’t know what to tell her, he said, other than God still had use for her on earth.

Bringing greetings from IMB to her survivors, Davis read from Ecclesiastes 7:1.

“A good name is better than fine perfume, and the day of death better than the day of birth (NIV),” Davis said. “That’s the way Patricia viewed death, something to behold and celebrate. Patricia, we love you and we miss you. We return you to sender.”

 

 

We may not have a homecoming to our country like the hostages did, but we can all have a sweet homecoming like Patricia Stooksbury!

Thank-you to David, and Brett and Susan Frazier for helping take our boys and girls to M-JAM at Tall Timbers Conference Center. Thanks to the parents who entrusted us with their children Friday and Saturday and for sending them to missions class on Wednesdays.  What a great week-end we had hearing about God’s calling on lives and missions on the home-front as well as internationally.  We all learned so much!  We came back extremely tired, but we are already making plans for next year.

Mr. James Walter Frazier has been faithful to check on us the last few years.  We think of him as a special friend.  He passed away yesterday.

November 01, 1947 – May 04, 2018

A resident of Kentwood passed away on Friday, May 4, 2018 at Southwest Regional Medical Center in McComb, MS at the age of 70. He was born November 1, 1947 in McComb, MS to James Walter Frazier, Sr. and Thelma Brumfield Frazier. He was a U. S. Air Force Veteran of Vietnam where he served as a jet mechanic.  He is survived by his loving wife, Patricia Frazier; daughters, Amy Fisher and Brenda Frazier; step-children, John Corkern, Sandra Hicks, Angie Desmond, Steve Bennett, and Renee Bennett and husband, Anthony; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.  Preceded in death by his parents, J. W. and Thelma Frazier; sister, Elizabeth “Libby” Perrin; and a niece, Elizabeth Perrin. Mrs. Bessie Hayden got her portable oxygen yesterday and called to say she will be at Bible study this morning.  How many other places could she have chosen to to go today, but the desire of her heart is to be at church studying God’s Word.  We’ll be glad to have her back.

 

 

Pray for Debi Bales as she has  tests today at Cypress Point.  Pray for medical answers.

 

 

M-JAM is tomorrow.  Pray for the hundreds of hearts to be open to God’s word and the message of telling others about Jesus.

I told you how wonderful the ladies’ meeting at Amite was going to be.   I’m sorry if you missed the meeting, because it was even better than our expectations.  I hope you have the opportunity to talk with someone who was there.

 

 

Today begins a new month.  Operation Christmas Child suggests you purchase hygiene items such as bars of soap, washcloths, toothbrushes, hairbrushes, body scrubbers, STICK deodorants, and combs during the month of May.  You can add these items to your shoeboxes or bring multiple of some of these items for us to send as fillers which can be added to boxes that are not completely full when our boxes get to Dallas.

 

 

Pray for the children and adults who will be attending M-JAM at the end of this week.

Let me update you on David.  He is feeling much better, eating like a horse, and has gained back six pounds so far.  Thank you for praying for him and asking about him.  He is regaining his strength and hopefully will be back to his usual size and activity level in a few more months.

Josiah Huckaby

Update: Josiah has continued to become more stable over the last 3 weeks and Urology has decided they want to move forward with his kidney surgery. It is scheduled for Monday, April 30th. We don’t have a specific time yet. This will be the last know surgery and it will be the longest one so far…taking about 3 hours. This is a huge praise because when we talked about this in December, the doctor was very hesitant about doing the surgery and she felt it was best to wait until we just couldn’t wait any longer. Now they are eager to get it done so that he won’t have to come back for surgery once he comes home. The nurse practioner seemed pleasantly surprised on Saturday when she was talking to us about his current vent settings. He is currently on an older model home vent which is bulky and makes mobility for him a little more difficult so our goal is to try to swap him to the newer home vent after surgery. They were hesitant about the idea a few weeks ago but now they are confindent with the future change. Josiah has been to playgroup twice now and hopefully we will get to go outside tomorrow for the first time ever (weather permitting). He loves his custom stroller and enjoys just sitting in it. He continues to make more talking noises over his trach. He has 6 teeth that I can see…his tongue stays in the way so he could have more.  He has finally started trying to roll to the left…he has always favored rolling to the right. And of course he’s always silly, smiling, and laughing! To God be the glory!!!

Eyvonne Ricks, a resident of Denham Springs, passed away on Monday, April 23, 2018 at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge. She was born August 20, 1935 in Kentwood and was 82 years of age. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Kentwood and IRA #84 Order of Eastern Star. She loved spending time with family and friends, scrap booking and putting puzzles together. She is survived by her 2 sons, Layton Ricks, Jr. and wife, Susan, Denham Springs, Ronnie Ricks and wife, Susan, Canton, MS; daughter, Judy Ricks Garcia and husband, Larry, Denham Springs; 11 grandchildren, Angela, April, Layci, Nancy and Brett, Rondi, Rob, Joel and Kristin, Heather, and Lucretia; and 14 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by the love of her live of 59 ½ years , Luther L. Ricks, Sr.; parents, George and Ada Lou Tidwell; sisters, Lillie Mae Easley and Norma D. Christopher; granddaughter, Jessica N.
