Update on Josiah Huckaby written by KK last night

Update: Josiah has been doing great! It’s hard to believe he has been in the hospital for 394 days and that he will be 13 months old on Sunday. They have been able to wean his vent settings and his oxygen since getting him back to his regular dose of steroids & Lasix. We have had some HUGE praises this week. He had an echo on Tuesday & it showed his pulmonary hypertension pressures have gone from mild-moderate to normal-slightly elevated. He’s never had an echo show pressures below mild. He also got a new type of trach called a FlexTend, which is a lot more flexible & will help him be able to be more mobile. The plan is to try to swap him back to the home vent on Monday. His little personality continues to blossom…he is so silly, always laughing at anything & everything. He is now getting tastes of baby food from a spoon. He likes to help hold the spoon like a big boy & he started “chewing” his baby food this past week. It’s so sweet watching him. It amazes me how God instills things in us so that we naturally know how to do some things…no one taught him how to “chew”. 😊 We are currently working on learning some signs & learning how to clap. He has 3 teeth coming in on the top. He loves to watch us blow bubbles & then cackles after they have all popped. He is still a TV junky. Some of the IMCU staff have given him the nickname “Hoss” because he’s such a big boy. 😂 God is so good and we are so blessed to have such an amazing little man!!!

 

 

 

Hope Rene Threeton Owens passed away on Easter Sunday, April 1,2018, at the age of 53. She was born on Tuesday, November 17, 1964 in New Orleans, Louisiana. Hope was a resident of Petal, Mississippi. She had a lifelong love of dance and music and even kept all of her mom’s Elvis records after she got married and moved off. Hope started dancing around age 9 and was a member of the Ponchatoula Wavettes her junior year. She especially enjoyed watching any show on TV that involved dancing, such as “So You Think You Can Dance” and “Dancing With The Stars” and would watch these shows over and over again.

Hope is survived by her husband, John Owens; parents, Len and Marie Rodriguez; sister, Tina Rodriguez; brothers, Rodney Rodriguez and Henry Threeton; mother-in-law, Gayle Owens; and sister-in-law, Donna Owens; and last but not least, her faithful companion, Dakota (Pom).

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Freddie and Maudie Bazile; grandparents, Henry and Mary Threeton; grandfather, A.J. Rodriguez; father-in-law, Ralph Owens Sr. (Ole Man); brother-in-law, Ralph Owens Jr.; nephew, John Lewis Brooke; and Lawless Threeton.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Service at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home – Ponchatoula , 100 W. Magnolia St., Ponchatoula, Louisiana 70454 (985-345-5801), on Monday, April 9, 2018 at 10:00 am. Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 8, 2018, 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm & Monday, April 9, 2018, 8:00 am – 10:00 am.

Interment will follow in Parklawn Memorial Gardens, Hammond, La.

It was good to see Mrs. Bessie Hayden back at church last night.  She has a fancy scooter to use on her new wheelchair ramp.

 

 

Mr. Bobby Simpson also has a scooter to help him get around.  He continues to improve.  Pray for Betty as she takes good care of him.

 

 

James Rimes was very excited to tell us Susan Rimes‘ doctor has found the medication she needed for her tremors.  Just a few doses and her hands are calm.  Thank God they found the doctor who found the right medication to solve her problem.

 

 

Mr. Ed Magee fell at home Saturday and is bruised up, but thankfully has no broken bones.

 

 

Buddy Waller learned that his tumor has grown a little.  Please pray for him and for his doctors.

 

 

Martha Griffith is having some leg issues which are causing falls.  Pray her doctors can solve this problem.  Pray Martha doesn’t break any bones.

 

 

Timmy Schwartz has a ruptured appendix and will be having surgery at North Oaks at 9:00 this morning.  Pray for a successful surgery.

 

 

FBC, Kentwood will be celebrating 125 years on Sunday, April 29th.  Bro. JP Miles will be our guest preacher for that celebration.  You are invited to participate in our service.

Mrs. Ruby Dillon has been fighting an infection all week.  She is better now.  Thank God for her progress.

 

 

Yvonne Birch called yesterday to share her good news.  The surgeon said open heart surgery is not needed now.  In August, he will re-evaluate her situation.  Thanking God for all the prayers for Yvonne and her family.

 

 

Scott Womack will be having open heart surgery today in Covington.  Please pray for the surgeon as he works with Scott.  Pray for Scott’s family as they wait.  Pray for Scott who is ready to get this done and behind him.

