Many of you remember Bobbie and Susie Eads serving at FBC,K.  Susie’s mother had been through a lot of trials in her lifetime and is now facing another one.  She has had a “silent heartattack”.  Pray for her as she goes through additional testing and insurance requirements before learning what needs to be done for her heart.

Sonja Bradley’s daughter, Milicent, is handicapped.  Her body is slowly giving up the fight to live.  Pray for all the family.

Continue to pray for Betty Taylor and others who have a “bug” this week.  Pray for a timely recovery.

Mrs. Yvonne Birch‘s back surgery went well yesterday.  She should be in rehab by the end of the week.  Keep her on your prayer list.

Mrs. Annie Bell Harrell continues to be hospitalized in Greensburg.  Pray for her and for her hospital caregiver, Phylis.  Pray for Mr. Phillip who is at home.

Smiley Conerly continues to improve, but the pain is still there.  Pray it will be lessened as he does more therapy.

Ray Blackwell is in week two of treatment.  Pray for him as the side-effects are beginning to show up.

Pray for Peggy Buberette, Ladd Turner’s mother-in-law, as she begins to learn how her tumors will be treated.

Andy Taylor’s sister, Cindy Juban, has completed her first visit to M.D. Anderson.  She learned of several options for her, all positive.  The best news is that the doctors think she will recover the vision she has lost.

Operation Christmas Child – It’s time to fill the shoe boxes for children who might not otherwise receive gifts for Christmas.  You can pick up information Sunday at FBC, K.

I hope this cooler weather will cause some of us to check out the winter clothing we have and donate what we can in the line of jackets, sweaters, sweats, mittens, scarves, and hats.  You can drop your items off at FBC,K at either the office entrance or the main entrance.

The youth of FBC, K will have a jambalaya fundraiser after morning worship Sunday.  Your donations will help fund winter trips for our youth.

There will be a Family Fun Night Saturday, November 2nd from 6:30-8:30.

I hope you feel refreshed by the weather today and doing something special for someone else.

It seems the number of hurting families grow daily.  It breaks my heart.  Pray for those that you are aware of and those that you may not be aware of.

Baby Graham, in New Orleans, is improving.  It seems each day this baby shows the world what God can do!

Connor Corkern‘s seizures are better and he doesn’t have pneumonia.  That the answer to two prayers!

Pat Hoosier and his family need to be in our prayers.  The family has bravely and aggressively fought the battle on every front!

Pray for Marty Simpson and his family as he has and angiogram and possibly surgery today in Lacomb.

Pray for Yvonne Birch and her family as she has surgery at OLOL in Baton Rouge.

The monthly breakfast at Pine Ridge United Methodist Church will benefit the family of Tommy and Jessica Garner.  I hope to see you there at 8:00 this Sunday.

Pray for Wanda Smith as she goes to the doctor to check on her foot.  Wanda doesn’t feel like it is healing as it should.

Mrs. Annie Bell Harrell has been diagnosed with a broken pelvis.  Pray for her and her family at this difficult time.

Robbie Lynn Kirby is improving, even though the side effects are hard on her.  Her doctor performed a great surgery.  She did not need chemo or radiation.  She has lost 70 pounds and much of her hair.  She needs to rest most of this first year.  Pray for her as she continues to fight this battle.  Pray for her family as they support her any way they can.  She has a positive attitude through all of this!

Mr. George Eddie Lee and Mrs. Alice Faye are proud to announce the birth of their first great grandchild, a great grandson, Brooks Eli Wilkinson, on his birthday.  Brooks was born yesterday evening weighing in at 8 lb, 10 oz. and with a length of 22 in.  Proud parents are Jacob and Hannah Wilkinson.  The grandparents are Lee and Debbie Wilkinson and Don and Angela Shockley.  Let’s all thank God for the arrival of this special blessing.

Rafe Cutrer, son of Raymond and Brandy Cutrer, is pleased to report that the new baby in the family will be a girl.  What a blessing!

Mr. Bob Stegall passed away and will be buried in Mississippi.  If you need details of the arrangements, please call FBC, Kentwood (229-8111).

Baby Graham continues to improve and may get to go home soon.  Continue to pray for Graham as he gets checked out closely.  Pray for the family who have been at the hospital for eleven days now.

Penny Dees McDowell is slowly showing signs of improvement.  Pray she continues to change in a positive direction.  Pray for her family as they continue to help watch over her at North Oaks.

Continue to pray for Tommy and Jessica Garner as she battles cancer.  Pray for the couple’s four children ages 6 months through 8th grade.  Add the children’s grandparents to the list too.

Pray for Yvonne Birch as he has back surgery Wednesday at OLOL in Baton Rouge.  She is expecting to be in the hospital until the weekend.

Pray for Marty Simpson who will be having an angiogram and possibly stents Wednesday at the heart hospital in Lacombe.  Pray for his family as they help care.

A resident of Amite, died at 2:47 a.m. on Sunday, October 20, 2013 at her home. She was born April 13, 1953 in Lubbock, TX and was 60 years of age. She was a retired nurse and a Past Worthy Matron of OES #247, Order of Eastern Star. She is survived by her husband, Randy Wallace, Sr., Amite; 2 daughters, Wendy Carrier and husband, Herman, Amite and Stacey Austin, Franklinton; son, Randy Wallace, Jr., Amite; 6 grandchildren, Blake Carrier, DeStanie Austin, Heidi Carrier, Katie Austin, Corrin Wallace and Reagan Wallace; 2 brothers, Corey Phelps, Amite and Lance Populis, New Orleans; mother, Patsy Tate, Amite; step-father, Denver Populis. Preceded in death by father, Clayton Phelps; step-father, Hillary Breed Tate. Visitation at Landmark Missionary Baptist Church from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m. on Monday and from 10 a.m. until religious services at 12 Noon on Tuesday, October 22, 2013. Services conducted by Bro. I saw Mrs. Elsie Davis is Amite.  She asked for prayer for her daughter-in-law, Connie Hayden Davis, who was injured in a traffic accident in Texas a couple days ago.  Connie is the daughter of Horace and Margarete Hayden also of this area.  “Miss” Elsie said Connie has critical injuries.  Connie is the mother of four children.  Join the families as they pray.

