Jadon’s Story

My computer is broken so that’s why I haven’t updated this week. I’m
sorry to have to say this but we are weaning me from the ketogenic
diet. I was having about 90 seizures a day before the diet. Each time
we went up on the ratio my seizures got worse. I was having over 200
spasms a day. We spoke with our doctors in Boston and new Orleans.
They both suggested that we wean the diet. Boston said it’s uncommon
for this to happen but that they have had several children that had to
stop the diet for that reason. You know I always do the opposite of
what I’m suppose to. So now what? We don’t know. Once I’m completely
off the diet we will decide. Please continue to pray for me. We are
very upset that the diet wasn’t our answer. My seizures are better
today. I’ve stayed around 100. Wow I never thought I would say 100 is
better. Ugh I hate seizures. I don’t understand how I’ve been fighting
these for 1 year and still have little control. We are just trying to
stay positive right now and praying that God will lead us to the next
step in my journey.

From Justin Kennedy’s mon, Edna

“Justin is staying next to the medical facility for a few days. He has a concussion, a hurt left leg (but can walk on it), and other scrapes, abrasions and bruising. The other 4 guys are injured. Justin was the least serious. God truely was watching over them all. Justin will stay there for a few more days and they will do some physical therapy on his leg.”

FRUGAL ME?

Mary’s fourth grade homework assignment was to make sentences using the words in her spelling list, along with the definition. Coming across the word “frugal” in the list, she asked her father what it meant. He explained that being frugal meant you saved something.

Her paper read:

Frugal: to save

Sentence:  Maid Marion fell into a pit when she went walking in the woods so she yelled for someone to come get her out.  She yelled “Frugal me, Frugal me!”

It’s easy see how a fourth grader could confuse the words, but while the word “frugal” and the idea of saving are closely related, they are miles apart when it comes to Christianity.  The New Testament speaks often of our reconciliation with God as “salvation”.  Jesus himself said:

“For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.” (Luke 19:10)

But God was far from frugal in His efforts to save us.  Centuries of preparation, the sacrifice of His only Son, the heartache of being rejected, God’s patience in waiting for us to respond — there was nothing frugal in any of it.  Quite the contrary, God lavishly poured out all that He had in the hopes of saving us.  “Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift!” (2 Cor. 9:15)

Praise be to God both for His willingness to save us and His unwillingness to be frugal about it!

Thought For The Day: An Amazing Love by Alan Smith

Here is the entire text of a love letter intercepted by a second grade schoolteacher, passed on to a parent:

“Dear Billy, if you don’t say you love me and walk to the bus stop with me I will kill myself and beet you up. I love you and wan to marry you soon. Suzy”

The little girl was eight at the time. The parent showed the preacher the letter at the rehearsal dinner the day before Suzy married Billy. Suzy was twenty-four. During the wedding service, he shared the letter with the guests, and in her vows, had Suzy repeat these words: “I, Suzy, promise you, Billy, never to kill myself or beat you up.”

He later said, “If the marriage lasts as long as her love, and her love is as large as the laughter in the ceremony, the odds are good for a happy ever after.”

We’ll do some amazing things in the name of love, won’t we? And the deeper our love, the more extreme our willingness is. That’s why a mother is willing to stay up all night tending to a sick child. It’s why a godly husband will sacrifice all that he holds dear to care for his wife (Eph. 5:25-28). And, in the most extreme example, it’s why Jesus Christ was willing to give up his very life for us when we least deserved it.

“Look at it this way: At the right time, while we were still helpless, Christ died for ungodly people. Finding someone who would die for a godly person is rare. Maybe someone would have the courage to die for a good person. Christ died for us while we were still sinners. This demonstrates God’s love for us.” (Romans 5:6-8, GOD’S WORD)

May God’s example of love motivate us to have a stronger love in our marriages, our families, our churches and all of our other relationships.

