Albert S. Bishop
(April 21, 1925 – December 1, 2013)

A resident of Amite, died at 11:22 p.m. on Sunday, December 1, 2013 at Hood Memorial Hospital in Amite. He was born April 21, 1925 in Hazlehurst, MS and was 88 years of age. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II where he served as a Paratrooper. He was a store manager with W. Walker Store which brought him to Amite and later was a salesman for Johnson-Cefalu Buick. He was an active member of First United Methodist Church in Amite where he served as a trustee and an usher. Survived by wife of 66 years, Mattie P. Bishop, Amite; daughter, Sally Bishop Sterling and husband, Ken, Fort Payne, AL; 2 grandsons, William Stanley Hand and wife, Angie and John David Hand; 3 great granddaughters, Mary Grace Hand, Anna Leigh Hand and Elizabeth Claire Hand; and several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents, Albert G. and Susie Noland Bishop; 3 brothers, William, Denon and Noland Bishop; 3 sisters, Beatrice Singletary, Joyce Ashley and Betty Lloyd; and son in law, Michael H. Hand. Visitation at First United Methodist Church. Amite, from 9 a.m. until religious services at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, December 4, 2013. Services conducted by Rev. David Melville. I spent many a day and/or night in this home when I attended school in Amite.  Sally was a good friend of mine.  Mr. Al was a great man!
