From Robin, Mike’s wife
This morning Mike was in pretty severe pain. He said his eye burned and felt like someone was sticking a blade of straw in his eye. After a pain pill, it is much better. I’ve gotten pretty good at putting the meds in his eye. I’m the one that sends the kids to Mike when they have something in their eye! Haha. It really hasn’t bothered me like I thought it would. Thanks for the messages and calls. Feel free to call us. We have no more dr apptmts until his surgery on Tues.

The neurosurgeon just came and told us the grids are all in place. We should get to see him in about 1 hour. Much sooner than we expected. Thanks for all the prayers. Keep them coming. You are all awesome. Jadon is one lucky little boy to have so many people who love him and are praying for him.
Jadon’s Story: I’m in surgery now!
They took me back around 8:30 this morning. I fell asleep in my mommies arms before the even took me back. She laid me on the table and I stayed asleep. They put the mask on my face and I was so brave for my mommy. I slept until the last minute. I woke up let out one little cry, grabbed my moms finger, and went to sleep. The doctors have been amazing. We actually forgot my blanket and one of the doctors said wait we left the blanket. I’ll go back and get it. The nurse in the Operating room said that she will call and update us every hour. She said this isn’t a requirement but that she tries to put herself in the parents situation and she knows she would want an update so she said she will call. They also gave my mommy and daddy a number which they will update on a screen in the waiting room. The anesthesiologist also told mommy and daddy that he will be right there the entire time making sure I’m ok. This made us feel so much better. Thanks for praying. God is deginitely here and we can feel your prayers. I’ll update again after survey.
Dr. Derry Magee had a better day yesterday. His regular doctors returned from their holiday break. Dr. Derry asked for one of his visitors to pray for him. Dr. Derry used a wash cloth to wash his hair and another one to wash his face and mouth. His bleeding may be related to a family history of a bleeding problem, Von Willebrand’s Disease. Dr. Derry’s speech is improved. The family is encouraged and continues to thank you for your prayers for them.

Jadon’s Story: Surgery is tomorrow (Posted last night)
We made it to Detroit. We have to be at the hospital for 7 which is 6 at home. Not sure what time they will get started. I’ll update sometime after surgery. Please send lots of prayers our way. Dr. Derry Magee is able to respond with waving, pointing, and by giving a thumb up so he can let them know about pain and respond to what they say. Sometimes he has a hard time keeping his eyes opened and staying awake, but he understands what is told to him. There are still some concerns, but the doctors think he can have a positive outcome. The family has been blessed to have had the help of a niece who is a doctor and a daughter who is a nurse. “Miss” Dora thanks you for praying and asks you to continue to pray.

DOING THE IMPOSSIBLE
Ouma C (Grandma C) is a 72-year-old woman from the Nama people group lives in a township outside of Windhoek, Namibia. For the past nine years, Ouma C has shown the love of Jesus to the children in her neighborhood through a weekday feeding program.
Monday through Friday, the children begin lining up at her gate at noon, and over the next two hours, about 300 school-age children pass through Ouma C’s home and eat a small meal. She depends completely on what God provides through donations.
Every Monday, Missionary Dana leads a Bible study for the 70 or more children who stay after they have eaten. She has been teaching them Bible stories of how God performed miracles—how He did the ‘impossible’—for the Israelites. Ouma C and the children’s needs are great, but they are learning every day that God is still busy doing the ‘impossible’ today.
Please pray for Ouma C that she will stay healthy and be able to provide food for the children. Pray for the children to hear the Bible and understand the Truth of God who wants to do the ‘impossible’ in each of their lives.

