Sunday

“Do not let sin control the way you live;

do not give in to sinful desires . . .

Instead, give yourselves completely to God, for you were dead, but now you have new life.

So use your whole body as an instrument to do what is right for the glory of God.”

~Romans 6:12-13 (NLT)~

So far, most people have remained healthy.  Continue to ““play it safe” and STAY HOME.  Some people seem to be disobeying the orders to do that.  I’m afraid they will be among the sick in a week.  Use the pick-up services available in multiple locations.  Do not allow anyone inside your house, except the home health nurse!  Keep children away from their grandparents, etc.  because they are often carriers of the coronavirus.  Today, this Lord’s Day, more churches will be live-streaming their services.  Be sure to look at two or three.  If you do go out, make it a trip around the community to pray for people as you ride by their homes.  Stay in your car.  Don’t stop anywhere!  Use your phone to check on people.  If you deliver something to a home, leave it on the porch and knock and call.  Then, quickly leave.

Today, the Operation Christmas Child team was scheduled to visit Sunday School classrooms to take suggestions for April purchases.   You will have to be creative to make these purchases without going shopping in person, but I know you can do this.  Happy April Shopping!  Two new rules:

  1. Don’t enter any stores to purchase these.  Use your phone or internet.
  2. Have the items delivered to the church.  They can sit at the church and and be waiting for when this isolation period is over.

Charlotte, Danielle Thornton’s infant niece, had her surgery in New Orleans yesterday.  All went well.  Please continue to pray for Charlotte and her family.

Jacob Martello‘s oral surgery went well yesterday.  Pray for him and his caregivers as he recovers.  Pray he doesn’t need a possible second surgery.

Robin Alford had another surgery on her ankle yesterday.  It went well.  Now, Robin only has ten more weeks of not being able to put any weight on her foot.  Keep her in your prayers.  Thankfully, she is still able to do work from home.

Josiah Huckaby got to go home from the hospital yesterday.  Can you imagine the smiles on Job’s and KK’s faces?  Please continue to pray for this sweet family.

Gary Faller, a distant cousin, is improving from having pneumonia, but fell yesterday and broke his hip.  He has no family near him, so he needs extra prayers.

Wulfgar Tannis Saizan

November 24, 2001 – March 22, 2020

“When you stand by the Gate of Death and you have to tear free, I shall follow you across the Resounding Bridge with my song. You will be free from the bonds that bind you.”

On March 22, 2020, Wulfgar Tannis Saizan’s life came to an abrupt end in the same wails for which it began, on November 24, 2001. A strong young man with a passionate and generous heart. He will be dearly missed here. Our comfort is found in that now he resides in the loving arms of those whom preceded him in death. Beloved Grandmother, Johnnie Saizan Jenkins and Grandfather, Herman Eicke. We will weep, but our merciful Father has granted him freedom from the bonds that Earth provides. There is only hunting, fishing, and the super heroes he so greatly admired now. He is loved. Survived by father, Frank Saizan, and mother, Peggy Saizan with grandmother, Peggy Eicke; Wulfgar was the most precious ‘big’ little brother to sisters Carla, Samantha, and Elizabeth could ask for. He leaves behind a host of family, such as an uncle, aunts, cousins, niece and nephew. They will all surely miss his infectious laughter and hugs as if given by the oak trees themselves. Services to be held privately in Kentwood, Louisiana. Love, Dad.

Make your plans today to check on some friends/neighbors/family via phone today and to WATCH some church services tomorrow that are live-streamed.  Be thankful for today’s situation.  It could be so much worse!

Read the Bible in 2020 = March 28

  • Deuteronomy 9:1-10:22
  • Luke 8:4-21
  • Psalm 69:19-36
  • Proverbs 12:2-3

Stay home except to get groceries and medicine (and possibly a short ride when you do not stop and get out of your vehicle.  You can enjoy some of the beautiful spring flowers God has provided for us to enjoy).

Wednesday

“God does speak—

sometimes one way and sometimes another—

even though people may not understand it.”

~Job 33:14 (NCV)~

David and I have completed two weeks of quarantine.  It’s not totally different from our regular routine.  The road certainly does seem empty out here!  It’s a lot quieter than just our normal “peaceful”.  Join with me in praying for others to remain in quarantine and slow down the spread of Coronavirus.

I’m so thankful churches have stepped up and are posting sermons or services online.  I already have a list of Wednesday night services I want to watch.  You can’t do that when you have to attend in person.  Let’s continue to look for the “silver linings”.  The Methodist church is requesting all members stop at noon today and say the Lord’s Prayer.  I’m sure they won’t mind if some non-Methodists join in with them.

Continuing my song list today . . .

  • “In His Hands”
  • “Til the Storm Passes By”
  • “His Eye is on the Sparrow” – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gua-NE8y8lE

This was done in 1952.  It seems so appropriate today!  Maybe, today is a                               good day to teach this song to some of our younger generation.

I trust parents are building strong children with strong faith during this                                 time.