 

 

I thank God for the peace He has given Yvonne and Scott as they have faced their heart problems.

 

 

David will be seeing a surgeon April 9th to determine if gall bladder surgery is needed.  Please pray for this decision.

Mr. John Alan Blackwell fell at a nursing home yesterday and broke his hip.  He was taken to North Oaks.  Please pray for Mr. John Alan.

 

 

Yvonne Birch was able to attend the special Easter musical service at FBC, Kentwood last night.  She had planned to sing with them until she had surgery last week.  Let’s thank God she was feeling well enough to be there.

 

 

Tom Brister is still hospitalized following his surgery Saturday morning.  All seems to be going well.  Keep praying for Tom and his family.

  • Bobby Simpson is having long therapy times each day and progressing.  Later, he will have outpatient therapy in Hammond and then in Greensburg.  Pray for him and for Betty and other family members.
  • Tom Brister‘s second procedure went well.  He is resting and trying to be still now.  Thank you for praying for him.
  • Bessie Hayden is home.  She seems to be doing okay in her battle with diabetes.  Keep praying.
  • Several of our oldest friends are experiencing health concerns now.  Please pray for sweet friends facing these problems and their family members.

Pray for Tom Brister as he has another procedure to stop a brain bleed.  His first procedure went well.  Let’s pray the second one, today, does as well.

 

 

Please say special prayers for Mr. Phillip Harrell and his family, especially for “Miss” Annie Bell and for their children.  Mr. Phillip is back in Stoney Point.

 

 

Continue to pray for Yvonne Birch as she recovers from her procedure in Covington.

 

 

Pray for the family of Gail M. Smith as they lay her to rest today and the family of Mr. I.W. Simmons as his services will be held in a few days.   Pray for both their many friends too as well as the Line Creek community.

Josiah Huckaby (Written by K.K.)

Update: So Josiah had a bit of a rough night/morning (I guess he partied too hard for World Down Syndrome Day yesterday). He spiked a fever & his heart was pretty high. They have gotten some cultures & started antibiotics to be safe. He was very restless when I got there this morning so they started a mild sedation drip to prevent a pulmonary hypertension crisis from stress. They will probably start to wean that tomorrow…he just needed some good rest so his body can bounce back from this little sickness. Also, we had a care conference today to discuss our plan for coming home. We were kind of caught off guard with some of the info we got today. So here is an abbreviated version of what is going on…they started trying to wean his steroids & Lasix (he never likes this by the way) which sent him taking steps backwards. After the doctors met today they decided that wasn’t the best idea. So he will go back to his normal doses on both of those meds & will be back on the hospital vent for a week or 2 while he gets back to where he was before they started messing with those meds. Then he will be put back on the home vent for an extended amount of time. This brought up the fact that they don’t anticipate us coming home soon like we originally thought. The IMCU doctor anticipates an extended stay for now because they don’t feel his lungs are stable enough for discharge & they want us to have plenty of “play” room on the vent for when he gets sick at home. So we are again back to just waiting with no estimated discharge date. We know we serve a mighty God and He can change this at any minute! We just continue to praise Him for how far He has brought Josiah and for the parents He is molding us into. To God be the glory!!!

A resident of Amite passed away on Thursday, March 22, 2018, at St. Helena Parish Nursing Home in Greensburg. She was born May 28, 1939, in Head of Island and was 78 years of age. She is survived by her 4 daughters, Kitty Newell and husband, Kevin, Kristy Cothern and husband, Dennis, Kelly Milton Quinn and husband, Greg, and Karley Cooper and husband, Aubrey Dale; son, Butch Robertson and wife, Paige; 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; brother, Ronald Aime and wife, Peggy; 2 sisters, Gloria Berthelot and husband, Howard, and Eva Mae Bourgeois and husband, Frankie. Preceded in death by husband, Tex Robertson; parents, Peter and Estelle Aime; and granddaughter, Amy Aline Newell. Aegean Turks of Turkey

(uh-JEE-an) – A young, newly married couple has been joining a believing couple in their time of worship and reading the Word. The young husband has been professing faith in Jesus and wants to be baptized. The young wife has been attending with her husband from the beginning. She is very open and has mentioned feeling different. She usually reads with the others and will join in during their times of prayer. Not long ago while out at a cafe, she said that she wants to believe! She is very busy with a new job right now and wants to spend time reading and thoroughly understand exactly what she believes before she identifies herself as a follower of Jesus. Praise God for what he is doing in her heart! Would you pray for this young couple? The believers long to see another believing couple in their city.

