“You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.”

~2 Corinthians 9:11 NIV~

Linda B. Williams requests prayers for husband, Jimmy.

Friends & Relatives, we are in need of your prayers, again. Following Jimmy’s hospitalization a few months ago after he had the heart cath, his prognosis wasn’t good. He never had recovered from the quadruple bypass surgery he had in 12/2018, and the coronary artery disease is severe. His doctor decided to have a Physical Therapist with his Home Health agency start seeing him and see if he could get his strength back. He did not progress and was discharged by his therapist. When he went to his doctor, she put the order in for Hospice so they can help Jimmy have the best quality of life possible. She explained the things Hospice can do for him that Home Health can’t. She also told us it did not mean he would only live for a certain length of time. It meant Hospice will provide services that will help make his life easier. There are no options left for treating his failing heart. He was admitted to Hospice today. Thanks in advance for your prayers for Jimmy and our family.

Scripture Writing – September 5 – “JOY” – Isaiah 35: 1-10

Today’s prayer focus is on those who have recently had surgery or who will have surgery in the near future.  Pray for peace and assurance for those facing surgery.  Pray for good results and the ability to put that uncertainly behind.  Surgery is a “biggie” if it is done to you!  Help others to face, endure, and move on.

As we learn more and more about Hurricane Dorian, let’s pray for those who had Dorian visit them personally.  May these people be able to put their lives back together and move on with life.  Thank those who are volunteering in various ways.  Contribute to recovery by supporting Louisiana Baptist Relief in these areas, Samaritan’s Purse, and other reliable organizations who are not looking for a way to make money, but to help others.   Prayers are always important!

Today we have heat warnings for our area.  Be careful to stay inside as much as possible and to stay hydrated.  Use your best judgment when making decisions about being out in the heat.

Pray for someone you have never prayed for before, but whose name God puts on your heart.

Anna Lee

Wednesday

What you heard from me, keep as the pattern of sound teaching, with faith and love in Christ Jesus.

Guard the good deposit that was entrusted to you—guard it with the help of the Holy Spirit who lives in us.

~2 Timothy 1:13-14 (NIV)~

Today, I want to focus on unspoken prayers.  Many people keep their troubles to themselves for one reason or another.  Remember these people as they carry a big load on their shoulders and in their hearts.

Scripture Writing – September 4 – Isaiah 9: 1-7, 12:6

Reminder: The form for the month of September is available in the sanctuary of FBC, Kentwood if you would like one for your Bible or just to keep.

Fall Food Round-Up – September 16

Katie McElveen will be sharing about the Georgia Barnette Offering at the Two Rivers WMU meeting on September 16th at Hillsdale.  You will want to hear how our funds are used for missions in out state.

Remember our families with children and youth as they try to adjust to new schedules that include church, school, and extra activities.  Pray that God guides them as they make both long-term and short-term decisions.

Continue to pray for those in the path of Hurricane Dorian and those who have traveled or will be be rushing to help in various ways.

September 24th is the date of this month’s “Young” Ladies’ Birthday Party at The Cafe.  Come for 11 A.M.  The meeting is concluded with birthday cake for ladies with September birthdays.

Thank God for the decisions made at our local churches recently.  May God continue to work in each church.

Labor Day

“Where were you when I laid the earth’s foundation? Tell me, if you understand.

Who marked off its dimensions? Surely you know!

Who stretched a measuring line across it?

On what were its footings set, or who laid its cornerstone—  while the morning stars sang together and all the angels shouted for joy?

~Job 38:4-7~

Scripture Writing – September 2 – Habakkuk 3: 17-18

Coming Soon – WMU on September  16

Continue to pray for those in the uncertain path of Hurricane Dorian.  May everyone make wise decisions about preparations for the storm.  As some people are moving out, others are moving in to help.  Pray for the Louisiana Baptists and others as they plan to be a part of the recovery.

Often, people make various unwise decisions on holidays.  Today, let’s pray for good choices and safe travels.

Today, let’s pray for the many who have been on our prayer list lately.  Let’s add one more name.  Glenda Harrell had a fall that left her with a broken food.  Let’s pray for complete healing so Glenda can continue her busy and productive life.

