Friday

[The Birth of Jesus Foretold]

In the sixth month of Elizabeth’s pregnancy, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee, to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of David.

The virgin’s name was Mary.

The angel went to her and said, “Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.”

~Luke 1:26-28 (NIV)~

Last night I tracked some of the shoeboxes FBC sent.  I learned some went to Mexico, Haiti, Ecuador, and some went to “Hard to Reach Areas”.  That last area had never appeared on my list before, so I did some research.  This is what I found.

You can go to the following site to learn more about hard to reach areas.

https://www.samaritanspurse.org/operation-christmas-child-countries/hard-to-reach-areas/

This excites me.  I pray the boys and girls who receive the shoeboxes will learn about and accept Jesus into their hearts.

My David received another good report yesterday.  David saw his retina specialist who helped him be able to see following cataract surgeries.  Yesterday, the doctor checked David’s eyes and said it was another miracle that they eyes are not experiencing more problems.  We thank God for the good report and for the wonderful Christian doctor who helped David get through a very difficult experience.

Gayle Owens (Shared by Johnny)

I would like to thank everyone again for all the prayers, concern and comments for Gayle Owens. She is doing better, still in hospital. Has a bad bacterial infection in her stomach which is very contagious. Those of you who asked about visiting please do not do so at this time. Trying to get her over it and not give it to anyone else. She walked a little on Saturday but very weak. Her stats were good when walking, heart beat got up but came down quickly as it should. Still having some shortness of breath issues. Her cough came back but meds did their job and stopped it. She may be here for another day or so just do not know at this time. I am hoping she will not be released until the infection is gone and she is walking better and stronger. She will probably disagree…Thanks again for everything.

Saturday

4 But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared,

5 he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit,

6 whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior,

7 so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life.

Update from the Sylvester Humphrey:

Endosonographic finding today for Sylvester. Today’s exam consistent with invasive cancer. It is a stage T1b tumor in the upper 1/3 of the esophagus. Preferred curative treatment is surgical resection. If Sylvester is averse to this, which he is, could consider referral to Ochsner NO for evaluation of endoscopic resection/treatment with photodynamic therapy vs Radio frequency therapy. The ENT just called and she will be getting in touch with someone at Ochsner NO in the next day or so. Thank you all for your prayers. We love all of you. Trusting God to do what is best and give us and the doctors discernment.

(You may know Sylvester from the Amite post office or the Hope Center in Roseland.

Saturday

[The Word Became Flesh]

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

He was with God in the beginning.

The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us.

We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

~John 1:1-2, 14 (NIV)~

Today, I want to share Dr. Waylon Bailey’s post entitled “I Love God’s Promises”.  He is the senior pastor of FBC, Covington and has been there since 1989.

http://waylonbailey.com/2018/11/29/i-love-gods-promises/

To get ourselves prepared for Christmas, many people start on December 1st and read one chapter of Luke each day.  Today’s reading is Luke 1.  (If you have been reading the suggested passages I post each day, you will already have done this and will be on Luke 24 today.

Read the Bible

  • Hosea 7-8
  • Psalms 137
  • Luke 24

The Lottie Moon Tea is tomorrow afternoon at 2 P.M. at East Fork Baptist Church.  The tea is for all ladies from three to one hundred three.  There is no charge, but you can participate in missions by bringing some stamped Christmas cards.  The cards will be delivered to the parish jails in Amite and Greensburg.  I remember seeing one of those cards that was written to grandparents one year.  I know they felt such a blessing as they treasured that card.  I wish I had known who provided that card so I could have let the family express their appreciation.  You never know who will get the cards you send and who will be reading the card later, but know this.  The cards are important in touching lives.  Your card can make a big difference in a family.  While you are at the tea, you will be blessed to hear some of our area children share Christmas songs.  Let’s teach our little ones there is much more to Christmas than a jolly man in a red suit.

The senior adults of FBC, Kentwood will be honored with a holiday meal Wednesday at 11 A.M. in the fellowship hall.

Josiah Huckaby

Quick update on little man:

Since Josiah never got a swallow study in the hospital, our speech therapist didn’t feel comfortable trying baby food as an outpatient. So today he had his 1st swallow study…and even though he was mad & crying the entire time (because he decided not to take a nap today & he was being restrained) he did great!!! He now gets to start working in eating baby food & chewing on hard munchables (like carrot sticks & puffs). With no limitations on the amount of baby food he eats…they said to “just feed that boy”. 😁

Also, he has a heart cath scheduled for Monday (12/3) to check his right upper pulmonary vein that was balloned in October 2017. His pulmonary hypertension hasn’t improved since it slightly increased while he was sick with a UTI in August. So there is some concern that that pulmonary vein may be starting to narrow again causing the increase in his pulmonary hypertension. They can’t get a good look at it on his echos so they want to be certain that nothing is being missed.

This boy is growing so much & his little personality continues to blossom. He keeps us on our toes with all his shenanigans! He has come so far in the last 5 months. To God be the glory!!! 💙💛💙

David

The colon test did not show a problem, so possibly all David’s issues relate to his MDS.  David  got a unit of blood yesterday and will have a TTE and heart conversion today.  Keep praying and give God the glory for all the medical knowledge and procedures available to those with a need.  David’s procedures this week have been at Ochsner in Covington  and Baton Rouge (two days)  and Lakeview in Covington today.  We’re thankful to be able to get around to those with more training and knowledge than we have,

Read the Bible

  • Hosea 5-6
  • Proverbs 19
  • Luke 23

The Lottie Moon Tea is Sunday at two at East Fork.  Please bring stamped Chrsitmas cards so we can deliver them to the parish jail.

I trust you will see God working in your life today.
