Mattie Bridges Lambert

Mattie Bridges Lambert, a resident of Kentwood, died on May 23, 2014, at the age of 91. She was born on March 22, 1923 in St. Helena Parish as the 8th of 14 children. She was a member of Spring Creek Baptist Church and a member of the Sunshiners’ Choir. Mattie was a homemaker who loved to quilt. As a quilter, she was a member of the Northshore Quilt Trail with her “Cross and Crown” quit block displayed on Highway 38 and worked as a “Rosie the Riveter” during World War II. She is survived by two sons, Mikel E. Lambert and Marlin S. Lambert, both of Kentwood; two daughters, Colleen L. Strickland, Osyka, MS and Orene L. Lea, Kentwood; 14 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren and two sisters, Wilma B. Chand and Bonnie B. McMillan. Preceded in death by her husband, Arvis James Lambert; her parents, William Wilson Bridges and Cassie Bridges; siblings, J. S. Bridges, Will T. Bridges, C.J. Bridges, Mamie Allen, Elaine Pittman, Minnie Pittman, Rucee Crowell, Jack Bridges, Murphy Bridges, Inez Tate and Charles Bridges. Visitation at McKneely Funeral Home, Kentwood, from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Sunday and continuing at Spring Creek Baptist Church from 9 a.m. until religious Services at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 26, 2014. Services conducted by Dr. Danny Smith. Interment Spring Creek Cemetery, Spring Creek. Pallbearers will be Mikel Lambert, Mark Lambert, Matthew Lambert, Brodie McElveen, Phillip Strickland and Ryan Wicker.