During this time when patients cannot have family members with them in hospitals, doctor offices, clinics, nursing homes, etc. it is very hard on the patients and the family.  It’s also hard on families when there is a death and the services are so limited.

Encourage someone today!

Tuesday

“Even now,” declares the LORD, “return to me with all your heart, with fasting and weeping and mourning.”  Rend your heart and not your garments.

Return to the LORD your God, for he is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love, and he relents from sending calamity.

Louisiana’s governor, Jon Bel Edwards, has called for day of prayer and fasting today.  I think Louisiana could use all the prayers today.

Yesterday, as we went for David’s blood work and grocery pick-up, I was pleased to see the number of people wearing masks.  We wore masks too!  I’m thankful for the people who are making masks to share and for those medical professionals who are sharing their supply with others.

My special prayer concern today is for those hospitalized without family members with them and for family members who cannot be with their loved loves,

I will post again to include the song of the day.  Check back later.

I watched four church services yesterday.  Jason’s church suggested having children make “Loving One Another Cards”.  I think this would be wonderful for adults too.  Once your cards are made, they can be left in the mailbox for the mail carrier or dropped in the outdside box at the post office.  Even when housebound, do your part to minister to others.

Here’s my song list for today.  I hope you sing along.

World Down Syndrome Day 2020 & Josiah Huckaby

Not how we planned to spend it. We didn’t get to wear our cute shirts or crazy socks but we did have fun. Although we sure are missing daddy! I’m just glad technology allows us the opportunity to see each other during hospital stays.

Josiah has definitely been making improvements on his oxygen. They did quite a bit of weaning today. Hopefully he will continue to do well on the new oxygen settings tonight.

To God be the glory! 💙💛💙💛💙

Most of us will be at home today and watching our church service via live-streaming video.  Many will not have the opportunity to attend a Sunday School class.  There are several option:

  • Each person prepares their lesson and discusses it.
  • One person teaches the family each week.
  • Watch a video and discuss it as a family group.

Bible project will be giving us a video to watch as a family each week.  Then, discussion can follow.  The lesson for today is “Generosity”.

https://bibleproject.com/videos/generosity/?utm_medium=email&utm_source=newsletter&utm_campaign=quarantinemail&utm_content=generosity

  • I suggest doing your Sunday School during your church’s regular Sunday School time.

Churches present the worship service online.

  • Most churches will present the worship service online, many of them doing so for the first time today.
  • If your church is not live-streaming this morning or if you choose to watch multiple services as we did last week. you will have plenty of opportunities.  On Facebook, join Kentwood First Baptist Church at 10:30 A.M., 6 P.M. today, and 6 P.M. Wednesday.  I think following the normal schedule will keep us from feeling like we are missing out as much.

Now that hospitals are not allowing any visitors like the special living facilities, we need to pray extra hard for both the patients/residents and the family members.  What a change this is!

David and I haven’t been out in days.  He makes a lot of calls to check on people.  If you have a name for me to add to The Prayer Link, please send me a  message like Danielle Thornton did yesterday.  I will be glad to add your prayer concerns.

Here’s my song list for today.  I hope you sing along.

Make this “Lord’s Day” special and one you and your family will remember for a long time.

Saturday Additions

Danielle Thornton’s sister, Sara, has a young daughter, Charlotte, who was born earlier this week and was transferred to New Orleans yesterday.  Tests continue to be done, but the results are not looking good.  Please pray for this infant and her family.

David Cutrer asks us to pray for his daughter who had major surgery yesterday in Baton Rouge.  It’s extra hard on parents when they cannot be with their sick children.  David also invites you to watch their church service tomorrow as they live-stream on Facebook for the first time.                          *Roseland Pentecostal Church*

Saturday

I lost my post this morning.  Even Jason cannot find it, so here I go again.  This will be in an abbreviated form.

“But blessed is the one who trusts in the LORD, whose confidence is in him.

They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream.

It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green.

It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.”

I read about making masks to supplement the current short supply.  Jennie made/is making some to share with her neighbors.  Now, Julie is joining the project. If you have supplies, you may want to make some to share.  The patterns are available online.

Josiah Huckaby

  • 19th -And in the blink of an eye…we are back in the hospital!

We went for an appointment in Memphis today & he started having some respiratory trouble. They went ahead & sent us home from clinic but told us to come back to the ER if he got worse. Half way home he got really flushed looking & was having more trouble. We checked his temp & it was 104.6 so we turned around & came back to the ER. I always have Tylenol with us so we gave that & by the time we got back to Memphis his temp was down to 101.9 and was at 100.5 about 2 hours ago. So far his X-ray shows pneumonia in his left lung, they have started antibiotics, & they are running some tests to determine if he has a bacterial or viral infection. We are still in the ER but hopefully we will be in a room soon.

