“When you pray, do not be like the hypocrites!

They love to stand up and pray

Pray for Mr. Billy Gill as he recovers from his heart procedure.  Also, pray the medicines he will be taking will be effective in taking care of his problem.

Tiffany B. Currier is still running a temperature.  Pray for her as she fights off the pneumonia.

Cindy K. Edwards just had heart surgery and was recovering nicely.  Now, she has developed shingles.  Pray for her as she deals with this setback.  Cindy has a preschool age daughter.  Pray she will be able to take care of her family and overcome her recent health issues.

I’m posting this as a reminder of Father’s Day and so we can help change the statistics on Father’s Day.

=====  Thursday’s Thought For The Day (June 18, 2009)  =====

ADVICE FOR FATHERS

A mother was out walking with her 4 year old daughter. The child picked up something off the ground and started to put it into her mouth. The mother took it away and said “Don’t do that!”

“Why not?” asked the child.

“Because it’s on the ground,” said her mother. “You don’t know where it’s been. It’s dirty, and it’s probably loaded with germs that could make you sick.”

The child looked at her mother with total admiration and said, “Mommy, how do you know all this stuff? You’re so smart.”

The mother said, “All Moms know this stuff. It’s on the Mom’s Test. You have to know it or they don’t let you be a Mom.”

There was silence for a minute or so as the child thought this through. “Oh, I get it,” she said at last. “And if you don’t pass the test you have to be the Daddy?”

Fathers don’t always get the respect that mothers do.  That will become evident on Sunday.  The truth is, Father’s Day is just not as big as Mother’s Day.  On Mother’s Day, there’s a higher attendance at church, mothers have corsages on, emotions run high, restaurants do a booming business.  On Father’s day, well, there are more collect phone calls than any other day of the year (yes, that’s a true fact).

Despite the fact that fathers are sometimes overlooked, the Bible is clear about the great responsibility given to those of us who are fathers.  God challenges husbands to be the leaders in their homes.  He challenges fathers to be someone their kids can look up to  Allow me to share a few biblical pieces of advice with those of you who are fathers.

Love your wife!  Paul said in Ephesians 5:28, “So husbands ought to love their own wives as their own bodies; he who loves his wife loves himself.”  That’s one of the most important things you can do as a father.  Trust me — your children do watch how you treat their mother.  They watch … and they are learning and forming their concept of marriage from you.

Spend time with your children.  The Psalmist wrote in Psalm 127:3, “Behold, children are a heritage from the LORD, The fruit of the womb is a reward.”  In other words, our children are a great blessing.  Children are given to us to enjoy — not to be a burden … not to avoid … not to ignore … But to enjoy!  And in order to enjoy them, you’ve got to be with them … have fun with them … share your life with them.

Listen to your children.  Give them your undivided attention … not with one eye on the TV and the other eye on them. When they have a problem, they don’t need cartoons, they don’t need a video game, they don’t even need their best friends.  Dad … they need you!  We need to be approachable. Be the kind of father that they can come to and say anything that’s on their mind.

Train your children.  Paul wrote in Ephesians 6:4, “And you, fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord.”  Notice what Paul said.  He didn’t say “parents”.  And he didn’t say “Sunday School teachers”.  He said, “fathers.”  As we train our children, our goal is not merely to get our kids to outwardly conform to a list of rules.  Our goal is to train and develop children who seek to glorify God with their lives.

Be a positive role model.  Much of what our kids learn is caught rather than taught—they learn from what they observe. This means we can’t afford to cheat on our taxes, lie to our boss, or be rude to a salesperson.  You are a role model for your children and, like it or not … good or bad … they will, to one degree or another, model their lives after you. You have inherited some of your father’s characteristics and your children are inheriting some of yours.

May God bless those of you who are fathers, and may we always look to our Heavenly Father as a perfect example of what a father should be!

Have a great day!

