Wednesday

We remember before our God and Father your work produced by faith, your labor prompted by love, and your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.

~1 Thessalonians 1:3~

What a day with lots of memories yesterday (9/11) was.  May today be a day of preparation for people in the path of Hurricane Florence.  May families make wise decisions regarding the storm.  I clearly remember how life stopped it’s regular routine after Hurricane Katrina.

Pray for Baptist Disaster Relief teams as they get in place to begin hurricane relief.  Thank God for the many people who so freely give of themselves to help those in need.

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters,

~Colossians 3:23~

The annual Georgia Barnett Offering is the focus of missions in our churches each September.  I did not know about this page or these clips, but happened upon it this morning.  Three of them were made at FBC, Kentwood.  One was remotely made to include someone who spent their teen years at FBC, Kentwood.  Many of you will know several of these people who recognize the importance of missions in Louisiana.

https://georgiabarnette.org/

Let’s “THINK BIG”, Louisiana.  The difference is eternity!

Today, I encourage you to  spend some time learning about “Think Big” and the importance of missions in our church/churches.

Monday

Unless the LORD builds the house, the builders labor in vain.

Unless the LORD watches over the city, the guards stand watch in vain.

~Psalm 127:1~

Donna Fay Miller had cataract surgery Thursday and did well.  Pray for her as she has the surgery  on the other eye this Thursday.

Mrs. Ruby Dillon “graduated” from her home health services.  Thank God for the progress she has made.  Mr. “Cete” gets my vote for the best and most attentive caregiver!  I thank God we can call them our dear friends.

Pray for families with family members at Kentwood Manor Nursing Home.  It is in the process of closing the business in Kentwood and opening a new facility in the area near North Oaks.  Each family has big decisions to make about the care of their loved ones.  Pray for each family during this time.

Read the Bible – Reflect on God as “Protector” and catch up on any readings you missed this week.

Lord’s Day

This is what I have observed to be good: that it is appropriate for a person to eat, to drink and to find satisfaction in their toilsome labor under the sun during the few days of life God has given them—for this is their lot.

Georgia Barnett Offering for Louisiana Missions – https://georgiabarnette.org/fast-facts/

Most Baptists in our state are unaware of how important the Georgia Barnett Offering is in the work of Louisiana Baptist all during the year.  Spend some time on the site I just listed and learn more about our ministries because of this special offering.  One hundred percent of the money given through this offering goes to continue these ministries.  I know you will learn more by reading this site.  You will also know how important your giving is to these and other ministries.  Check the board by the piano to see how we are progressing with this offering.

Have a wonderful day.  Give part of this day to making this world a better place for others.

Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them.

Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?

Monday

I had trouble getting this to post earlier, so I trying again.

This is what the LORD says— your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel:

“I am the LORD your God, who teaches you what is best for you, who directs you in the way you should go.

~Isaiah 48:17 (NIV)~

Today, as we continue to pray for all the local needs, I would like to add two names of people some of you many not know.

  1. Carl Wayne Stevens is having more health issues.  He is living in northern Mississippi now.  Please pray for him and his family.
  2. Margie Wilkinson Cutrer is from Amite.  She is in Lakeview in Covington with some heart concerns.  Your prayers will be appreciated.

Operation Christmas Child is near to my heart because so many children learn about God and receive shoeboxes of toys.   It is only about seven weeks until collection week, but there is still time to buy games to share.

If you are at FBC, Kentwood and interested in packing shoeboxes, please see me before Sunday School or after church.  I have boxes and instructions as well as some items to start the packing process.

If you are in a school system and would like to get a class or club interested in this worthy project. let me know.  I can share with your group and show you some packed shoeboxes as examples.

September Item of the Month for OCC Shoeboxes ~ Games

Samaritan’s Purse has suggested items of the month for packing Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes, and for September that means games!  How fun!  Be sure to check your sending country regulations, because I think some countries due to specificrecipient countries have limits on traditional playing cards, dice, and/or dominoes, but from the USA all of those are find and I’ve sent them.

One thing I really like about games is that they can be shared, and bring people together.  Some of my fondest memories of time with extended family is around a game or puzzle.

Operation Christmas Child shared the following story on their Facebook page in 2013:
“My 11-yr-old stepson received a Christmas box. He received a lot of goodies and other presents. Among them was an UNO game. Every night, we gather for dinner and after that play UNO. What makes me happier is that my 22-yr-old daughter used to have dinner in her room, and barely shared with us. Thanks to the unknown donor, she comes out every evening, has dinner and playes with us. I pray for all of you, thank the Lord for people like you and especially bless that special person who maybe didn’t know that s/he was helping a family in Panama to get closer and pray together.”

I try to pick simpler games, ones that are common around the world, and/or ones that contain things I think would be easy to make up one’s own game for.  Often there are people at the distributions who can help the kids learn how to use them, but just in case not, I try to go simpler.

If you’re worried about how to fit a puzzle in your box without taking up too much room, check out my recent post: Fitting a puzzle in an OCC Go Shoebox.

If’ you’d like to craft a game, we have DIY instructions for a few different options:

Both of the tic-tac-toe DIY instructions, also have printable instructions on how to play to send with the game.

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