Our prayers make a difference!

Sunday

“If God says his chosen ones are acceptable to him, can anyone bring charges against them? Or can anyone condemn them? No indeed!”

~Romans 8:33-34 CEV~

I’m go thankful to be a “child of the King”!

During the month of September the Scripture Writings will focus on joy.

I hope you find some time to do some reading today.

Today’s big concern – praying for people in the path of Hurricane Dorian!

Saturday

We had overnight guests from Texas arrive after we went to bed and sleeping a little late for my normal morning posting.  I’m thankful for the company and hope they have a great day in Baton Rouge.

“I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing.

I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.”

~Genesis 12:2-3~

Good news from MS this morning.  Carol B. Sealey got to leave the hospital yesterday.  She will still be getting therapy and other medical care.  Please continue to pray for her and her family.  Thanks to all of you for praying and to God for answering our prayers in a great way.

Scripture Writing – August 30 an 31

  • August 30 – Job 38:4-7
  • August 31 – Genesis 12:2-3

I apologize for getting my days confused this month.  Our life just doesn’t run on a regular schedule now, so I often am confused about the day.  At least that is what I am going to blame it on.

The Scriptures for September will be available at church tomorrow.

Counting tomorrow, there are only three more Sundays to turn in items for the LA Baptist Children’s Home Fall Food Round-up.  This is our once-a-year opportunity to help them with food needs for the next year.

In September, we begin to think of the annual mission offering for Louisiana, the Georgia Barnette offering.  Help us share the Good News in various ways in Louisiana.  The 2019 theme is “Impart Truth Today”.

I hope you are enjoying shopping for the Operation Christmas Child “shoeboxes”.  You can pack some for you as an individual or contribute the the church’s boxes.  If you need a box or boxes, please let me know.

I want to end the day with a very big need.  Pray for the people of Florida and other areas that will face destructive Hurricane Dorian in the next days.  Pray for those who live in areas were the storm will go.  Pray for the first responders who will be busy helping others.  Pray for the others such as the electrical power people who will be working as soon as it is safe.  I saw convoys for trucks going that way Wednesday.  Pray for Louisiana Baptist and others who will be doing disaster relief for the coming months.

Anna Lee

Wednesday

When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world.

Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

~John 8:12~

When I read this verse, I immediately began to sing “The Light of the World is Jesus” to myself.  This is news we need to shout from the rooftops!

My classmate’s granddaughter is starting another semester of school in hopes of accomplishing her goal of becoming a nurse.  Left’s pray for good health for her and for the many other students who have serious health needs.

Friday

For the Lord watches over the way of the righteous,

but the way for the wicked leads to destruction.

Pray for Bill Frazier today.  He is having neck surgery at 1 P.M today at OLOL in Baton Rouge.  Your prayers will be greatly appreciated.

I’ve had updates on Carol B. Sealey and Carl “Chicken” Gaines.  They are both improving.

Yesterday, I had the opportunity to do some more shopping for Operation Christmas Child.  I’m so excited to get all these items from the trunk and start to prepare and organize them for the “shoeboxes”.

Yesterday, someone gave me money to spend on fishing items.  That was done too.

Some of the items I was able to purchase were school crayons, highlighters, small toys, flashlights, craft supplies, soap, dishcloths, pencil sharpeners, large erasers, pens, pencils, marbles, eating utensils, craft felt. scissors. plastic tablecloths, and pencil holders.

I had a great time buying these items and will have a good time working with them in the coming days.  I have to get busy now, so the shoeboxes can be ready for November collection.  Don’t miss out on the joy of “shoeboxes”!

If you want to pack your own shoeboxes, let me know.  I will have them ready for you Sunday morning.  If you want to shop and turn in items for us to pack together, you can drop your items off at the church office or the classroom next to the choir room.  If you want to donate you can give through the offering at church and labeling your donation to “OCC” or “shoeboxes”.  If you want me to shop for you, I’ll do that and give you a copy of the receipt.

There are many ways to get involved.  The main thing is that you “get involved” and pray for the boys and girls who will receive the shoebox gifts and an opportunity to learn about Jesus.  That is the main reason for “shoeboxes”!