Day by Day

Vance Havner had a great book. But this journey we are on has given this new meaning.  I am not a patient man.  We must just trust God and be patient, waiting on mom to get better.  She has good days and bad.  Even though today she stood and tried to walk, with total support, and sat for over an hour so she was probably very tired but today she had a bad day. The therapist are really working her and that may be why she has had two “different days”. she has just been a little less moving of left side, and a little more hazy confused at times not smiling as much.  We know with brain injuries patients can go up and down and you dont really know where the new normal is for over a year.   Just pray for her.  Pray for her cognition, pray for no infection, pray for her mobility and strength.  Pray that God would allow complete recovery.

Dad is doing well continue to lift him up.  He is having good workouts at therapy.  Pray for his work and classes as he is stretched mentally and emotionally.

A new friend said to me yesterday, “there is nothing like intimacy with God”  This journey along with his and Justin and Jennifer’s have taught us all that sometimes it is not like we want it but it is what it is.  And more importantly we have learned that what we know about God, we now really have experientail heart knowledge that he loves us and walks with us and carries us.  Our intimacy has grown in reality as He has walked through this with us.  He does love us so much.  We can live each day with Him because He lives.  When we suffer in pain, he relates to us he is there with us and he understands our anger, sadness, our desire to right a wrong. He also beautifully picks us up as we would our own children when they fuss and yell because something unfair has happened to them.  We pick them up and hold them in and through the emotional state they are in at the time.  He is with us, emmanuel, all the time through good  bad and ugly.  How much peace does that bring, a peace that passes all understanding.

Thanks for all your encouragement and prayer and all the way you have shown us love as a family.  We appreciate it and will never forget it.

Susie Eads’ Mom

Requesting prayers for my Mom. She has a breast biopsy tomorrow for a suspicious spot seen on her mammogram. She has survived breast cancer twice in the past and has undergone a mastectomy of one breast in 1997 and then then radiation and grueling chemotherapy in 2006 for cancer in the other breast. Please pray for a good report. She’s a strong lady. I love and admire her more than words could ever express….

Pray for Mrs. Nadine Council.  She has been having hip troubles that have limited her ability to do the things she normatlly does.

Mexico City missions to youth

Gerardo is new Christian in Mexico City. The church he goes to is called La Iglesia que Te Ama which means The Church that Loves You. Isn’t that a great name for a church? Gerardo is praying for his teenage sister. His sister is sick with bulimia, an eating disorder, so please pray that she will eat right and be healthy. Will you also pray with him for her to accept Jesus as Savior?    Two teenage missionary kids have a Saturday night youth group at their house, and Gerardo likes to go. These teens spend time praying for their Mexican friends. They tell their friends about the hope of Jesus. So many have difficult home lives, but they study God’s Word together and ask Him to guide them.   Alejandro grew up in a Christian home but he never knew that he needed to trust Jesus himself. He became a Christian this year and was baptized along with 4 other youth. Now he helps lead the youth group!   Alejandro and Gerardo both love studying the Bible. Gerardo says the Lord is calling him to be a youth minister one day. The first teenager he hopes to reach is his sister.   Please pray that God will continue to use Gerardo and Alejandro, and the 2 missionary kids. Pray that they will be able to help teenagers in Mexico City who need Jesus.

MORE PRAYER REQUESTS FROM MISSIONARY KIDS

I’m worried about some of my friends at school.  One believes in astrology, writes her horoscopes, healing powers in crystals etc., another has a severe hatred for God, and doesn’t want anything to do with Him.  Most of my friends are simply indifferent.  Please pray for them that God may have His way in their lives.  JILLIAN, age 14 (Central, Eastern and Southern Africa)

Please pray for me. I don’t have very many friends where I live. Please pray for my friend “Alice” to become a believer. EL, age 9 (East Asia)

My best friend is a Muslim, she has a Christian mother, but her father decided for her to be a Muslim. I would like her to be a Christian because I care about her. KATIE, age 12 (Northern Africa and the Middle East)

I need a friend. CALEB, age 6 (Pacific Rim)

War

mine.jpg…I HAVE NO alternative but to bluntly call it a war…

The prize is the inner spirit of my children, and the stakes are high. Arrayed against me are those who wish to extract money, loyalty, and the strong creative energy my son or daughter may have to give. In the eternal dimension, the prize is the soul of my children. I am not prepared to compromise or negotiate. Until my children are old and wise enough to distinguish their enemies from their friends, I hold the responsibility to conduct both a defense and an offense on their behalf, demonstrating all the time how and why it is done for their benefit.