–Alan

Jadon’s Story

I hope everyone had a great Christmas. I sure did. It was definitely much better than last year. Last year my brother and I were both in the hospital with RSV and my brother had pneumonia so this Christmas was much better. I went to my Mar and Paw’s house Christmas eve. After we opened presents and ate we went to Paw Paw Ike’s house. I even watched fire works. Can you believe I liked these? They are so loud and I was laughing and having a great time. I left a picture of me watching the fireworks. The other pictures are of Christmas morning. I love my new car and I liked the paper the best. After we had Christmas at our house we went to Aunt Rae Rae’s house in New Orleans. Uncle Michael cooked lunch for us and we got to see my Mimi and her side of the family. It was really a great Christmas. Now on to my seizures. We have noticed a little decrease. I’m having about 100 seizures a day. Yesterday morning I woke up and only had 32 by lunch. Well after lunch I had a cluster of 60. Yes VERY upsetting and disappointing. Today I’ve already had about 40 and it’s only 8:00. My seizures are so unpredictable and so random. We have done nothing different the last two days but my seizures are so different. Basically we celebrated me only have 32 yesterday morning and then the disappointment but we will celebrate the good times even if it’s followed by disappointment. I got my new meals from Boston and feeding time is much easier. I now each a meat and then a baby food vegetable or fruit. I love eating them and the portion size is much better. We so wish we would have been able to do this two months ago. I also got my new stuff from my herbologist. I started it yesterday so I will let you know how I do on the new stuff. I have gotten the ok from our dietitian to use these supplements so we know they are not messing up the diet. I gotta go because I have blood work today to make sure my carbon dioxide level is better. I will update you very soon. Thanks for praying for me!!!

WHAT DO YOU HEAR?

A Native American and his friend were in downtown New York City, walking near Times Square in Manhattan.  It was during the noon lunch hour and the streets were filled with people.  Cars were honking their horns, taxicabs were squealing around corners, sirens were wailing, and the sounds of the city were almost deafening.  Suddenly, the Native American said, “I hear a cricket.”

His friend said, “What?  You must be crazy.  You couldn’t possibly hear a cricket in all of this noise!”

“No, I’m sure of it,” the Native American said, “I heard a cricket.”

“That’s crazy,” said the friend.

The Native American listened carefully for a moment, and then walked across the street to a big cement planter where some shrubs were growing.  He looked into the bushes, beneath the branches, and sure enough, he located a small cricket.  His friend was utterly amazed.

“That’s incredible,” said his friend.  “You must have super-human ears!”

“No,” said the Native American.  “My ears are no different from yours.   It all depends on what you’re listening for.”

“But that can’t be!” said the friend.  “I could never hear a cricket in this noise.”

“Yes, it’s true,” came the reply.  “It depends on what is really important to you.  Here, let me show you.”

He reached into his pocket, pulled out a few coins, and discreetly dropped them on the sidewalk.  And then, with the noise of the crowded street still blaring in their ears, they noticed every head within twenty feet turn and look to see if the money that tinkled on the pavement was theirs.

“See what I mean?” asked the Native American.  “It all depends on what’s important to you.”

What’s important to you?  What do you listen for?  Are there times that you fail to listen to God or see what God is doing in your life because you are focused on other things that are more important to you?

Jesus said, “For the hearts of this people have grown dull.  Their ears are hard of hearing, and their eyes they have closed, lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears, lest they should understand with their hearts and turn, so that I should heal them.  But blessed are your eyes for they see, and your ears for they hear.” (Matt. 13:15-16)

Father, we pray at the beginning of this new year — amidst all the distractions of the world all around us, may our ears always be open to your voice, and our eyes open to your glory.  In Jesus’ name, amen.

Have a great day!

“At the name of Jesus every knee should bow…” Philippians 2:10

Mike Benson, Editor

NO ONE WILL deny that the Bible talks about a church…

But whose church?  Which church?  What church?

Let us begin by pointing out what it is not.  The church as described in the Bible is not Catholic, Protestant, or Jewish.  It is not denominational, inter-denominational, or sectarian.  It is not a political organization, just another social organization, and neither is it a material meeting house.

The majority of people do not understand the church because they do not know what it is.  Consequently, they do not understand the purpose of it, the importance of it, or the work of it.  But the Bible plainly tells us what it is.  The word church comes from the Greek word ekklesia, which means “the called out.”  So the church is a called out body of people, those who have been called out of the world into the kingdom of God’s dear Son (Colossians 1:13).  It is the spiritual body of Christ (1 Corinthians 12:27), made up of those who have obeyed Christ (Hebrews 5:8,9), and therefore saved by Him and added to His church (Mark 16:16; Acts 2:47).  Another way of putting it, the church consists of the followers of Christ.

