Will you please put Jean Carter DiMauro on the prayer list. We got a call last night that she has stopped breathing and was already turning blue. By the time they got her to the hospital she was in a comma and was on life surport. My Skip my brother in law call this morning and said her body has shut down and they don’t look for her to make it though the day.

Dear Intercessors, this is Eleanor Witcher of the Office of Global Prayer Strategy, asking you to pray for movies and radio programs to have a positive influence on those who watch and hear.

The opening scene begins with a young man, Kareem, walking down the street of the economic capital of the country, Casablanca (meaning “white house”). Later in the film, he is joined by his life-long friend, Adil. Both of these young men live difficult lives. Their days are filled with mischief on the streets, struggles at home, and simply trying to figure out their purpose in life. While these two young men are characters in a critically acclaimed film, “Casa Negra,” the lives their characters portray are very real and astonishing. “Casa Negra” is a Moroccan film that shows the deep, dark secrets of the city and its misfits, and brings to light the difficulties that many young Moroccan Arabs face.

“In the Bible, does Jesus actually say He is God?” asked A and J. The Hausa Team has known these two young men for over three years. They have endeared themselves like adopted sons. They have been and continue to be well educated in Islam. A and J have often watched the ‘JESUS’ film. They acknowledge that they believe Jesus’ teachings are good, but they have difficulty acknowledging that Jesus is anything more than a prophet. A couple of weeks ago, J said, “We have never known Christians like you, and now I find myself caught between Islam and what you are telling us.”

* Please pray for A and J that they will fully embrace the love of Jesus.

* Intercede for believers as they work on various Christian radio and film projects.

* Pray for Hausa and Moroccan youths to be able to learn about the Way so that when they are old, they will not depart from God’s truth.

THE BLESSING OF BEING SINGLE

Sophie and Shirley, two elderly widows in a Florida adult community, are curious about the latest arrival in their building — a quiet, nice looking gentleman who keeps to himself.

Shirley says,” Sophie, you know I’m shy.  Why don’t you go over to him at the pool and find out a little about him. He looks so lonely.”

Sophie agrees, and later that day at the pool, she walks up to him and says, “Excuse me, mister.  I hope I’m not prying, but my friend and I were wondering why you looked so lonely.”

“Of course I’m lonely, he says, “I’ve spent the past 20 years in prison.”

“You’re kidding!  What for?”

“For killing my third wife.  I strangled her.”

“What happened to your second wife?”

“I shot her.”

“And, if I may ask, your first wife?”

“We had a fight and she fell off a building.”

“Oh my,” says Sophie.  Then turning to her friend on the other side of the pool, she yells, “Yoo hoo, Shirley.  He’s single!”

It worries me when I see single people overly anxious to find a mate. Perhaps, though, we have contributed to the situation by treating singleness like it’s some sort of disease.  Singles often comment that they feel out of place at church (activities tend to be family-oriented) and feel they are sometimes regarded as less important than married people. While marriage is a God-ordained institution, I think we do a disservice by suggesting that singles are somehow “incomplete” until they find that “certain someone.”

The truth is, while Paul held marriage in high regard (Eph. 5), he preferred being single and recommended it to Christians at Corinth in the difficult situation they were facing (I Cor. 7).  Single Christians have the opportunity to serve God in ways that married Christians would have difficulty doing.  Of course, the opposite is also true.

So what is the lesson to be learned?  Whatever situation you find yourself in, seek to serve God with all your heart.  If you are single, use your singleness to serve God as best as you can.  And if you’re married, use your married status to do the same.

“But as God has distributed to each one, as the Lord has called each one, so let him walk…..keeping the commandments of God is what matters.” (I Cor. 7:17,19b)

Early in the spring of 1905, my hus­band and I were so­journ­ing in El­mi­ra, New York. We con­tract­ed a deep friend­ship for a cou­ple by the name of Mr. and Mrs. Doo­lit­tle—true saints of God. Mrs. Doo­lit­tle had been bed­rid­den for nigh twen­ty years. Her hus­band was an in­cur­a­ble crip­ple who had to pro­pel him­self to and from his bus­i­ness in a wheel chair. De­spite their af­flict­ions, they lived hap­py Christ­ian lives, bring­ing in­spir­a­tion and com­fort to all who knew them. One day while we were vi­sit­ing with the Doo­lit­tles, my hus­band com­ment­ed on their bright hope­ful­ness and asked them for the se­cret of it. Mrs. Doo­lit­tle’s re­ply was sim­ple: “His eye is on the spar­row, and I know He watch­es me.” The beau­ty of this sim­ple ex­press­ion of bound­less faith gripped the hearts and fired the imag­in­a­tion of Dr. Mar­tin and me. The hymn “His Eye Is on the Spar­row” was the out­come of that ex­per­i­ence.