It is not a phony war the effective father faces. It is often a jungle conflict fought with the stealth of a modern day “guerrilla” who appears in the day as an innocent friend, only to return in the night as a bitter and exploitative foe. My eyes return to the war photo of the squad’s leader, mine detector in hand, leading the way. Behind him are men; they follow because he has the capacity to discern the safe path. There are no careless steps; mistakes are fatal. Gordon MacDonald

That’s My Mama

Well there has not alot happening in the last two days.  Mom had her trach removed on sunday.  She has been in Ochsner LTAC since friday.  She has had a much better experience already than her previous hospital.  Not only in a nonlazy, noncommunicative, nonuniversal precautions, nonagressive with therapy kind of way but just in a trust we have with the Ochsner way.  She will get her skull back on in the next few weeks at Ochsner we think.  She is talking, and swallowing better.  We need to continue to pray for her infection to heal and for her to talk, swallow, move move move.  She is more like my mom in personality and response and I love it.

My dad has done well.  He did therapy today.  He is hurting some but gaining strength.  He will preach sunday again and is looking forward to that.  He enjoyed Charmaine Neville last night.  All the years he has lived here he has never been to snug Harbor.  So last night we went and it was well worth it.  I think we both had a great deal of fun.  There were some good cheeseburgers beforehand too but they are proud of their food.   Just keep praying for us.

Also pray for Justin and Jennifer Taylor and their daughter Caroline.  They are our great friends and Caroline, there beautiful daughter, had spinabifida and hydrocephalus when she was born last monday.  They are walking with God through this difficulty and as their faith is strengthened their example to us is tremendous.  Pray for them to have peace and strength and for the doctors and nurses to care for Caroline.  I pray their little miracle will heal and be made whole as she grows in wisdom and stature in the way God has designed her from before she exited the womb.  They have a caringbridge site Caroline Taylor is who you visit.  The site is www.caringbridge.org/visit/marycarolinetaylor Uncle Jonathan has a great prayer in the guestbook.  May God bless them and continue to bless mom and dad.

We thank and love all of you for the support, prayer, and love you have sent our way.

Mary Caroline Taylor

Background Story

Mary Caroline Taylor is the daughter of Justin and Jennifer Taylor.  She was born on Monday, June 8, 2009.  She weighed 8lbs 1oz and was 19 1/2 inches long.  She has a little dimple on her left cheek and a little bit of light brown hair.  She is absolutely beautiful in every way!

Soon after she was born, the doctors noticed a  bulge near the base of her spine.  She was quickly diagnosed with spina bifida.  Her parents, along with friends and family gathered for this joyous occasion, were completely shocked.

At a mere 28 hours old, sweet baby Caroline underwent surgery to correct the part of the spine that did not close properly.  We are so thankful to God that the surgery went well, and Caroline is recovering in the NICU at Huntsville Hospital.

There are so many complications that go along with spina bifida.  It is too early to tell what effect they will have on Caroline.  She is scheduled to undergo surgery again on Tuesday, 6/16/09 to place a shunt to drain the spinal fluid that could not drain properly.

Her entire family truly believes in the power of prayer.  Please pray for Caroline, and her continued improvement from her surgery and all else she will face in the near and not-so-near future.  Please also pray for her parents, Justin and Jennifer, to have the strength they will need for all that is to come.