The word church appears in the Bible in two senses.  First, it is spoken of in the universal sense.  This is what Christ had in mind when he said, “And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it” (Matthew 16:18).  There are many other verses where the word church is used in the same way, speaking of the church in a universal sense.  That is, wherever the church may be found in the world, if it is the Bible church, it is that church which Jesus said He would build.  Second, it is spoken of in the local sense.  For instance, when Paul was writing to the church at Rome, and speaking of the various congregations, he said, “The churches of Christ greet you” (Romans 16:16).  He wasn’t speaking of a number of churches, in the sense of denominations, but rather a number of local congregations of the Lord’s church.  J. C. Choate

“To the church of God which is at Corinth, to those who are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all who in every place call on the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both theirs and ours” (1 Corinthians 1:2).

Have a great day!  Remember, Jesus is the reason for the season.  Merry CHRISTMAS!

THE BREVITY OF LIFE
The court jester was overcome with grief.  His world was at an end!  For a long time he had served the Caliph at Baghdad and his court, keeping them amused whenever they called upon him.  But in a moment of thoughtlessness he had displeased his ruler who had ordered that he be put to death.

“However,” said the Caliph, “in consideration of the merry jests you’ve told me all these years, I will let you choose how you are to die.”

“O most generous Caliph,” replied the jester, “if it’s all the same to you, I choose death by old age!”

I suppose, if given a choice, that’s the choice all of us would make.  Unfortunately (or perhaps fortunately), though, that choice is not ours to make.  We know (all too well) the fragile nature of life.  And perhaps it is for the best.  If we were guaranteed 90 years on this earth, we would be mighty tempted to wait until the last year or so to get serious about God (just like putting off those term papers in college!).  With a realization of the uncertainty of life, we recognize the need to be prepared at all times.

“LORD, make me to know my end, and what is the measure of my days, that I may know how frail I am.  Indeed, You have made my days as handbreadths, and my age is as nothing before You; Certainly every man at his best state is but vapor.” (Psa. 39:4-5).

May you be prepared for the joys that await when this life is over!

Fasting and Praying

I’m feeling a little better finally. Mommy had to take me back to the pediatrician Thursday because I wasn’t getting any better. They put me on antibiotic because I have bronchitis. I just can’t get a break right now. My brother is sick too. He has an ear infection and a sinus infection. He is feeling better today too. We are 2 days away from starting the ketogenic diet. I will be admitted to New Orleans Children’s Hospital Monday and will have to stay until Thursday. I have to fast for 18 hours. This should be no problem for me. I’ve gone longer than that when I have been put to sleep for testing. We would like for anyone who wants to fast with me to do so. We will use this as a time of fasting and praying for healing. The fast and praying will start at 6:00 pm Sunday night and will continue until 12:00 p.m. Monday. If you really thing about it, its not that bad. During this time, I will be aloud to drink water with sugar free crystal light in it. We are also asking everyone to wear their Jadon’s journey shirt or purple Monday to support me. I left a picture of my mommies work people showing their support for me. Thank you all for supporting me and taking care of my mommy. She couldn’t do it without you. Please continue to pray that God will continue to heal me. I really have come a long way. Also pray for my family. We are anxious about starting a new diet. We know it will be hard, but as I’ve said before nothing can be harder than having seizures everyday. We love all of you and we will keep you posted while we are in the hospital.

Macy Gueldner

I wanted to let everyone know that Macy is doing really well. We are enjoying her sweet personality…… she’s all smiles and loves to cuddle.
Macy had a short bout with Roseola last weekend, but she’s better now. Even with a rash and fever, she stayed in good spirits.
Cate and Macy had a great time trick-or-treating last weekend. Cate was a monkey and Macy was a banana. They both looked so cute!
We’re counting down the days to our Disney trip…….. just 2 weeks away. I absolutely cannot wait to see Cate’s reactions to all of the wonders of Disney World.
I have so much to be thankful for this Thanksgiving. We’ve been Blessed with two beautiful and loving daughters, Macy’s surgery is behind us, and we’re surrounded by wonderful family and friends who’ve helped and prayed for us through our trying times.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

“At the name of Jesus
every knee shall bow…”
Philippians 2:10

Mike Benson, Editor

THERE IS A beautiful legend about a king who decided to set
aside a special day to honor his greatest subject...

