A resident of Kentwood, she died at 11:07 p.m. on Friday, June 24, 2011 at Hood Memorial Hospital in Amite. She was born June 28, 1951 in Magnolia, MS and was 59 years of age. She was a teacher in Tangipahoa Parish and Washington Parish for over 34 years and a member of Tangipahoa Baptist Church. Visitation at McKneely Funeral Home, Kentwood, from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Sunday and at Tangipahoa Baptist Church from 8:30 a.m. until Religious Services at 10 a.m. Monday. Services conducted by Rev. Greg Stewart. Interment New Zion Cemetery, Kentwood, LA. Survived by husband, James “J.B.” Travis, Kentwood, 4 children, Charles Patrick Alford and his wife, Kathy, Baton Rouge, Michael C. Alford, Sunny Hill, Tressie Alford Phelps and her husband, Joseph, Hattiesburg, MS, and Sally Alford Sherman and her husband, Carter, Sunny Hill, 3 grandchildren, Chelsey Harrison Cutrer and her husband, Bret, Kentwood, Morgan Phelps, Hattiesburg, MS, and Andilyn Sherman, Sunny Hill, 1 great-granddaughter, Kassidy Cutrer, Kentwood, mother, Lorese “Sally” McDaniel Hyde Higgins, Line Creek, 2 sisters, Barbara Hyde Duncan, Denham springs, and Donnis Hyde Byrne, Denham Springs, numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by, father, Charles Ellis Hyde, step-father, Woodrow Higgins. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or Tangipahoa Baptist Church.
