Monday

You became imitators of us and of the Lord;

in spite of severe suffering,

you welcomed the message with the joy

given by the Holy Spirit.

And so you became a model to all the believers.

~ 1 Thessalonians 1:6-7 (NIV) ~

Dr. Earl Council is in Ruston to get some units of blood this morning.  Pray the doctors will soon determine the problem so it can be addressed.

Mrs. Kathrine Sanders has appointments scheduled for this week.  Pray for her and Alice Mary this week.

Caleb Estay was continuing to do well.  He may be able to go home real soon.  Pray for Landon and Alyshia as they care for him that they will have wisdom and confidence.

From Mrs. Ann Chapman

Dear Family and Friends,
Wanted to let you know the halo is gone…Praise God! I now have a neck brace on. I have to wear it 24/7, no removing. I will go back to the doctor in six weeks for an X-ray. The brace certainly feels better than the halo. The halo had a vest, lined with lamb’s wool, that went down to my waist. I now feel like I can fly, I feel so free and light. The brake is healing, but not well…please keep praying.
I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Love,
Ann

Continue to pray for Mrs Faye Price and her family.  Pray for energy to continue to face each hour of each day.

Pray for the sweet Morris family as they have the wake and celebration of Wayne’s life this morning at Kedron.  I thank God for allowing me to teach with Cora and to teach three of her four children.

Who's Missing? Whose Mission?
A church mobilized

When God’s people pray, the Gospel can penetrate difficult places. Just ask members of Beulah Baptist Church in Hopkins, S.C.

Beulah Baptist is a 200-year-old church that averages about 275 people each Sunday. In 2007, pastor Brad Bessent led the congregation to begin praying about partnering with the International Mission Board. They specifically prayed about adopting an unreached people group, those with an evangelical presence of less than 2 percent.

Through prayer the church recognized and answered God’s call to take responsibility for spreading the Gospel among the Bambara. The Bambara are a West African people group of 6 million — nearly all Muslim.

Working together with IMB missionaries Steve and Susan Roach, the church set its sights on a village of about 3,000 Bambara in Mali. There were no evangelical churches in the village and no known Christians.

Short-term missions teams from Beulah continued praying for the people and visiting their village every six weeks. They openly shared the Gospel with anyone willing to listen.

After nearly two years of prayer and 12 trips to the village, Beulah Baptist witnessed more than 100 Bambara come to faith in Christ.

“I’m convinced that God called every one of us to fulfill the Great Commission,” Bessent says.

“If we don’t get our churches mobilized, there are going to be millions of folks who continue to die and spend eternity in hell because nobody told them about Jesus.”

Pray
Pray for more churches to catch the vision of adopting an unreached people group and having a part in bringing them to Christ.

Dancing on tip-toe

The people of Central Asia love to dance.  The folk dances performed at celebrations and festivals can be really hard to do.  The men move with strong arm motions.  The women dance nimbly on tip-toe and look like they are floating across the stage. They look so graceful. They wear long dresses that hide the really fast movement of their feet.  Everyone dances in a circle, and then some women step into the circle and whirl around.  They all clap gently.

It’s a little like the way the Circassian (sir-KAY-shun) women of the North Caucasus* live every day.  They look graceful and calm on the surface, but they are working hard to provide for their families. One woman’s husband does almost nothing to support the family.  She has a disabled child. And she has some health problems too.

Several Christian women have made friends with her.  They pray for her and read the Bible with her. Would you pray for her too?  We call her M.  Pray that she will trust Jesus to help her with all of her problems. Pray for M to learn to love Jesus just like her friends do.

*The North Caucasus is just north of Georgia—not the state but the country!

Prayer Requests from Missionary Kids

Pray for “Gustavo”—he is a deaf man who is Paraguay’s first deaf Pastor.  He is also very poor.  He lives in the attic in the church.  But it is only 15 X 15 long and wide.  He has a deaf wife and a hearing pastor so please pray for his work and family.  Thank you.  ALYSE, age 11 (American peoples)

Please pray for T.  He is one of my friends.  Please also pray that kids in China will learn about Jesus.  AIDEN, age 8 (East Asian peoples)

You can be a part by praying, giving, and going.

Have a great day preparing for the Lord’s Day.

Looks

ajesus.jpgTHE BIBLE DOES describe the physical appearance of many people…

Moses was said to be a beautiful child. People spoke of King Saul as being handsome, standing a head taller than anyone in Israel. David and Solomon were both “ruddy,” handsome men.

But what of Jesus?