Justin is the head basketball coach at West Limestone High School and Jennifer is an RN and works for the state of Alabama Home Health.  They are very active members of Round Island Baptist Church in Athens Alabama.  They are a strong Christian family and have been overwhelmed and grateful for all the support they have received from their church, community, friends and family.

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11

Latest Update

Tuesday, June 16, 2009 9:38 PM, CDT

Surgery is over and the doctor told us that everyting went well.  We are sitting in the NICU waiting room waiting for them to get Caroline situated.   Dr. Pickett was pleased with how well her back is healing.  We dont know when we will be able to take her home, it depends on her healing from both surgeries.

We can’t tell you how much we appreciate all of you.  We will never be able to thank all of you who have stood with us through this.  Our families are amazing, our co-workers have been great,  our church family and friends are unbelievable.

As we got ready to leave for the hospital last Monday morning we were singing Because He Lives.  The second verse says        “but greater still the calm assurance, this child can face uncertain days because he lives.”  We didnt know how true this would be.
He has shown himself perfect.
Thank you.  We love you.

Thanks Debbie for setting up this site.

Continue to pray for the Birch/Lee family as they have services for Sandra today.

Continue to pray for Mrs. Blanch Wheat.

Continue to pray for Judy Easley’s family as they recover from the boat accident and prepare for Kin’s graduation.

Pray for Tiffany Bankston Currier as she has a check-up today that will hopefully show good blood flow in her arm.

Carol Knight Edwards continues to progress nicely following her heart surgery.

Locked

locked up.jpgA WOMAN IN Brooklyn is suing a dental clinic for medical malpractice after she was given anethesia and then inadvertently left in the clinic alone overnight…

Ramona Mercado was expecting to have her wisdom teeth pulled and she was prepped with a dose of anesthesia. But when she came to, she still had her wisdom teeth and discovered that the entire staff at the clinic had locked up and left for the night. She was hysterical, but managed to call the center’s night office service. They called 911 and Mercado was rescued. “The officers had to snip the locks off to get me out,” she says.

It would be frightening, indeed, to find yourself in Mrs. Mercado’s circumstances, but imagine what it would be like to wake up in torment and not be able to escape… Dear reader, are you READY for the Judgment Day ( Matthew 28:19-20; Acts 2:38; Romans 10:9-10; Galatians 3:27)?

So it was that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels to Abraham’s bosom. The rich man also died and was buried. And being in torments in Hades, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. “Then he cried and said, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.’ But Abraham said, ‘Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things; but now he is comforted and you are tormented. And besides all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed, so that those who want to pass from here to you cannot, nor can those from there pass to us.’ Luke 16:22-26

Lazy

cowboy1.jpgTHERE WAS A big, overgrown cow poke named Tall Cotton, whose specialty was going to sleep during duty hours, leaving the rest of the crew to do his share of the work…

The boys took it for a time, but they finally decided that something had to be done about the matter.

Then came the day they found Cotton curled up in a haystack, boots off, sound asleep. They opportunity was golden. The boys rounded up a huge tarantula, killed it, and laid it close to Cotton’s leg. Then they tied a pin on the end of a stick and jabbed the sleeping cowboy a couple of times. Cotton came awake like a wild Comanche doing the snake dance and, at the same time, a cowboy rushed up and smashed the tarantula with his boot heel.

Cotton took one look at the dead tarantula and turned white. He began to get sick, even though the other cowboys did their best to console him with stories of horrible deaths they had seen as a result of tarantula bites. Finally, one of the crew, who laid claim to having read Ten Thousand Things Worth Knowing, as well as Dr. Chase’s Recipe Book, offered to try to save Cotton, even though he admitted it seemed hopeless.

First, the cowboy poured a pint of Castor oil down Cotton. Then he followed it up with a glass of soda, a cup of vinegar, and finally a quart of water in which a plug of tobacco had been soaking. For a while it seemed almost certain that Cotton was going to die from the tarantula bite, but the medicine was potent and, eventually, he was saved.