Dr. David Crosby is pastor of FBC, New Orleans.  His young grandson, Graham Deris, is hospitalized there due to an accident that threatened  his life.  Thanks to many who helped, this child will be going home from PICU at Ochsner in the near future.  You can watch the video or read the transcript on this channel 6 site.

I didn’t give you a report of the Third Thursday meeting or the “Lucy” Bible study.  Thursday we were blessed with five new people with a total representation from ten different churches.   Numbers are not important, but the spirit of Christian love and fellowship is!  We have been so blessed t0 be able to host these meeting for so many years.  We are looking forward to what God is going to do in the future. James Rimes and Andy Taylor used their musical talents to “speak” to us. How blessed we all were as we were surrounded by a sweet spirit of Christian love.

The “Lucy” Bible study Friday was number eight.  It was on Devotion.  Several people thought it was one of the best so far.  We ended with a brown bag lunch and sweet sharing.  We will be meeting again next Friday to study Outreach.  The topics the following weeks will be Happiness, Boasts, and Likeness.  Line Creek will be beginning the “Lucy” study Wednesday night.  If you would like to join them, contact a member of Line Creek for the time and room location.

 

Don’t forget to do your part to support the Georgia Barnette Offering for mission work in Louisiana.  There are people around us here, just like around the world, that need to have a relationship with God.  Let’s support this offering for work in Louisiana.

 

Jackets and other winter clothing for men, women, boys, and girls is being collected at FBC, Kentwood.  Also, items for the Friendship House in New Orleans – small deodorants,  cases of bottled water or fruit juice, etc.  Contact the church office for a list.

Elaine Baham Steward is doing better.  Pray for her as she continues her battle with cancer.

Pray for Hubert “Brother” Yarborough as he has surgery Nov. 4th.  Pray for his family too.

Marty Simpson will be having an angiogram in Lacombe Wednesday.  Pray the doctor finds and corrects Marty’s problem.

Penny Dees McDowell’s sedation is being reduced.  Pray for her as she deals with each medical issue of each day.  Pray for her family.

Mrs. Hazel Smith has been ‘under the weather”.  Pray for her to be better soon.

 

E. Fountain Young, Jr.
(September 9, 1928 – October 12, 2013)

E. Fountain Young, Jr. began his earthly journey on September 9, 1928 and his heavenly one 85 years later on October 12, 2013. He grew up in Pine Grove, Louisiana and was an active member of the Pine Grove United Methodist Church along with his parents, Evie Fountain Young, Sr. and Inez Morgan Young. In 1945 Fountain graduated valedictorian from Pine Grove High School and then set out to serve in the United States Army and did so from 1946 to 1948, spending time in Japan. He observed that there was a close alliance between freedom and education, and to that end he attended Louisiana State University where he earned a BS in General Agriculture in 1951 and a Master of Science in Agronomy in 1953. He received a Ph.D. in Agriculture and Applied Science from Oklahoma State University in 1964. His studies took him to Venezuela where he worked on herbicides for corn production. He also believed that one could find dignity in work well done. He devoted himself to plant research that he accomplished through the United States Department of Agriculture. In 1985 he co-authored a book with Tommy E. Thompson, Pecan Cultivars, Past and Present, a widely used field guide for growing pecans. He also did research that led to the successful production of SuPima cotton. Mr. Young was a Master Mason as well as a Shriner. He was an active member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church in El Paso, Texas before his recent move to Monroe, Michigan. Fountain’s most cherished accomplishment was his family, whom he adored. He lives on in the hearts of those who love him including his wife of 56 years, Sarah Margaret Davis Young, a daughter, Kathryn Elaine Murphy (Mark) and sons Eric Forrest Young (Catherine), Brett Allen Young (Pam), and grandchildren, Bryan Murphy (Jennifer), Megan Murphy, Jennifer Murphy, Morgan Murphy, Sarah Young, and Alysa Young, and one great grandchild, Sophia Murphy, along with his siblings, Willie Eugene Young (Mary Katherine), Elizabeth Joe Dykes (Tag), and Robert Larry Young (Judy). Friends and family will wish him a fond farewell on Saturday, October 19, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at Pine Grove United Methodist Church, Pine Grove, LA with visitation beginning at 9:30 a.m. Services conducted by Rev. Michael Townsend. Interment will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery. McKneely Funeral Home, Amite, is in charge of the arrangements. Memorials for E. George Bales told us last night that David Bales got an “all clear report”.  He will be carefully monitored for five years.

 

Austin Rose was able to participate in a high school band concert.  He is feeling stronger and is still very determined to fight his battle with cancer. Continue to pray for him and his family.

 

Bethel Baptist Church will be having revival Sunday through Wednesday.  Rev. Larry Blades will be the revival preacher and music by Tero Family Ministries.  Sunday’s worship services will begin at 11:00 and 5:00.  Monday through Wednesday, the services will begin at 6:30.  You are invited to join them.

 

The 205th Engineering Battalion will be coming home soon.  Be sure to thank those who have served and the families who have adapted to living without their loved one(s) for a year.

Penny McDowell is off the vent!  Pray she doesn’t have an anxiety attack and have to go back to the vent.  Pray for healing.  She’s still in ICU.

Sherry Day is home and glad to be there.  Pray for continued healing for her.
