Sunday

“After Herod died,

an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt and said,

‘Get up, take the child and his mother and go to the land of Israel,

for those who were trying to take the child’s life are dead.’”

~Matthew 2:19-20 NIV~

Newton County Sheriff Keith Slape said a young man from Fort Smith fell from Whitaker Point early Saturday morning, and it was the first such instance that Slape has worked in which the victim lived.
Slape said the name of the victim hadn’t been released Saturday afternoon pending notification of family members, but he is either 18 or 19 years old.
Slape explained that two young Fort Smith college students — one who attends the University of Arkansas in Fort Smith, the other who attends the University of Denver — had been to Whitaker Point in May and wanted to return this fall.
They were camping near Whitaker Point, often called Hawksbill Crag, and decided to go down to the crag to look at the stars about 2:30 or 3 a.m. Saturday, Slape said.
One of the youth stepped to the side of the crag to relieve himself and the other one suddenly heard a scream and crashing sounds, Slape said.
The other youth ran for help, looking for cell phone service. He was able to find a spot with some cell service and called the Newton County Sheriff’s Office just before 4 a.m. Saturday. Slape said the youth was only able to get out five words, and the only words audible at the sheriff’s office were “Hawksbill Crag.”
The youth found his way back to their campsite and was able to call the sheriff’s office about 5 a.m. Slape said the Buffalo National River’s High-Angle Rescue Team was notified, along with the U.S. Forest Service, Buffalo Search and Rescue, Newton County Search and Rescue, volunteer fire departments and North Arkansas Regional Medical Center.
Slape said some rescuers repelled down the bluff and others walked in. They found the victim about 100 feet down from the crag. He was unresponsive, but was breathing and had a pulse.
Slape said the victim hit some smaller trees and broke branches on the way down, which was in part the reason for his survival.
The victim was loaded into a Stokes basket and raised up the bluff, where an NARMC crew was able to get him out of the forest and to the hospital for treatment.
The victim’s condition was unavailable Saturday afternoon, but Slape said he was seriously injured.
“I’d definitely say he’s critical,” Slape said.

Thank you all so much for your prayers it is a great comfort to me to know prayers are going out for my precious son Austin. I am being told he fell 100 feet and my little guy is a fighter. The staff at the hospital are in awe of him. I just saw him and feel like the wind has been kicked out of me but they are preparing us that the brain swelling could get worse they were not successful at putting a tube in his head to drain the fluid so they are using medication and it’s almost ran it’s course they may have to do surgery and put a flap in to relieve the pressure. They said tonight and the next four days will determine the next year. I believe in God and His miracles and the power of prayer.

We just arrived at the hospital and got to see Austin. He is on a ventelator because he bruised lungs, one collapsed, bruised spleen, kidney and liver, broken tail bone, broken pelvic bones and swollen brain with some bleeding. Waiting on CT scan to come back.

Thanks papa.. Austin needs all the prayers he can get right now. They tried to put a shunt in to relieve pressure on the brain but didn’t work because of swelling. Trying to use meds, but if that doesn’t work they will have to put him into a comatose, paralyze him, and put a flap on his brain. It’s all temporary, but the nurse tonight was trying to prepare mom and dad for that because its a high chance they will have to. Pray for brain swelling and his fever to go down!

Saturday

“Dear children,

let us stop just saying we love each other;

let us really show it by our actions.”

~1 John 3:18 NLT~

I’m sure all of you have seen the picture of the New York policeman who bought socks and boots for a homeless man.  He certainly showed love with his actions.  He didn’t do it for publicity though.  I have also been hearing lots of stories of Random Acts of Kindness such as buying the meal of the person behind you at a drive-through.  I think the Christmas season is an ideal time to put into practice the above verse.

Tomorrow, Southern Baptists will begin a week of pray for the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering.  This is the fund that supports 50% of the funds for all our international missions.  100% of the money given to this fund will be used for throughout the world to share the message about Jesus that can save lives for a home in heaven for eternity.  During this time we will learn how to BE His heart, hands and voice, no matter the cost?”

Friday

That you may love the Lord your God,

listen to his voice,

For the Lord is your life,

and he will give you many years in the land he swore to give to your fathers,

Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.”

~Deuteronomy 30:20 NIV~

Mr. Billy Travis’ surgery was postponed until 7 A.M. this morning.  That give time for more praying for him and for his family.

Thankfulness: Day 30

I’m thankful for sweet memories and thankful for “treasures” I have that bring these memories to mind.  I’m a sentimental person and love to be surrounded by my “treasures”, many of which most people would not allow in their homes.  To me they are valuable, not for their real worth, but for the people and events they remind me of.  I hope you have some special “treasures” too.

Thanks for putting up with my thankfulness series.  I’ll be back with a new list in November 2013.

The Sunday School literature that did not arrive for us last week is scheduled to be here this afternoon.  Call the FBC,K office this afternoon to see if it is here..  If so, your books will be available for pickup until 5:00 P.M.

“I have set you as a light to the Gentiles,

that you should be for salvation to the ends of the earth.”

~Acts 13:47~

Thankfulness: Day 29

I’m thankful for willing workers.  They might be willing to do different things, but they are willing to do various tasks without expecting to get paid or even thanked.  I appreciate those who notice needs in their homes, jobs, churches, and communities and gladly meet those needs.  I believe more people notice the needs, than meet the needs, but I’m especially thankful for those who do both.

Rene Deck was at church last night.  She is doing well following her surgery.  Susie Sharkey and Elizabeth Carol New will both have surgery next week.  Pray all goes well during surgery and recovery is complete and timely.

Jimmy Schwartz continues to improve at home.  Keep him in your prayers.

Pray for Mr. Billy Travis and his family as he has a serious surgery today.

Pray for Sam Liberto as he recovers from some stents he received last week.

Continue to pray for the homebound as the colder weather tends to make them stay in even more.

The Georgia Barnett goal at FBC,K was exceeded by about $75.00.  Thank-you to all who gave to help win the lost in Louisiana.

The anual senior adult Christmas lunch will be Wednesday, Dec. 5th at 11 a.m.  We will have a guest entertainer you will enjoy.

Two associational Christmas opportunities

  • Stamped religious Christmas cards for the inmates of the parish jails
  • New unwrapped Christmas toys for children of migrant workers

The deadline for these two projects is Wednesday, December 5th at FBC,K.  Goals in other churches may vary slightly.

Looking ahead, the annual Lottie Moor Christmas Tea for our association will be Sunday, December 30th at 2 P.M. at FBC, K.  This is an opportunity to join with other ladies and girls to learn more about Lottie Moon and our annual offering for international missions.

Pray for each of us to be more willing when we notice needs or are asked to help meet needs.