My grandfather has a disease called ALS and he is having trouble walking. My grandmother can’t really leave their house a lot. They can’t go on vacations a lot because it tires him out a lot. Please pray that he will have the strength to go though each day and that my grandmother will also be able to be strong. Please pray that all of our family will be able to be strong and that my Opa (Grandfather–he is German and so we call him Opa) will not have to suffer. Today, I’m reminding you to pray for Jadon Pailet, the two year old with uncontrollable seizures. Jadon and his family are in Detroit today where doctors have a plan to control his seizures. The prayer sendoff for the Pailet family yesterday was great – emotional, reassuring, and uplifting. Join the hundreds praying daily for Jadon and his family.
Mr. Kenneth Felker told David last night that his daughter, B.J., fell at home and broke three bones in one leg. She is in North Oaks where she will be having surgery today. Please continue to pray for B.J. and her family.
Rev. Sal Lilly is Ann Trappey’s dad. He was hospitalized with chest pains. According to Sheila Broyles, doctors determined he needs three by-passes. Pray for Rev. Lilly, a retired methodist pastor, and his family.
Firma Kay Schneweiss reports her mother, Mrs. Pauline Strickland, was moved to rehab. Because she wasn’t able to work at that level yet, she was moved to skilled nursing Monday. Pray for Donna Fay Miller and Firma Kay as they take turns staying with “Miss” Pauline and for Billy Carl who will be beginning chemo and radiation as you pray for “Miss” Pauline and the doctors.
Thought for the Day: Too many rocks
This list is circulating among Forest Service employees. These are actual comments left on Forest Service registration sheets and comment cards by backpackers completing wilderness camping trips:
“A small deer came into my camp and stole my bag of pickles. Is there a way I can get reimbursed? Please call.”
“Instead of a permit system or regulations, the Forest Service needs to reduce worldwide population growth to limit the number of visitors to wilderness.”
“Trails need to be wider so people can walk while holding hands.”
“Trails need to be reconstructed. Please avoid building trails that go uphill.”
“Too many bugs and leeches and spiders and spider webs. Please spray the wilderness to rid the area of these pests.”
“Chairlifts need to be in some places so that we can get to wonderful views without having to hike to them.”
“Reflectors need to be placed on trees every 50 feet so people can hike at night with flashlights.”
“Need more signs to keep area pristine.”

Too many rocks in the mountains? I suppose the sky is too blue, there are too many leaves on the trees and too much water in the ocean as well! It’s hard to imagine anyone complaining about God’s creation. I stand in awe every day of His handiwork, from the mountains to the deserts to the beaches and everything in between!

A resident of Kentwood, she died at 5:01 p.m. on Saturday, December 31, 2011 at North Oaks Medical Center in Hammond. She was born October 10, 1923 in Poteau, OK and was 88 years of age. Survived by daughter, Julia Ann Shaw Smith, Kentwood; 2 sons, Richard W. Shaw, Coushatta and Ronald E. Shaw, Shreveport; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren;sister, Myrtis Newsom, Hammond; numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by husband, Richard E. “Pete” Shaw; parents, Linden Pate and Julia Hulsey Pate Anders; sister, LaVon Lea; son-in-law, LaRue Smith; grandson, Greg LaRue Smith. Leroy Wilson grew up in this area. Mike Moore is his son-in-law and the husband of Robin. Mike was found to have a melanoma behind one eye about a month ago. This is an update Robin just sent.
Dr just left our room. Mike is in recovery right now and I can’t wait to see him. They said he did great! He will need pain meds and something for nausea. It’s pretty common for some nausea due to messing with his eyes, but they don’t want him getting sick following this surgery. We will be heading back to Hope Lodge when they release him. Hugs to all of you for praying our family through this!!!
I’m thanking God surgery went well and earlier tests did not show any spread of the melanoma. A family heritage of deep faith is so important in times like this. Mike and Robin are surrounded by a church family to support them on this journey.
Boyd is now wearing a splint and a boot cast for a fracture he got while jogging out by our place. Pray the boot will slow him down long enough to get the foot get well.
Nice weather + country roads + running shoes = great exercise.
Old shoes + old man + uneven roads = stress fracture + splint + boot cast for six weeks.
Never boring at our house.
Dr. Derry Magee is slowly improving in CICU. The medical staff remains optimistic and are continuing to do tests and make changes in his treatment as they see the need. He is in St. Joseph Medical Center in Bryan, Texas. Please continue to pray for his family.

I want to thank everyone for thier prayers, cards, visits, and other acts of love shown during my recent illness. I’m back in the office today!!! The Lord taught me so much about Him, myself, the importance of family, friends, and a great church family. I hope to share some of it with you as the Llord allows.