When the big day arrived, there was a large gathering in the palace courtyard.
Four finalists were brought forward, and from these four, the king would
select the winner.

The first person presented was a wealthy philanthropist.  The king was told

that this man was highly deserving of the honor because of his humanitarian

efforts.  He had given much of his wealth to the poor.

The second person was a celebrated physician.  The king was told that this doctor was highly deserving of the honor because he had rendered faithful and dedicated service to the sick for many years.

The third person was a distinguished judge.  The king was told that the judge was worthy because he was noted for his wisdom, his fairness, and his brilliant decisions.

The fourth person presented was an elderly woman.  Everyone was quite surprised to see her there, because her manner was quite humble, as was her dress.  She hardly looked the part of someone who would be honored as the greatest subject in the kingdom.  What chance could she possibly have, when compared to the other three, who had accomplished so much?  Even so, there was something about her the look of love in her face, the understanding in her eyes, her quiet confidence.

The king was intrigued, to say the least, and somewhat puzzled by her presence.  He asked who she was.  The answer came: “You see the philanthropist, the doctor, and the judge?  Well, she was their teacher!”

It was James who wrote, “Brothers and sisters, not many of you should become teachers.” (James 3:1, GOD’S WORD). He points out that teachers will be judged more severely.  He could just as easily have said that teachers have a greater responsibility, a greater challenge, a greater opportunity to affect the lives of people in a negative way.  It is impossible to teach without using words, and with greater use of words comes a greater danger that the words will do harm.

But thanks be to God that there are those who face that challenge and assume that responsibility and make a diligent effort to use their words as an opportunity to affect the lives of people in a positive way.  Those of you who are teachers — who can begin to measure the tremendous effect that you are having in the lives of the children (and adults) in your classrooms?  You may not see the results of your efforts for years.  In fact, you may never get to see the results. But you do make a difference.

Those of you who are schoolteachers are teaching not only the basics of education, but you are teaching values and character.  Those of you who are Bible class teachers are filling the minds and hearts of our children with stories of faith that will stay with them for the rest of their lives.  Those of you who are preachers are strengthening the family of God and bringing salvation to the lost.

So, my hat is off to all of you who are teachers because you make a difference!  Alan Smith

We have different gifts, according to the grace given us.

If a man’s gift is prophesying, let him use it in proportion to his faith.

If it is serving, let him serve; if it is teaching, let him teach.

“At the name of Jesus every knee should bow…” Philippians 2:10

Mike Benson, Editor

DANIEL WAS A man of integrity with no weak spots, no scandals, and no sins that his enemies could identify…

And when King Darius came into power during Israel’s 70-year captivity, he relied on Daniel’s wise, insightful counsel. Yet there were others who didn’t like this Hebrew prophet.

Because Daniel had a habit of praying openly every day, his enemies convinced King Darius to foolishly sign a law that would prohibit prayer to anyone except the king. The penalty for breaking this law was being thrown into a den of lions. Sure enough, Daniel prayed as he always had, and it was reported to Darius. The frustration for the king was that as powerful as he was, he couldn’t change a law that he himself had set into motion. So Daniel was sent to die in a den of lions.  I find it interesting that while the child of God was in the den of lions safe in God’s care (Daniel 6:22), the faithless man in the palace with all its luxuries was up and worried and stressed out (v. 18).

And so it is for the person who puts his or her trust in God. When we are worrying, we are really saying that God isn’t in control, that God is not paying attention. When we worry, we are not trusting in the providence of God.

And what is the providence of God? It is the belief that God is in control of the universe.  Greg Laurie

“Whenever I am afraid, I will trust in You.

~Psalm 56:3~

Life presents new issues every day.  It’s so comforting to know God is with us as we face those issues.  I know you are as thankful for His presence as I am.

“Whenever I am afraid, I will trust in You.