Albanian Ghegs of Southern Europe

(al-BAY-nee-uhn gegs) – Across southern Europe, Albanian communities are primarily patriarchal. Men lead in the religious communities, the political arena, and most importantly, in the home. Workers among the Albanians believe that the greatest impact to be had for Christ will be through the salvation of these family leaders. When the head of a household comes to faith, he can stand up for and protect his family, allowing them to easily make decisions for Christ. Furthermore, he may stand up as a strong voice in his community that is less likely to be drowned out. Pray for such men to rise up in their communities and to find a deep faith that perseveres through trial, paving the way for many others to turn to Christ.

Dakar, Senegal

(dah-KAR) – Life in Senegal is difficult, and people are looking for solutions, anything to make their day-to-day lives easier. They long to reduce illness, to protect their children and themselves from evil spirits and curses, to find employment, to have food for the family, to be able to afford an apartment, and to have water and electricity. Into this milieu step the “fake gospel” people, promising health and wealth. False teachers are hard at work, spreading a “fake gospel” among people who have no idea what the true gospel is. One worker was asked to speak to a group of widows. However, before she was given the floor, a surprise guest speaker arrived amid much ado. Her behavior was like that of arriving royalty. And then she spoke. She told the women, among other things, that if they had enough faith and prayed hard enough and had positive thoughts, their problems would disappear. Then the surprise guest speaker began praying, along with many who joined in. It was a chaos of tongues. Following that morass, the worker was given the floor and presented the true gospel. The whole scene seemed reminiscent of John 6:24-26. Pray that thousands in Senegal will hear the true gospel and desire the Bread of Life, and not be deceived by “fake gospel” teachers. Pray for discernment among new believers so they will not be deceived by the lure of promises from these charlatans.

 

 

 

Pine Ridge United Methodist Church has a monthly breakfast benefit to help with a need a  family in this area has.  They will be serving a delicious buffet of food at 8 A.M. in a friendly atmosphere.  After breakfast, you can have morning worship with them or attend your own church.

 

 

FBC, Kentwood will present their Easter cantata Sunday evening at 6 P.M.  You are invited to join in this worship service.  Other area churches will be having special Easter programs the next two weeks, but I don’t have details to share.  Check with church offices or church members to learn dates and times.

Gail Miller Smith

September 13, 1941 – March 10, 2018
Gail Miller Smith was born September 13, 1941 in McComb, MS, and was the daughter of the late Alton and Anna Belle Morris of Kentwood, LA. She was a long-time resident of the Kentwood, LA and Osyka, MS areas for many years; she passed away on March 10, 2018 in Collierville, TN. She made her home in nearby Germantown, TN with her daughter and family. She was a graduate of Kentwood High School and attended Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond, LA. She and her best friend, Mary Morgan, had a successful cleaning business for 25 years, serving clients in Louisiana and Mississippi. She was a member of Germantown United Methodist Church where she enjoyed her Women’s Bible Sunday School class and was a teacher. She was also a member of Team Read mentoring program at Caldwell-Guthrie Elementary School. In addition to her parents, Ms. Smith was predeceased by her husband and father of her children, Fleet Nelson Miller, Jr., and also by her husband, Guy E. Smith; also by her sister, Mary Ann Graham. She is survived by her children, Melanie Miller Downer of Natchez, MS; Eddie Nelson Miller and wife, Destini, of Amite, LA; and Robin Miller Jordan and husband, Patrick, of Germantown, TN; brother, William Alton Morris and wife, Velta, of Lancaster, SC; step-daughters, Tracy Smith Stanton and husband, Sean, of Denham Springs, LA and Christy Smith Loflin and husband, Tommy, Baton Rouge, LA; grandchildren, Caroline Madison Downer, Miller Dalton Downer, Darby Blanche Miller, Reed Nelson Miller, Tess Elizabeth Miller; Melanie Clare Jordan, Colin Patrick Jordan and William Connor Jordan; step-grandchildren, Christian Stanton, Sydney Stanton, Emma Grace Stanton, Reese Loflin, Jackson Guy Loflin, Sampson Kyle Henshaw and Julia Elizabeth Bubrig; and numerous nieces and nephews. A celebration of life service was held at Germantown United Methodist Church on Friday, March 16 for the Memphis/Germantown friends and family. Her celebration of life at home will be held at Line Creek Baptist Church, Kentwood, LA, on Saturday, March 24, 2018. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m., followed by the service at 11 a.m. Interment will be private at Woodland Cemetery in Kentwood, LA.
