Friday

That you may love the Lord your God,

listen to his voice,

and hold fast to him.

For the Lord is your life,

and he will give you many years in the land he swore to give to your fathers,

Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.”

~Deuteronomy 30:20 NIV~

Mr. Billy Travis’ surgery was postponed until 7 A.M. this morning.  That give time for more praying for him and for his family.

Thankfulness: Day 30

I’m thankful for sweet memories and thankful for “treasures” I have that bring these memories to mind.  I’m a sentimental person and love to be surrounded by my “treasures”, many of which most people would not allow in their homes.  To me they are valuable, not for their real worth, but for the people and events they remind me of.  I hope you have some special “treasures” too.

Thanks for putting up with my thankfulness series.  I’ll be back with a new list in November 2013.

The Sunday School literature that did not arrive for us last week is scheduled to be here this afternoon.  Call the FBC,K office this afternoon to see if it is here..  If so, your books will be available for pickup until 5:00 P.M.

 Have a fantastic Friday!

Thursday Afternoon

I need to provide more information on the post from this morning.

  • The cards are for the inmates to send to family and friends.  After you purchase a box of religious Christmas cards, put a stamp on each envelope.  I usually try to buy Christmas stamps.  Deliver them to FBC, Kentwood or to your own church if they are participating.
  • The toys are for the children of migrant workers.  The toys should be new, but unwrapped so it can be determined what  age and sex child will best match.

Thanks to all who will participate.  Remember, you have until Wednesday of next week to turn these in.

Thursday

“I have set you as a light to the Gentiles,

that you should be for salvation to the ends of the earth.”

~Acts 13:47~

Thankfulness: Day 29

I’m thankful for willing workers.  They might be willing to do different things, but they are willing to do various tasks without expecting to get paid or even thanked.  I appreciate those who notice needs in their homes, jobs, churches, and communities and gladly meet those needs.  I believe more people notice the needs, than meet the needs, but I’m especially thankful for those who do both.

Rene Deck was at church last night.  She is doing well following her surgery.  Susie Sharkey and Elizabeth Carol New will both have surgery next week.  Pray all goes well during surgery and recovery is complete and timely.

Jimmy Schwartz continues to improve at home.  Keep him in your prayers.

Pray for Mr. Billy Travis and his family as he has a serious surgery today.

Pray for Sam Liberto as he recovers from some stents he received last week.

Continue to pray for the homebound as the colder weather tends to make them stay in even more.

The Georgia Barnett goal at FBC,K was exceeded by about $75.00.  Thank-you to all who gave to help win the lost in Louisiana.

The anual senior adult Christmas lunch will be Wednesday, Dec. 5th at 11 a.m.  We will have a guest entertainer you will enjoy.

Two associational Christmas opportunities

  • Stamped religious Christmas cards for the inmates of the parish jails
  • New unwrapped Christmas toys for children of migrant workers

The deadline for these two projects is Wednesday, December 5th at FBC,K.  Goals in other churches may vary slightly.

Looking ahead, the annual Lottie Moor Christmas Tea for our association will be Sunday, December 30th at 2 P.M. at FBC, K.  This is an opportunity to join with other ladies and girls to learn more about Lottie Moon and our annual offering for international missions.

Pray for each of us to be more willing when we notice needs or are asked to help meet needs.

Please continue to pray for Charles Houeye of Roseland.  He has been in North Oaks for some time now.

Thankfulness: Day 26

Today, I’m thankful for music.  I don’t have as wide a range of music appreciation as some people, but I do really enjoy a variety of music.  I like music that conveys a story.  Hymns and gospel music are my favorites.  I’m not the best musician, but my fingers and toes can’t help but tap out the beat.   I appreciate music that sets the mood for a sermon.  Thank musicians for their time and dedication to a talent God blessed them with.

The missions time at church last night was a continuation of our Sunday School lesson.  Only God could make things like that happen.  Spend some time today praying for those who are sharing God’s word and for those who are still seeking to know Him.

The Lord’s house – the place to be on Sunday!

Thankfulness: Day 25

Today, I’m thankful for Sunday School classes.  The small group setting is perfect in may ways – Bible study, prayer, sharing, etc.  I’m glad for my childhood Sunday School classes where I got a good Biblical foundation and my adult Sunday classes where I could grow even more.  Teaching a class allows for the most learning!  It’s easy to really know and love your class members and their families.  I’ve been blessed by my opportunities in Sunday School.

Have a great day.  Enjoy your Sunday School class.

