Kara Walker Faller (daughter of Bro. Dennis Walker) is having her baby today.  As you pray for her, pray for her anxious family.  I’ll update later.

Frankie Gehringer is having knee replacement surgery at nine this morning at OLOL in Baton Rouge.  Keep him in your prayers.

Bernie Gill is scheduled for heart surgery this morning.  Please remember him in your prayers.

Remember my Texas cousins, especially Micah (23).  The family has been and is going through numerous health problems.

Mr. Wenous Goings is in a Hammond nursing home.  I’m sorry I passed on incorrect information.  Keep him in your prayers.

 

Today was Baptist Men’s Day.  I know it was the best one I was ever a part of!  God is an awesome God!  He showed his awesomeness to me and many other through two young, but “mighty men of God”.  The men’s choir and testimonies were very good, but God used two young men through which to show his great plans and to touch hearts!  I hope you were a part of the service, but realize many of you were in other churches.  I do hope you find time to listen to someone who was there today.  You’ll be blessed, richly blessed!

Mrs. Annie Bell Harrell got to go home again Friday, but is still having problems with dizziness and nausea.  Please keep her and her family in your prayers.

Remember Mr. Joe and “Miss” Othell Williams in your prayers.  Yesterday, she was not feeling her best.

Mr. Wenous Goings is staying at his daughter’s house in Hammond.  Pray he continues to improve and will be home soon.

Mrs. Catherine Yarborough has two grandsons who are Marines.  Josh is in Japan.  Max is in Hawaii.  Both are fine after the earthquake and tsunami.  Join their families and others that are thanking God for relatives who are okay.

Remember all the victims of the earthquake and the tsunami.  There continues to be major problems in Japan.  Pray the nuclear reactors can be controlled with no additional leaks.

Ralph Dedon
(August 29, 1934 – March 11, 2011)

A resident of Kentwood, he died at 9:15 p.m. on Friday, March 11, 2011 at Hood Memorial Hospital in Amite. He was born August 29, 1934 in Mt. Hermon and was 76 years of age. He was a U. S. Air Force Veteran of Korea, a dairy farmer for 20 years, a retired Captain from Louisiana Department of Corrections and a member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church. He is survived by his daughter, Myra Roberts and husband, Jamie, Kentwood; 2 sons, Randy Dedon and wife, Holly, Plant City, FL and Joe Dedon and wife, Erika, Covington; 8 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and many dear friends. Preceded in death by his wife, Patsy Alford Dedon; parents, “Ollie” and Lois Dedon; step-mother, Tessie Dedon; 2 brothers, James “Pete” Dedon and Ray Dedon; 2 sisters, Marie “Sissy” Fortenberry and Mary Taylor; 1 daughter, Debra Terry; 2 grandchildren, Earl Dedon and Nikki Kennedy. Private Services will be held at Mt. Pisgah Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, P.O. Michael Hendry, son of Gary and Linda Stegall Hendry, passed away.  I will post an obituary when one is available.  Please be in prayer for the family.

Dorothy S. Hodges
(February 4, 1925 – March 11, 2011)

Mrs. Dorothy S. Hodges was born February 4, 1925 and passed away at 7:30 p.m., Friday, March 11, 2011 at her residence surrounded by her loving family. She was 86, a native and a resident of Kentwood.

Mrs. Dorothy is survived by a daughter, Peggy Sue Hodges, Kentwood; 3 sons, Rodney Lane Hodges, Sr., Kentwood, Kenneth Ray Hodges, Kentwood, & John Wayne Hodges and wife, Lisa J., Kentwood; 6 grandchildren, Rodney Lane Hodges, Jr., Candace Hodges, Shelby Hodges, Jeremy Hodges & Dillon Hodges; 5 great-grandchildren, Austin Hodges, Abby Hodges, Adian Hodges, Chandler Graves & Reagan Graves; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