After that, the crew had very little trouble with him lying down on the job, especially in haystacks! (Stan Hoig, The Humor of the American Cowboy, 26, 27)

Mattress

mattress.jpgJERUSALEM — An Israeli woman mistakenly threw out a mattress with $1 million inside, setting off a frantic search through tons of garbage at a number of landfill sites, Israeli media reported Wednesday.

The woman told Army Radio that she bought her elderly mother a new mattress as a surprise on Monday and threw out the old one, only to discover that her mother had hidden her life savings inside. She was identified only as Anat, a resident of Tel Aviv.

When she went to look for the mattress it had already been taken by garbage men, she said. Subsequent searches at three different landfill sites turned up nothing.

The Israeli daily Yediot Ahronot published a picture of the woman searching through garbage at a dump in southern Israel.

Yitzhak Borba, the dump manager, told the radio station that his staff was helping the woman, saying she appeared “totally desperate.” He said the mattress was hard to find among the 2,500 tons of garbage arriving at the site every day.

He said he increased security at the site to keep would-be treasure hunters at bay.

For her part, Anat said it could be worse. “People have to take everything in proportion and thank God for the good and the bad,” she said.

Loosing a $1M would be bad; loosing your soul would be a lot worse.

It has been one week since we have come back from St. Louis.  Don is doing better this time coming home than from the last time.  He just over the past couple days has shown some more improvement and that is such a good thing for all of us to see.

He continues to work hard at building his strength and endurance as well.

I on the other hand have a sinus infection.  I went to the doctor today and I also will have an ultrasound on Monday of the abdomen/uterus.  The doctor say it is enlarged.

Other than that we are doing pretty good.

Joshua is busy these days playing with friends.  Joshua and I really hope to be in church on Sunday.

It is late.  I will update soon.

Stir

stir.jpgI CARRY SOME coffee stir sticks around in my backpack because I want to remember that I need to be a stir stick…

I want to get into the lives of people and stir them up and help them reach their potential and become all God wants them to be.

Even though I’m over fifty, I believe the best years of my life are ahead of me. I’m not going to stand still and watch life go by.

What gets you up in the morning? What stirs your coffee? Do you have the initiative to attempt great things for God? You can create fire by striking a match, and, in the right environment, you could burn off the dried leaves and undergrowth for a whole forrest, removing the main tinder that lets forrest fires get out of hand and become terribly destructive. You small light could ignite a salutary flame that spreads across the country. But Satan does not want us to ignite the country–he wants to keep our little lights stuck in a container.

God wants us to initiate something, to become a stir stick. We don’t want to reach the ends of our lives and say, “What did I really do for the Kingdom? What did I do for my family? What did I do for my work? What did I do that echoes in eternity?” (Dan Erickson)

“And let us consider one another

in order to stir up love and good works.”

Hebrews 10:24

I hope the list of things you have done is long so you won’t have to even wonder for a second what you have done for God’s kingdom.  We want it to grow!

Thank you for you prayers, calls, visits and cards. We have come a long way since February due to you all lifting us up in your prayers. We still have a little way to go. Please keep us in your prayers.

A SENSE OF DUTY

Early one morning, a mother went in to wake up her son. “Wake up, son. It’s time to go to school!”

“But why, Mom? I don’t want to go.”

“Give me two reasons why you don’t want to go.”

“Well, the kids hate me for one, and the teachers hate me, too!”

“Oh, that’s no reason not to go to school. Come on now and get ready.”

“Give me two reasons why I should go to school.”

“Well, for one, you’re 52 years old. And for another, you’re the principal!”

Sometimes we have to do things even when we don’t feel like doing them! It’s called having a sense of duty. I think perhaps the concept of duty has taken some abuse in the church. We sometimes talk about the importance of doing things for God because we want to, not because we have to. And I would wholeheartedly agree with that. But if we only serve God when we really “feel” like it, our service would be minimal indeed. Sometimes the feelings aren’t there, and we need to continue to serve knowing that it is the “right” thing to do.