Tuesday

“And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship,

in the breaking of bread,

and in prayers…

and the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved”

~Acts 2:42-47~

Pray for Randy Cutrer of Spring Creek.  He had surgery last week and is at Ochsner.

I have these numbers of the Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes that were collected locally last week.

  • Hammond –  2,715
  • McComb – 14,153
Those numbers represent many children who will get a special blessing this year.
Pray for Debi Bales and her family as they adjust to their mother being at Landmark Nursing Home.
Thank God for the 7,000 youth from Baptist churches across the state that were able to attend Youth Evangelism Conference for the last few days.  May many lives be changed forever because of that experience.
Pray for Elizabeth Carol New as she prepares for knee surgery on December 3rd.
Pray for family members traveling to be with others for Thanksgiving.  I pray for safe traveling and wonderful visits as well as sufficient special foods to enjoy.

Thankfulness: Day 20
Today, I’m thankful for our vehicles.  They are not new or fancy, but dependable, which is the most important to me.  I’m also thankful for roads to ride on.  Many of them are not in the best shape, but they certainly could be much worse.   I’m also glad to see road construction periodically because that means the road will be better when they are finished.
Have a terrific Tuesday!

Today’s Promise: His Great Love for Us

Thankfulness: Day 17

Today, I’m thankful for technology.

  • News that streams into my house as it happens and pictures from around the world of events as they happened.  (I remember the days of the Viet Nam War when we saw one day the events to the day before.)
  • A phone that rings in my house that connects me to family and friends in Kentwood, in the state, in the United States, and around the world.
  • A phone in my pocket or purse that finds me when I am not at home.
  • My computer that is like another brain, a television, a telephone, a typewriter, etc.  I depend on my computer for so many things off and on each day.

I know other people use more technology than I do.  That’s wonderful!  I have found the ones that are important to me.  I don’t wish to go back to the technology we had in the days when I was growing up, but  I’m so thankful for the current technology and looking forward to the technology of the future.

Get prepared for a great day in the Lord’s House tomorrow.  FBC, Kentwood will host the community Thanksgiving service tomorrow night at 6:00.  Fell free to join us.

The Third Thursday meeting at the cabin didn’t go as expected, but it was wonderful!  We are so thankful for many blessings!

Thankfulness: Day 16

I’m so thankful to be a part of the Third Thursday/Share Group meetings at the cabin.  What a blessing the meeting have been to David and me.  I’m so thankful to the many people who have been a part of this group.  We had three people for the first time last night, two who are relatively new, and others who have been a part for years.

Thursday Addition

I’m thankful for the revival services just completed at FBC, Kentwood and the opportunity to meet Dr. Wade and Mrs. Barbara Akins.  They touched my heart.  I’m also thankful for some of the music that I enjoyed so much I sang more than my throat needed and now have a cough that won’t go away.  It was worth my time and effort for sure.

Mrs. Alvarez is the mother of one of my former students.  Please be in prayer for the family and for the police as they search for the person(s) behind this crime.

Thursday

and He inclined to me, and heard my cry.”

~Psalm 40:1~

Robert Callihan thanks you for praying for him as he had a heart cath yesterday.  He doesn’t need surgery or stents.  He does have one small blockage, but it will be treated with a change of medication.

Andy Taylor has a couple of health issues that we can help be cleared up.  Let’s do our part in praying.

Abram Pounds, the boy involved in the bus accident in Washington Parish, has had surgery on both legs and is now in a regular hospital room.  Continue to pray for him.

Calli J. Austin is facing her battle and making progress.  Some days are better than others.  Pray she has a good day today.

Frances Ann M. Davis has learned she also has a big battle to fight.  Pray for her as she begins treatment.

Operation Christmas Child collection ends this week.  Line Creek Baptist Church collected 201 boxes.  What a blessing that will be to 201 children somewhere in the world next month!  I don’t have a count of the boxes from Kentwood yet.  Thanks to all who helped in this wonderful project in the many churches around the world.

We invite you to share some time with us at 6:30 tonight for our Third Thursday Meeting.  Come and be blessed.

Thankfulness: Day 15

Today, I’m thankful for all the hours I got to spend canning and freezing foods this summer.   I renewed my interest in making jams and jellies, put up lots of vegetables and berries in the freezer, and really “broke in” a new canner in a big way.  It is very rewarding to look at the “fruits” of my labor and even better to eat them and share them.  My time spent canning and freezing foods was a good investment of my time.  I’m thankful I was able to put in the time and effort and had the equipment and space to keep the food for future use.  What a blessing!

Have a wonderful day!
