Chloe’s Dr is trying real hard to get her off the vent. It is not going so well, her little lungs just aren’t strong enough yet. Hoping tomorrow will show more improvement! Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers coming our way

Mason Carter said his grandmother, Ms. Molly Carter, broke her left arm yesterday.  Pray for her that the healing process will go well.

It’s another Tuesday, so I think Susan Rimes is making another trip to the doctor.  Please pray Susan will soon be free of pain.

Quote from Dr. Tom Higginbotham at the revival service last night

“Discipline from God gives evidence that we are a son/daughter, not just a sinner.”

Revival continues tonight at FBC, Kentwood at 6:30.  I need to add that Bro. Jeff is doing a wonderful/beautiful job in preparing us for worship through his music.

Thought for the Day: God’s grading plan

Someone has come up with this list of the ways that professors grade their final exams:

DEPT OF STATISTICS:
– All grades are plotted along the normal bell curve.

DEPT OF PSYCHOLOGY:
– Students are asked to blot ink in their exam books, close them and turn them in. The professor opens the books and assigns the first grade that comes to mind.

DEPT OF HISTORY:
– All students get the same grade they got last year.

DEPT OF PHILOSOPHY:
– What is a grade?

LAW SCHOOL:
– Students are asked to defend their position of why they should receive an A.

DEPT OF MATHEMATICS:
– Grades are variable.

DEPT OF LOGIC:
– If and only if the student is present for the final and the student has accumulated a passing grade then the student will receive an A else the student will not receive an A.

DEPT OF COMPUTER SCIENCE:
– Random number generator determines grade.

MUSIC DEPARTMENT:
– Each student must figure out his grade by listening to the instructor play the corresponding note (+ and – would be sharp and flat respectively).

DEPT OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION:
– Everybody gets an A.

How do you suppose God will grade us on our “final exam”? Some people think he will automatically pass everyone (“After all, he’s so kind and loving, how could he do otherwise?”). Some people think he’ll grade on a curve (“I may be bad, but I’m not as bad as some people I know!”). Some people think he look at the assignments you completed (the “good” deeds) and the assignments you failed (the “bad” deeds), and passes you if the good side outweighs the bad.

However, none of those ideas are accurate. Truth is, God grades on a strict pass/fail basis — either we pass (heaven) or we fail (hell). And there is only one way to keep from failing:

“There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.” (Romans 8:1).

For those who are “in Christ” and continue to walk “according to the Spirit”, the grade is certain. I don’t know about you, but I’m anxious for the semester to end! 🙂

Have a great day!

Those who come to me cannot be my disciples

unless they love me more than they love father and mother,

From Gwen Harper Pedelahore
I want to thank everyone who prayed and supported me and my family through this very tough time. Needless to say, It was very comforting to know how many people genuinely care about me. I love my family, both work and personal, and all of my wonderful friends, who are like family too. This has been a very humbling experience and has given me a different outlook on life. And I cant tell everyone thank you enough for praying, visiting, supporting, and helping me and my family while I was unable to take care of myself much less them. I certainly wouldnt be here without all of your prayers, and my recovery was made much easier by everyone bringing food, helping with the kids and reminding me not to overdo it, LOL. I love my family, both personal and work families, and all of my friends who are too just like family. Just seeing how many people love me as made this ordeal much more bearable. I love each and everyone of you!!

He said to another man, “Follow me.”

But that man said, “Sir, first let me go back and bury my father.”

Jesus answered, “Let the dead bury their own dead.

You go and proclaim the Kingdom of God.”

~Luke 9:59-60 TEV~

Betty Simpson told me Melissa’s grandbaby who is named Lily Kate will go by Lily.

Boyd Hatchel got another good report yesterday.  The doctor said he did not have a seizure in Prague and does not have epilepsy.

Miles Hatchel woke up with a problem that seemed to be a broken collarbone according to his mother, the nurse, and the doctor.  A x-ray eliminated that, but led to blood-work that could have shown something much more serious.  The blood-work showed Miles had been too close to Granddaddy’s cats.  Miles has a virus – cat scratch fever.

My surgery is not giving me any problems, but I had a difficult day with facial pain which is brought on by stress.  Stress was good because it led to learning I had a brain tumor.  Stress now is not good.

Mr. Luther Ricks is doing a little better each day.  Thank God for Luther’s continued improvement.

Sherry Simpson is home from her recent surgery in Tennessee.  Pray that time shows the surgery improved her health issue.