It shouldn’t bother us to think that way because we do many other things in life for the same reason. For example, I am a father of three children. When each of of those babies entered my home, I loved them. And I provided for their needs because I loved them. But, I can honestly say that there were many times I got up in the middle of night to meet their needs when I didn’t “feel” like it. There were times when I got out of bed exhausted and irritable, and the only reason I got up was because I had a responsibility as a father to meet their needs. The love is always there, but sometimes it is a sense of duty that drives you to do what needs to be done.

The same thing is true in our Christian walk. When you get “exhausted and irritable” in your service to Christ, when you don’t “feel” like doing what you know needs to be done, may a sense of responsibility, a sense of duty, drive you to continue to remain faithful.

“And which of you, having a servant plowing or tending sheep, will say to him when he has come in from the field, ‘Come at once and sit down to eat’? But will he not rather say to him, ‘Prepare something for my supper, and gird yourself and serve me till I have eaten and drunk, and afterward you will eat and drink’? Does he thank that servant because he did the things that were commanded him? I think not. So likewise you, when you have done all those things which you are commanded, say, ‘We are unprofitable servants. We have done what was our duty to do.’ ” (Luke 17:7-10)

Have a great day!

Thursday

“So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you:
Take your everyday, ordinary life—
your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—
and place it before God as an offering.
Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for Him.” ~Romans 12:1 MSG~

Leave

aaam.jpgWHAT SHOULD WE leave behind when we die…?

A faithful family.

We will leave a mourning family behind on that sad day, but will we leave a faithful one? Will each be on his or her way to heaven? We are not able to make decisions for them, but we will have a great influence on each, especially our children ( Proverbs 22:6).

Sarah left a godly man to mourn ( Genesis 23:2). Abraham left faithful sons behind ( Genesis 18:19; 25:8). Zebedee and Salome gave the world James and John. Lois taught Eunice, who molded Timothy ( 2 Timothy 1:5; 3:15).

If we would leave such a family, we must start NOW, because the years may come when they will not listen ( Ecclesiastes 12:2). No greater legacy can be left than faith in God and faithfulness to His church. (Allen Webster)

“You are the light of the world…” Matthew 5:14a

Wednesday

“And may you have the power to understand,

as all God’s people should,

how wide, how long, how high, and how deep His love is.

May you experience the love of Christ,

though it is too great to understand fully.

Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life

and power that comes from God.”

~Ephesians 3:18-19 NLT~

I have appreciated the La. Baptist Childrn’s Home since I was a child, but much more so after some children I knew made their home there.

Children find success at Baptist Children’s Home
Baoptist Message: June 4, 2009
By:Julie Cupples, LBCH Communications

BATON ROUGE – Jennifer was only eight years old when she came to live at the Louisiana Baptist Children’s Home. She was a broken little girl. She was hurting and she was afraid. The adversity she had already faced in her young life was indescribable.

That was 1998. Today, Jennifer is a lovely young woman of 19. Not only has Jennifer grown physically during the 11 years she has called LBCH home, she has grown emotionally and spiritually as well. Being able to grow up in a stable Christian home with the love and support of Christian Cottage parents changed Jennifer’s life.

On May 14, Jennifer crossed the stage at the Neville High School football stadium to receive her high school diploma. She did it! And her LBCH family was there to cheer her on.

Jennifer’s successes in life haven’t come easy, but they have come. They have come because of God’s undying love shared with her through the ministries of the LBCH.

Every boy and girl in need of the services of LBCH has his or her own story. They each have had their own struggles to overcome.

Jennifer and countless others like her who have come through the doors of LBCH are living proof that with the hope found in Jesus Christ, every individual can persevere and succeed.

LBCH is entering its 110th year of ministry and the adversity children are facing is more difficult than ever. On June 14, the Children’s Home Annual Offering will be received in churches across Louisiana. Your gift during this special time will help children like Jennifer and Jessie and Michael discover hope and success.

Jeremiah 29:11 proclaims, “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not evil, to give you a future and a hope.”