Nothing. Zilch. Zero. Not a word about a regal nose, handsome visage, or muscular body. In fact, the Bible tells us virtually nothing about Jesus’ looks. Only that he “has no form or comeliness; and when we see Him, there is no beauty that we should desire Him” ( Isa. 53:2 NKJV).

From those words we might presume Jesus wasn’t handsome, at least not in the way modern artists portray Him. Apparently, in the mind of God, this was a nonissue. Jesus’ words and character and love drew people to Him, not His dashing good looks. (Mark Littleton)

THOUGHT: We probably put too much emphasis on a person’s outside.

KneEmail: But the LORD said to Samuel, “Do not look at his appearance or at his physical stature, because I have refused him. For the LORD does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart” ( 1 Sam. 16:7; cf. v. 12).

“At the name of Jesus every knee should bow…” Philippians 2:10
Mike Benson, Editor

IN AUGUST, 1857, CYRUS Field and his company, Atlantic Telegraph, attempted to lay a telegraph cable from England to North America, but the cable broke at twelve thousand feet under the ocean surface and could not be recovered…
During the next nine years, Field and his men made three more unsuccessful attempts.  Finally, in July, 1866, they succeeded in laying hundreds of miles of cable across the Atlantic.

Israel spent almost twenty-one years rebuilding the temple.  The work began in 537 B.C. and was finally completed in 516 B.C.  Israel’s enemies continually stopped the work; one period lasted as long as seventeen years.  People of less perseverence might have given up, but Israel had a deep desire to worship God.
Paul wrote about Christ’s patience, or, more exactly, His perseverance.  We may not understand why the Lord demonstrated patient determination in His humanity, but we are to follow His pattern.

“May the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God
and into the patience of Christ.”
2 Thessalonians 3:5

Spirit

evita-photos2.jpgDR. PEDRO ARA Sarria perfected a technique for preserving the body and applied it to Argentina’s Eva Peron…

The embalmed body was kept intact but, for political reasons, was moved from place to place. It went from his laboratory in Buenos Aries to a military camp, to a dusty storeroom in Bonn, Germany, to a secret grave in Milan, Italy, to an attic in Madrid, back to a chapel in Argentina, and finally to a family tomb.

What happens to our bodies after we die may not be very important. What happens to the spirit is very important. Whether our bodies are buried, cremated, lost in an explosion, or buried at sea, it makes no difference. The real concern is that the soul be at home with God.

“And many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, some to shame and everlasting contempt” ( Daniel 12:2).

Dr.s believe the icp is as stable as it can get, are now beginning to peel off the layers of deep sedation she is under. Predicting it will take a week. Thx for your prayers as always and please continue!

Tuesday, July 28, 2009 5:02 PM, CDT

Maggie Lee has been doing pretty well today.  She seems to be adjusting to her body temperature coming up closer to normal and to the decrease in the aggressive treatment of her ICP.  We remain confident in the care and minute-by-minute attention she is getting from the extraordinary staff of doctors and nurses.  More than that, we remain confident in the One who gives them skill and wisdom for such a time as this.

How to pray right now:

  • pray for to adjust to the “peeling back” of some of the layers of sedation
  • pray in thanks for her good blood pressure today
  • you can continue to pray for her brain pressure to be at a safe level

I’m still praying with Jairus, looking for Jesus to lay hands on our daughter for healing and life.

Jacket

abjacket.jpgIN 1995, OUTSIDE THE Bulgarian Embassy in Washington, D.C., the son of a former embassy employee lost his life…

Walking with his friends, he was confronted by muggers. Apparently, however, his murder could have been avoided. The thieves only wanted his jacket, but he resisted and fought until one of the agitated criminals killed him.

I wonder what was so special about that jacket? What made it worth a human life to its owner–its age, design, brand, or material? Why didn’t he just give it up? It seems to have meant too much to him.

Lots wife gave up her life for a single glance back at Sodom.
Korah gave up his life for a run at power.
Achan gave up his life for a few items of clothing and a little wealth.
Samson gave up his life for relief from the nagging of a wicked woman.
Absalom gave up his life for a seat on a throne.
Abab gave up his life for a grape vineyard.
Haman gave up his life for a bow from Mordecai.
Judas gave us his life for approximately $30.
Ananias and Sapphira gave up their lives for an infinitesimal percent of the world’s riches.

Abmark.jpgMARK WELLMAN GAINED national attention in the summer of 1989 by climbing the sheer face of El Capitan in Yosemite National Park…

The face that Mark climed is not the remarkable part, but the fact that he did so being a paraplegic. Mark climbed for seven days with the help of his close friend, Mike Corbett. Mike would hold while Mark would pull himself up the granite face.

These two men shared a depth of friendship that is hard to find in our world today.