To God be the glory! Job Huckaby

  • 20th -Update: We have had several people asking if Josiah was tested for COVID-19. Due to the new hospital protocols for admission to the PICU, he did fall under the guidelines for testing. His test came back negative this afternoon. Praise the Lord! His FLU/RSV tests came back negative, as well as the respiratory viral panel they ran. They also swapped him to a hospital vent last night for 2 purposes: due to the new protocols in place & so they could better control adjusting his settings throughout the night. They were able to put him back on his home vent this evening. He’s still requiring a lot of oxygen but they have been able to keep all his other settings at our home levels. He also hasn’t had a fever since last night.

Thank y’all so much for praying for our family! To God be the glory!!! ❤️ Job Huckaby

This morning I saw photos of the Samaritan’s Purse portable hospital I told you about.  It reminded me of the good work some organizations do.  Feel free to support them.

I told you about singing The Doxology while washing your hands to make sure you are washing long enough.

This morning, in making a comment to a FB friend, I used the phrase, “in times like this”.  That led me to my second song for today – “In Times Like This”.

As I was working on this I was reminded of another favorite – “One Day at a Time” – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IEtKfyvTHig&list=PLwLMaSuIV0XGegRiJLFmqPZPuzc9Vd1Hh&index=23

As I reflected on the last few days, I was reminded to friends who called or dropped food off at the house (porch only) – “Make Me a Blessing” – You never know what a blessing you are to others.  A phone call from you may be the only voice some people hear today other than the voices on the television.

Here’s my song list for today.  I hope you sing along.

  • “The Doxology” (Remember to add the “Amen” at the end.)
  • “In Times Like These”
  • “One Day at a Time”
  • “Make Me a Blessing”

God is still in control.  He loves us.  He has us in His hands – another song for tomorrow.

Think of God and others.  Don’t have a pity party!  We are all in this!  Support and encourage one another!

Friday

Today is day ten of our quarantine which was imposed by our children.  I see many more ahead.  We certainly have wise children who look out for us.  I’m glad I have several Operation Christmas Child crafts I can work on at this time.

Refrain from anger and turn from wrath;

do not fret—it leads only to evil.

Church will be livestreamed only!  We will not be attending services at FBC, Kentwood for a while, but all services will be available on the Kentwood, First Baptist Church FB page.   You can watch services in real time or any time you choose.

  • Sunday @ 10:30 A.M. and 6 P.M.
  • Wednesday @ 6 P.M.

I’m thankful my church has been doing this for a while and has worked through some of the problems that arose.

We will not have Sunday School at this time, but you certainly can use your present book and study on your own.

I have a thought.  Each day choose one word (faith, peace. love, hope, compassion, etc.) each day.  Look that word up in your Bible, phone, computer, etc.  Make an entry in a notebook information you gain and how that word applies to you at this time.

We are in this together.  Don’t forget to check on others via phone or computer.  Person visits are not good at this time.

Anna Lee

Stay in unless you HAVE to get out.  David and I have found a little ride, with no stops, helps us some afternoons.  We are blessed to be able to continue David’s medical treatment during this time.  I will be sitting in the car while he goes in Ochsner alone.

Services Wednesday

McKneely Funeral Home, HAMMOND

David and I watched two church services yesterday, FBC, Kentwood and West Rome Baptist Church in Georgia.  The message I got from both of them was to have faith, not fear.  I talked with my sister, Julie.  She said that was the message she received from the service in Hammond she watched.  Let’s practice FAITH!

I read the new guidelines saying there will be for no crowds greater than fifty people.  We will see how creative people are to manage gatherings and still manage to gather.  I know it can be done.

Mrs. Ann Chapman sent this update.

Our Emma is now back at MS College. Deloy and Krisa are there and will be bringing her home in the morning. Deloy’s office has closed and he will be working from home the next two weeks. Krisa, being a nurse, has been given the OK to work. We continue to pray that Emma stays clear of the virus. I will be chatting with her across the fence only, but that is fine just to see her smiling face will be a blessing. God bless each of you. Stay safe.
My love, Ann

Karen Seymour, a former student, is one of many people we know who has health issues that make it dangerous for her to be sick.  Let’s pray for her and many others who already have heath issues and now deal with this virus all around.  Pray to God for guidance in staying healthy and in helping others stay healthy too.

Pray for the health care workers and others who are on the front lines of fighting this medical battle.  Maybe, you can find a way to help one or more of them this week.

Read the Bible in 2020 – March 15

  • Numbers 22:21-23:30
  • Luke 1:57-80
  • Psalm 58:1-11
  • Proverbs 11:12-13

Today, take a break from watching the news and count your blessings.  I’m sure you will be able to list many.  Mine include:

  • Having God’s peace about everything
  • My Bible to read for comfort
  • Having David by my side as we go through this
  • Having my computer and television to watch services and medical updates
  • Telephones to stay connected to family and friends
  • Ochsner hospital will screen those who enter, but still will be available to give treatment
  • Family and friends who are only a phone call away
  • Food in the pantry and freezers
  • Walmart grocery pick-up
  • Many things I love to do at home
  • Ability and materials to craft for Operation Christmas Child  even when we cannot go shopping for shoebox items
  • ETC.

Now, make your own list.  It will make you feel better.