4 Wheels 4 Him trail ride heads south
Baptist Message; June 4, 2009
By:Philip Timothy, Message Staff Writer

KENTWOOD – Gibbie McMillan believes the same excitement, encountered at a 4 Wheels 4 Him trail ride at Tillou Baptist Church in Northeast Louisiana, can be duplicated in Southeast Louisiana.

New Zion Baptist Church   in Kentwood will host the four-wheeler ride on Saturday, June 13. Registration is at 8 a.m. and the ride starts at 9 a.m.

“We believe we have hit upon a way to provide a family with some good, family fun in a Christian setting,” said McMillan, the Louisiana Baptist Convention’s Men’s Ministry and Volunteer strategist. “Just like at Tillou, we will present the Gospel and a short plan of salvation.

“We plan on having our block party trailer, inflatables, praise music, door prizes, and a meal for the participants,” McMillan said.

The trail ride, which is being sponsored by Two Rivers Baptist Association, the LBC’s Men’s Ministry and Evangelism Departments, will cover 6-7 miles of rugged piney woods located deep in St. Helena Parish.

The property sits adjacent to New Zion Baptist Church and riders will gather at the church before breaking up – depending upon the number of people who sign up – into groups of 25 to 40 riders.

The layout will be similar to the one used at Tillou.

“If we get 200 to 250 the first year,” McMillan said, “I feel it will be successful. The first year at Tillou 253 attended.

“The idea has really caught on and has been met favorably by all the churches in the area,” McMillan said. “The response has been tremendous. It does my heart good to see this kind of cooperation and participation amongst the churches,” McMillan said.

The eight Baptist churches in Kentwood are providing the bulk of the volunteers for the event but McMillan said the event is even drawing some support from Mississippi.

The ride, which will take an estimated two hours to complete, will start and finish at the New Zion Baptist Church.

Before the ride starts, the participants will be gathered together, where the Gospel will be presented along with a brief plan of salvation.

Riders will then be instructed about the course and safety features before departing on the ride.

Upon their return, around noon, they will be treated to hamburgers, hot dogs and jambalaya. Door prizes, which have been donated by Bass Pro Shops, Cabela’s, WalMart, and other local businesses will be given following lunch.

The cost is $6 per person and lunch is included. There is also a limited number of t-shirts, so make sure to register early to insure getting one.

For more information, contact Richard Sandberg at 985.514.1171 or McMillan at the LBC, 318.449.4276.

“It is a wonderful, messy day in which a family can get out and enjoy themselves,” McMillan said. “The fellowship, the fun, the good music and the Word of God make for a great deal. So come out and enjoy God’s creation and beauty.”

Crash

acasket.jpgOF THE DOZENS upon dozens of funerals that I have conducted, I have never conducted one where the casket was occupied by anyone who had anything in his hand…

And none of the suits wrapped around those bodies required pockets. “You can’t take it with you.”

Solomon forces us to face that moment we all tend to ignore — the moment of death. He backs up three spaces and looks at the crash and says, “This is the grievous evil: Those who have clutched can quickly crash.” Put another way, “Those who grabbed and rose to the top will ultimately release and drop to the bottom.”

Can you imagine the scene? I envision a man who hoarded what he had and then lost it through a bad investment. I can see another who fights and wins his way to the top, only to have the bottom drop out of his life as the stock market plunges. And how about the individual who spends himself in a maddening pursuit of some financial goal, who drops dead of a heart attack? It happens every day. In Solomon’s words, he “toils for the wind.” He departs exactly as he entered life…naked and without a thin dime to his name. (Charles Swindoll)

“There is a severe evil which I have seen under the sun: riches kept for their owner to his hurt. But those riches perish through misfortune; when he begets a son, there is nothing in his hand. As he came from his mother’s womb, naked shall he return, to go as he came; and he shall take nothing from his labor which he may carry away in his hand” (Eccles. 5:13-15).

Looking forward to what God is going to do today at Vacation Bible School.
