Aunt Eva Smith (90) is doing well in northwestern Alabama.  She may be ready to go back to the assisted nursing facility today.  Thank-you for praying for her.

VBS is upon us.  For those of us who have a room, decorating time is here.  Tomorrow, I will be bringing the Northern Lights to Kentwood.  I hope the “flights” are right on time next week.  Registration will continue tomorrow and Monday as VBS begins.  Come learn about children as they learn about God.  I’m expecting great things next week.

Mary Alice Huey
(April 3, 1923 – May 31, 2012)

Mary Alice Huey died on Thursday, May 31, 2012 at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital after a brief illness. She was 89. She was born in Baton Rouge on April 3, 1923, to Ivy James McCoy and Addie Watson McCoy. She graduated from St. Joseph’s Academy in Baton Rouge and had a 30-year career in city-parish government, working for a variety of officials and executives from Mayor Jesse L. Webb to Willie Davenport and Collis Temple. She was preceded in death by her parents and by an older brother, Warren Watson McCoy, and his wife Dora. She was married to Preston William Huey, a civil engineer, and is survived by four children: Judith Quin Jolly, Preston William Huey, Jr., Robert Daryl Huey, all of Baton Rouge, and Kathy Huey White of Natchez, MS. She is also survived by two brothers: Col. Ivy James McCoy, USAF, of Gordon, TX, and John Kent McCoy, of St. George Island, FL. An avid swimmer and a dedicated gardener, she also enjoyed travel, bible study and visiting with her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Her volunteer work included teaching English to non-native speakers and service on community organization boards such as the YWCA and the Catholic Youth Organization. A private burial service will be in Grangeville, Louisiana, on Saturday, June 2. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, June 3, at Christ Covenant Church, 1700 Lee Drive in Baton Rouge. The service will be at 3p.m. with visitation beginning at 2p.m. Senior Pastor Bradley Aucoin will conduct the service. The family requests donations in lieu of flowers to Christ Covenant Church or to the Catholic Youth Organization of Baton Rouge. David W. Husser
(September 22, 1959 – May 31, 2012)

David W. Husser was born September 22, 1959 and passed away at 2:35 p.m., Thursday, May 31, 2012 at LSU-HS University Hospital, New Orleans, LA. He was 52, a native of Amite and resident of Husser, LA.

David is survived by his wife, Linda Butler Husser; daughter, Kathleen “Katie” Husser; 3 step-daughters, Leslie Tullos and husband JR, Lora Cobb and husband Tobin, Jennifer Robertson and husband Chad; sister, Myra Jenkins Sharpe; 3 brothers, Ronnie Husser, Kevin Husser and wife Susan, Clifton Husser and wife Evie; mother-in-law, Nada Butler; 6 grandchildren, Tyler Tullos, Sarah Cobb, Evan Cobb, Peyton Robertson, Kyle Robertson, Emily Robertson; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

Preceded in death by his parents, Leon and Kathleen Calmes Husser, Jr.

Visitation at New Sharon Baptist Church Multipurpose Building, Husser, LA on Monday, June 4, 2012 from 10:00 a.m. until Celebration of Life Services at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Ron Ball officiating. Interment in New Sharon Cemetery, Husser, LA.