David Allen has been doing okay the last few days.  Continue to pray for him and his family.  There will be a jambalaya benefit for him at FBC, Kentwood Sunday.  Donations will be received when you pick up your bos(es).

KOMpray (Kids on Mission Pray)

Dancing on tip-toe

The people of Central Asia love to dance.  The folk dances performed at celebrations and festivals can be really hard to do.  The men move with strong arm motions.  The women dance nimbly on tip-toe and look like they are floating across the stage. They look so graceful. They wear long dresses that hide the really fast movement of their feet.  Everyone dances in a circle, and then some women step into the circle and whirl around.  They all clap gently.

It’s a little like the way the Circassian (sir-KAY-shun) women of the North Caucasus* live every day.  They look graceful and calm on the surface, but they are working hard to provide for their families. One woman’s husband does almost nothing to support the family.  She has a disabled child. And she has some health problems too.

Several Christian women have made friends with her.  They pray for her and read the Bible with her. Would you pray for her too?  We call her M.  Pray that she will trust Jesus to help her with all of her problems. Pray for M to learn to love Jesus just like her friends do.

*The North Caucasus is just north of Georgia—not the state but the country!

Prayer Requests from Missionary Kids

Pray for “Gustavo”—he is a deaf man who is Paraguay’s first deaf Pastor.  He is also very poor.  He lives in the attic in the church.  But it is only 15 X 15 long and wide.  He has a deaf wife and a hearing pastor so please pray for his work and family.  Thank you.  ALYSE, age 11 (American peoples)

Please pray for T.  He is one of my friends.  Please also pray that kids in China will learn about Jesus.  AIDEN, age 8 (East Asian peoples)

IT WAS A 99 degree September day in San Antonio, when a 10-month-old baby girl was accidently locked inside a parked car by her aunt…

Frantically the mother and aunt ran around the auto in near hysteria, while a neighbor attempted to unlock the car with a clothes hanger. Soon the infant was turning purple and had foam on her mouth.

It had become a life-or-death situation when Fred Arriola, a wrecker driver, arrived on the scene. He grabbed a hammer and smashed the back window of the car to set her free.

Was he heralded a hero? “The lady was mad at me because I broke the window,” Arriola reported. “I just thought, What’s more important — the baby or the window?”

A MAN IN his sixties was walking down the street of a modern subdivision…
In his hand was a scrap of paper from a doctor’s office with a name and address scribbled in pencil.  As the man approached the house, he waded the paper and pushed it into his pocket.  He made his way to the front door, pushed the doorbell button, and waited anxiously.
Earlier that day, the man had been reading a medical journal in a doctor’s office wiating room when he came across an interesting article about organ donation.  He was reading how so many people were on waiting-lists for kidney transplants, and how some would surely die waiting.  As he closed the journal, still waiting for his name to be called, he imagined what it would be like too be dying in a waiting room.  Right then, he made the decision to donate one of his kidneys.
An hour after asking his doctor for a lead, he was standing out in the cold on the doorstep of a complete stranger.  As he herd the door being unlocked from the inside, he was eager to look upon the face of the one who would benefit from his sacrifice.  The door pulled open.
“If you’re selling something, I’m not interested.”  The first response was automatic.  The man inside was middle-aged and appeared somewhat annoyed by his uninvited guest.  “No, I’m not selling anything sir,” the older man answered back.  “Actually, I guess it might seem odd why I’m here, but you see, I was just out walking and this air is terribly cold, so I thought perhaps you would allow me to step in for a few moments to warm up…”  The man inside hesitated for a couple of seconds, glancing back and then sighing with a hint of frustration.  “Alright, come on in.”  The invitation was cold and half-empty.
The older man stepped into the warm house, and for the next few minutes, he did everything he could to carry on small-talk with the stranger.  More than anything, he just wanted a glimpse of who this man was, a peek at the life he would spare.  But it soon became evident that this man was ready for his guest to leave.  “Sorry, but I’ve got something planned, so I’m afriad you’re going to have to be on your way now.”
The older man generously offered his thanks and quickly stepped back out into the cold.  As he walked away from the house, he paused and looked back.  Through the large front window, he watched as the man inside plopped down in front of a television and reclined back in his chair.  It was precisely at this moment, as he looked upon the undeserving man, that he smiled and said to himself, “This is the man I want to help.”
Why choose to help someone who doesn’t deserve it?  When Jesus came to this earth, he voluntarily sacrificed himself to offer us hope — and certainly not because we deserved it.  As Christ hung on the cross, He looked down upon an undeserving crowd of spectators and cried, “Father, forgive them…”  Thank God that His desire to save the hopeless was not detoured by rejection.
