What A Friend We Have in Jesus

What a Friend we have in Jesus, all our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry everything to God in prayer!
O what peace we often forfeit, O what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry everything to God in prayer.

Have we trials and temptations? Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged; take it to the Lord in prayer.
Can we find a friend so faithful who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our every weakness; take it to the Lord in prayer.

Are we weak and heavy laden, cumbered with a load of care?
Precious Savior, still our refuge, take it to the Lord in prayer.
Do your friends despise, forsake you? Take it to the Lord in prayer!

Prayer: It Jesus if not your “friend”, ask someone how He can be your best friend and more.  If He is you “friend”, take time to thank him and to visit with him.

His first time at church

A young man left his country of Sri Lanka to earn money and help his family back home.  Sri Lanka is a large island nation near India. It is one of the countries that was hit by the huge storm in 2004—the tsunami. Most of the people are Buddhist and don’t know Jesus as Savior.

This young man became a lifeguard at a resort then met some Christians.  He went to their house church meeting—it was the first time he had ever been to church.  The Christians found him a Bible and the JESUS film in his language.

Now we need to pray that he will want to watch the video and read God’s Word.  Pray that he will learn that Jesus can provide for all his needs.

Prayer Requests from Missionary Kids

Please pray for my grandparents.  My mom’s dad is sick with a lung disease called emphysema. My dad’s dad and his brother both just had surgery.  My dad’s mom tore a muscle. My dogs: I miss them and they’re probably very sad.  Thanks for your prayers. PRISCILA, age 12 (American peoples)

My people group is 90% muslin (Muslim).  Every time I try to witness, they turn their head and walk away.  So please pray for my family and I. ALISON, age 12 ½  (Southeast Asian peoples)

There is a girl in my class that is coming to youth group please pray that she will come to know the Lord and learn more about Him and His Word.  Thank God for her coming to youth.  There is a boy in my class that I have been trying to get to come to youth but he always has excuses.  Please pray that he will come and know Him and learn more about Him.  MEREDITH, age 13 (Sub-Saharan African peoples)

David Allen is about the same.  Please keep praying for David, the family, and the medical staff caring for David.

Margurite Vernon has been at Landmark Nursing Home three weeks.  Pray for her, her family, and those caring for her.

Mrs. Maxine Turner has been in North Oaks,  She’s waiting on a specialist to see her before she is released.  Pray for the family, especially Frances, her sister, who misses her so much.

Mrs. Nadine Rimes got good news Tuesday.  She has now been released from the doctor’s care following her recent hip surgery.  She’s looking good and getting around very well.  Thank God for her progress.

Mr. Cete Dillon continues to improve from his recent eye and sinus problems.  Thank God for his progress.

Mrs. Faye Price has been back in North Oaks.  Pray for her and her family.  This long journey began early last December.  It’s been a long, hard journey for all of them.

Please add Mrs. Maxine Turner to your prayer list.  She is hospitalized at North Oaks.  As you pray for her, please remember to add her family, especially her sister, Frances Strickland.  I know your prayers will be greatly appreciated.

Continue to pray for David Allen.  Pray for his lungs to improve today.  Also, pray for his family, especially Fannie, the children, and his parents.  The family is very thankful to know you are praying.

Pray for those who are undergoing tests and/or treatment for various problems.

Continue to pray for my family as we are in the midst of numerous appointments for my parents and continual monitoring of my mother.  I’m thankful for the progress that has been made and the assistance from my sisters.  It’s a real blessing that we all live in this area.  Keep us in your prayers.

Shortfall stirs quick response; 25 more missionaries able to go overseas

I know of one area church that took on the challenge of sending one of this missionary units above and beyond their usual mission offering.  One Sunday they collected more than enough to meet the needs for an entire year.  That’s what missions is about!  Those who cannot/do not go can support others through prayer and giving.

BOOKSTORE SHELVES ARE full of books on marriage, many of them describing the reasons marriages fail…

Such books are usually written by therapists, who spend their time working with clients whose marriages are experiencing meltdown.  A great deal can obviously be learned from marital pathology.  We need to know why marriages fail.  But the absence of death doesn’t mean the presence of health.  Many marriages are sick but never die in divorce or separation.  So the most important question is why some marriages thrive and enjoy vigorous good health.  Models of succes are priceless in a world filled with failures.  That’s why Ephesians 5 helps us, by illuminating three essential qualities of a thriving marriage: sacrifice, intimacy, and Christ.  Gary Inrig

Sherry called last night to report David Allen is being treated for double viral pneumonia.  Plans are to keep him less sedated.  Eli, his son, posted on David’s facebook page,  Your prayers are greatly appreciated.

Please continue to pray for Ronnie Hayden as he recovers from surgery at North Oaks.

“IT IS MOST likely that in the Apostolic age when there was but ‘one Lord, one faith, and one baptism,’ and no differing denominations existed, that baptism of a convert by that very act constituted him a member of the church, and at once endowed him with all the rights and privileges of full membership…
In that sense, ‘baptism was the door into the church.’  Now it is different…” (Edward T. Hiscox, The Standard Manual For Baptist Churches, Published by The American Baptist Publication Society, 1890, p. 14).
Kind questions:
.  Why is it different today?  Should it be different?
.  Why do we have so many different churches today, when it is freely admitted that there was only one system of faith (cf. Ephesians 4:5) in the Apostolic age?  (Denominationalism, by its own admission is composed of thousands of religious groups, often wearing different man-made names, teaching conflicting religious doctrines, and endorsing contradictory practices).
.  Since Jesus prayed for unity and oneness (cf. John 17:20-21), how can we justify religious division today?
.  How did Paul respond on those occasions when weak and immature brethren in the first century attempted to denominate and fracture themselves (1 Corinthians 1:11-13; cf. 3:1ff)?
.  How many churches did Jesus promise to build (Matthew 16:18)?
.  Since Christ is the bridegroom and the church is His bride, how can He be married to thousands of different churches and not be guilty of polygamy?  Did Jesus endorse “one man for one woman for life” (cf. Matthew 19), yet practice “one Man for thousands of women” Himself?
.  Since a bride wears the name of her bridegroom, why would anyone wish to wear any name other than that of Christ’s?
.  How many approved denominations can you read about in the New Testament?
.  Did the apostles, who were guided into all truth (John 16:13), ever encourage men to join the church of their choice (Galatians 3:27; cf. Acts 2)?
Consider the words of John Wesley, noted Methodist leader of long ago.  He wrote, “Would to God that all party names and unscriptural phrases and forms which have divided the Christian world were forgotten: and that we might all agree to sit down together as humble, loving disciples at the feet of a common Master, to hear His word, imbibe His Spirit, and transcribe His life in our Own” (Wesley’s Notes on the New Testament, p. 7).
