Correction

Frances Tidwell Bell, 99, died May 28, 2010, at Kentwood Manor Nursing Home. Born in St. Helena Parish, she claimed Kentwood as her home since living there from age two. Mrs. Bell was born July 24, 1910, to James David and Lillie Root Tidwell. She had three sisters and three brothers, all of whom are deceased. She was married to Neil C. “Pete” Bell for 64 years before his death in August 2003. She is survived by two nephews, Tommy Chapman and Buck Chapman, and wife Peggy; two nieces, Eyvonne Ricks, and husband Luther, and Gerry Dearman, and husband Ernest Carroll; and by numerous great-nieces, great-nephews, and friends, who are considered family. Special friends are Annie Miller, Betty Holden, Bernice Dickerson, and Shirlene Dyson. Mrs. Bell graduated from Kentwood High School and earned her teacher’s certificate from Southeastern in Hammond. She taught for 35 years at Kentwood Elementary, maintaining close ties to many students throughout her retirement years. She is fondly remembered for directing Stunt Night at Kentwood High School for several years. Music was an integral part of Mrs. Bell’s life, as was her hospitality. Because she loved people, she was involved in many activities: Kentwood Methodist Church where she was the oldest member; Kentwood Music Club; United Daughters of the Confederacy; and Order of the Eastern Star, in which she was the oldest member in the State of Louisiana, having been a member for 81 years. Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Sunday at McKneely Funeral Home in Kentwood, and from 8 a.m. until services there at 11 a.m. Monday. Services conducted by Rev. Percy Frazier. Interment will follow in Woodland Cemetery, Kentwood.
