Devotional by Holley Gerth: You Don’t Have to Do More

http://holleygerth.com/you-dont-have-to-do-more/#comments

Thankfulness: Day 14

I thank God for a husband and friends who love to garden.  We have eaten more fresh vegetables this year than ever before.  Of course, God is the real gardener.  He provides the soil, the sunshine, the rain, the seeds, and the right temperatures the vegetables need.  We have to be careful not to take too much credit.  I know it takes human work too, but it would all be useless without God doing His part.  Thank you, God for the wonderful crops you provided.  (I also like flowers.  God really has a “green thumb”!)

Do something special for others today.

Thankfulness: Day 9

Today, I’m thankful for friends – childhood friends, co-workers, former teachers, former students, church friends, neighborhood friends, etc.  Each of you have a special place in my heart.  You help to make me who I am and are there for me when I “need a friend”.  I hope I have been as good of a friend to you as you have been to me.

Update from Velta Morris

UPDATE ON MY JOURNEY WITH LYMPHOMA

Hi, my friends and family,

 As promised, I want to give an update on my treatment plan and let you know how things are going.  I have several praises to share with you:

 ·         Last Friday I had a PET scan to see how I was responding to the chemo.  The results were really good and confirmed that it was doing what it is supposed to do and shrinking the particular spot that had become aggressive;

  • ·         Today, I met with the oncologist (Dr. Earle Burgess) and he is very pleased with my overall progress, too.  He confirmed the results of the PET scan and said that he believes I am right on track, just as he had anticipated.  He is very encouraged (andencouraging to me) with my response and progress;
  • ·         After meeting with Dr. Burgess, I began Round #3 of the chemo concoctions.  It is kind of an all-day deal.  Bill was able to go with me and he was a real trooper through all the waiting.  He brought me a delicious salad for lunch and played on his computer a bit, and was real patient.  We got done around 3:30 today, which was a little shorter than the two previous treatments.
  • ·         Dr. Burgess said that I can expect more fatigue, particularly with Rounds 5 and 6. If all proceeds as planned, I will complete the chemo the week before Christmas.  I’m so thankful I have not had nausea or terrible aching thus far.  I am blessed!

Thank you so much for all the love and prayers.  Dr. Burgess acknowledged the importance of prayer today.  I’m so thankful he is a Christian.  Please keep praying.  I love you all and am so very grateful to the Lord for blessing me so richly with each of you.

PS: I thought y’all might like to see my new hairdo, especially all of you who live way off.  Everyone has been so kind, and act like they are really fooled.  My wig is my new best friend! Sure saves time getting ready! (The framed photo above me is my engagement picture from early 1961 that recently surfaced when cleaning out a closet.  I’m sure I don’t look a day older.  Yeah, right!)