Donald Ray Bates

Mr. Bates was born on July 13, 1939 and passed away at 8:45 p.m. on Friday, March 11, 2011 at the St. Helena Parish Nursing Home in Greensburg, LA. He was 71 years old and a native of Kentwood, LA. How sad to come to the end of your life and others not have anything good to say about you!  Hebrews 11 could be viewed as a collection of epitaphs of many who had died.  The chapter starts with these words:

“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.  For by it the elders obtained a good testimony.” (Hebrews 11:1-2)

I like how the New Century Version translates verse 2:  “Faith is the reason we remember great people who lived in the past.”  That’s true, isn’t it?  Every single person in the Bible we regard as “great” was a man or woman of faith.  That faith made a difference in the way they lived and responded to God.  That’s why we remember them.

May your life be characterized by faith in God so that those who prepare your tombstone won’t struggle with finding something kind to say.

URGENT PRAYER
IMB
March 11, 2011

JAPAN. As we hear about the devastating 8.9 earthquake that struck Japan, our hearts go out to all who are suffering such tremendous loss. We thank the Father that all of our IMB workers in Japan are safe and accounted for. Please pray for them as they are in the midst of this ongoing tragedy, asking God to comfort them, continue to protect them, and use them according to His purposes. Pray for Japanese Baptists who are dealing with this national tragedy. Pray that God will give wisdom and guidance to all who are involved in rescue and relief efforts. Pray that the Japanese people will know of God’s great love for them.

Update:

MISSIONARY PERSONAL NEEDS. Praise God that the East Asian worker for whom we have prayed in recent days is now conscious and breathing on his own; however, he is still very weak. Even as you had prayer for him in recent days, please continue to uphold him with your prayers. Please remember his wife as well, asking God to give all that she needs during this difficult ordeal.

Jadon’s Story: Feeling Better 🙂


I’m finally starting to feel better. I had 101.8 fever last night and then today at 11:00 I had 100.8. My mom just gave me some motrin because my fever is at 100 so I’m definitely getting better. I’m smiling again and not crying anytime someone looks at me. I started doing my tricks again and talking again 🙂 Thanks for praying for me. It has been a long week. I’m just thankful my mommy was off of work while I was sick. I left you a picture of me eating chocolate cake last night. I actually started getting better after I ate this. Notice my mardi gras shirt. I didnt’ get to go to the parade yesterday but I wore my shirt anyway 🙂 As far as seizure, they have been a little better today. Please continue to pray that we will find the right medicine and right dose to control these seizures.

WHEN PURCHASING AN airline ticket, I am often asked if I desire to go one way or round trip…

Since I always desire to return home, I always purchase a round trip ticket.

For past several years I have heard several friends mention a book entitled, “90 Minutes In Heaven,” written by Don Piper.  The book chronicles this man’s ninety minutes that he claims to have been allowed to enjoy in heaven.

One reviewer of the book made the following comments:

“Piper did not see Jesus, nor did he see God, though, to be fair, he saw only the “outskirts” and did not pass through the gates. Despite this, he was exceedingly joyful and feels that he experienced the very joys of paradise. For ninety minutes he walked through heaven, greeted by those he knew in this life, all of whom were (quite conveniently), the same age they were when he had last known them” (www.challies.com/book-reviews/book-review-90-minutes-in-heaven)

There is within the heart of every faithful child of God a desire to know more about heaven.  In fact, it is not beyond the realm of possibility for a person to dream of what heaven will be like.  But the only accurate testimony of heaven comes from the Scriptures.  For example, we thrill to imagine the full impact of Jesus’ description in John 14:1 – 3.  There are also the amazing and glorious descriptions of heaven presented in Revelation 21 and 22.

One major problem with a man claiming to have been permitted to have a “sneak preview” of heaven is that some clear Scriptures must be ignored or violated.  For example, Hebrews 9:27 states, “And just as it is appointed for man to die once.”

My hope is that when I leave this world that my final place of destination will be heaven.  I will not desire a round-trip ticket.  It will be then and there that the hopes of a lifetime will begin to be realized.  Bruce Ligon