From Lisa M. Neyland

Chloe had another rough day today. Hoping for tomorrow to be better.
There are 14 babies right now in the cicu unit with chloe. They all have their own special issues and some of the families have had to travel for hours to be here. Please remember them in your prayers that all their little bodies will be healed and they get to return to their homes and their normal lives

Don’t you love the sweet spirit in Lisa’s heart as she thinks about other families?  Virginia, Chloe’s grandmother, said Chloe had a difficult day again yesterday.  Pray for the family as they face another day at Children’s Hospital.

From Debbie Crawford

Please be in prayer for the family of Warren Doty. He just passed away.

Mrs. Catherine Yarborough’s sister passed away.  Please be in prayer for “Miss” Catherine and other family members.

Jadon’s Story: Vigabatrin Update

Posted: 26 Sep 2011 05:51 PM PDT

I have been an vigabatrin for 3 days now. My seizures are better. They are not nearly as intense as they have been. I’m also not having as many. I’m having about 80 a day instead of 150. Though we are seeing improvement, we have a long way to go. I need you to pray that these seizures will continue to decrease. We also need this medicine to continue to work. I’ve had success at first several times but the seizures have found a way around it. So please pray that the seizures stay down and continue to get better and GO AWAY forever.. Thanks for your support and prayers.
Remember the many who are hospitalized or who have been hospitalized lately.
Do What is Right Anyway

People are often unreasonable,
Illogical, and self-centered;
Love them anyway.

If you are kind,
People may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives;
Be kind anyway.

If you are successful,
You will win some false friends and some true enemies;
Succeed anyway.

If you are honest and frank,
People may cheat you;
Be honest and frank anyway.

What you spend years building,
Someone could destroy overnight;
Build anyway.

If you find serenity and happiness,
They may be jealous;
Be happy anyway.

The good you do today,
People will often forget tomorrow;
Do good anyway.

Give the world the best you have,
And it may never be enough;
Give the world the best you’ve got anyway.

You see, in the final analysis,
It is between you and God;
It never was between you and them anyway.

–Kent Keith

There is a tendency for us to live our lives with an eye on “the other
guy.” We’ll do what’s right to him as long as he does what’s right to us.
But Jesus does not allow us to live our lives as a reaction to others. We
must determine to do what is right regardless.

“Peter, seeing [John], said to Jesus, ‘But Lord, what about this man?’
Jesus said to him, ‘If I will that he remain till I come, what is that to
you? You follow Me.'” (John 21:21-22)

If others around you are making it difficult to do what is right, don’t
allow yourself to be distracted. Do what is right anyway.

Have a great day!

Thought for the Day: Planning Ahead

The story is told of Morris, a Russian man, who saves his rubles for twenty years to buy a new car. After choosing the model and options he wants, he’s not the least bit surprised or even concerned to learn that it will take two years for the new car to be delivered. He thanks the salesman and starts to leave, but as he reaches the door he pauses and turns back to the salesman. “Do you know which week two years from now the new car will arrive?”

The salesman checks his notes and tells the man that it will be two years to the exact week. The man thanks the salesman and starts out again, but upon reaching the door, he turns back again.

“Could you possibly tell me what day of the week two years from now the car will arrive?”

The salesman, mildly annoyed, checks his notes again and says that it will be exactly two years from this week, on Thursday.

Morris thanks the salesman and once again starts to leave. Halfway though the door, he hesitates, turns back, and walks up to the salesman.

“I’m sorry to be so much trouble, but do you know if that will be two years from now on Thursday in the morning, or in the afternoon?”

Visibly irritated, the salesman flips through his papers yet another time and says sharply that it will be in the afternoon, two years from now on Thursday.

“That’s a relief !” says Morris. “The plumber is coming that morning!”

We often have to make plans far in advance so as to avoid any conflicts. Before making any commitments — you know the routine — we have to pull out the date book. “The kids have got a soccer game that night at 7:00, but the next night is free.” Planning ahead isn’t wrong; in fact, it’s a scriptural principle. What makes it wrong, though, is planning ahead without any thought of God.

“Come now, you who say, ‘Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, spend a year there, buy and sell, and make a profit’; whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away. Instead you ought to say, ‘If the Lord wills, we shall live and do this or that.’ ” (James 4:13-15).

Go ahead! Make your plans! Fill in that date book! Just make sure that God hasn’t been left out.

Have a great day!

Thought for the Day: The Brevity of Life by Alan Smith

The court jester was overcome with grief. His world was at an end! For a long time he had served the Caliph at Baghdad and his court, keeping them amused whenever they called upon him. But in a moment of thoughtlessness he had displeased his ruler who had ordered that he be put to death.

“However,” said the Caliph, “in consideration of the merry jests you’ve told me all these years, I will let you choose how you are to die.”

“O most generous Caliph,” replied the jester, “if it’s all the same to you, I choose death by old age!”

I suppose, if given a choice, that’s the choice all of us would make. Unfortunately (or perhaps fortunately), though, that choice is not ours to make. We know (all too well) the fragile nature of life. And perhaps it is for the best. If we were guaranteed 90 years on this earth, we would be mighty tempted to wait until the last year or so to get serious about God (just like putting off those term papers in college!). With a realization of the uncertainty of life, we recognize the need to be prepared at all times.

“LORD, make me to know my end, and what is the measure of my days, that I may know how frail I am. Indeed, You have made my days as handbreadths, and my age is as nothing before You; Certainly every man at his best state is but vapor.” (Psa. 39:4-5).

May you be prepared for the joys that await when this life is over!

Heart to Heart with Holley

Over fear into joy…

Rollercoaster photo by theerawat

I’m a child at an amusement park. The smell of cotton candy swirls around me. The laughter of other children is like a song in the air. The world is in motion and I stand completely still.

I’m staring at a rollercoaster.

Then I hear a voice beside me, “I’ll go with you.”

It’s my Daddy.

He slips his hand into mine.

We wait in line. I fidget. Run my fingers along the red, hard bars that lead us to the rollercoaster.

Then it’s time.

Up the first hill I hear that noise “click, click”all the way to the top.

I wonder if I’ve made a mistake.

I wish I could get off.

I grip the safety bar in front, knuckles flushed white with fear.

But then I look at my Daddy next to me.

The whole way to the top I say over and over something like, “It’s going to be okay. It’s going to be okay.”

He smiles.

And it is okay.

I’m more than fine when we get off.

I ride the rollercoaster again.

Then another.

And another.

Fear gives way to joy, to freedom, to the wind in my hair and the sun on my face.

As I drove last week, the “click, click” of worry in my mind, that exact memory rushed back to me, followed by this promise from my Heavenly Father…

Do not fear, for I am with you. Isaiah 41:10

Our security comes from the One who is with us.

The One who has promised not to leave us.

The One who has told us that whatever is ahead will somehow be worked out for good.

By the end of the last rollercoaster that day, I was raising my arms high until it seemed I could touch the pink and purple sky.

I pull into home and suddenly realize my heart doing the same.

The Lord is all I have, so in him I put my hope.”

In God’s heart I am…accepted

Posted: 17 Aug 2011 07:16 AM PDT

Hey you,

the one wondering if you’re enough,

if you’d be loved if anyone really knew you—

turn your heart this way for a moment,

then lean in and listen close…

Acceptance?

You’ve got it.

You don’t have to look any further

than the hands of the One who made you,

the heart of the One who loves you.

You’re welcomed, held,

cherished just as you are

and encouraged to grow

into all you’ll become.

So hold your heart and head high;

look the world in the eyes and say…

“I’m His. I’m loved.

I’m already accepted today.”

Jadon’s Story: A few pics and new therapy tools

A few pics and new therapy tools.

Posted: 16 Aug 2011 05:35 PM PDT

Well my mommy went back to work last week so we have been very busy. I’m doing great. I haven’t cried for her once. Right now I’m staying with my mimi and I just love her. My seizures have been about the same. We did increase my lamictal again but haven’t noticed any change. I’m on 20mg twice a day and we were hoping to see some improvement by now but we will see. My mommy did get me a new therapy toy. I’m trying to push behind things which is great but I’m too tall for the push toys. Well my Granny B bought a grocery cart. Mommy tried it out with me and then she went and bought me one. It is the perfect height for me. We put my mickey mouse in the seat and a bag of rice in the basket. The rice helps weight it down for me. I don’t like it that much but I can walk behind it. If you notice in the picture I’m taking a step with my right foot 🙂 So even though I don’t like it, it is great therapy for me. I haven’t heard from Detroit yet but as soon as I know something I will let you all know. I hope you enjoy the pictures of me playing in the mud. Can you tell how much I loved it 🙂 Mommy said its great sensory therapy too.
Continue to pray for the Lay Renewal at FBC, Kentwood this weekend.
Thanks for being there and ready to pray each day.  What a blessing you are to many people!
