“Blessed [be] God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,

the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort;

Who comforteth us in all our tribulation,

that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble,

by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.”

Powerful Magnitude 7.5 Earthquake Rocks Western Indonesia; Tsunami Warning Issued (Headline from Fox News this morning) Please pray for the people in this area who may have been affected by the earthquake or the tsunami.

Tuesday Evening

Peggy Alford said her brother, Leroy Stringfield, and other family members in Alabama are safe. The tornado hit about half mile from his home. They were inconvenienced with no electricity, phone, etc., but that was minor compared to what happened to many homes in Prattville, Alabama. Thank God for all the lives that were spared in that tornado.

A young man who lives in the East Fort area showed me pictures of damage in his neighborhood. I didn’t know about any damage in that area, just thought it was south of Greensburg and between Arcola and Fluker. Once again, people were very thankful to be spared.

“Elijah was a man with a nature like ours,

and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain;

and it did not rain on the land for three years and six months.

And he prayed again,

and the heaven gave rain,

and the earth produced its fruit.”

James 5:17-18

The monthly share group meeting will be Thursday at the Alford cabin. Please feel free to join us at 6:30. If you need directions or more information, please contact me.

FULBE/FUTA JALON OF GUINEA (FUL-bay/FOO-tuh jah-lone). “Mom, I want to go out visiting women soon,” proclaimed the 15-year-old daughter of a Fulbe/Futa Jalon Team member. Her mother writes: “When I asked her MK (missionary kid) friend how her English classes were going (she is teaching a teenage Fulbe girl some conversational English), she said that it was going really well. The girls’ interest level is still high, which is good since they often will start something and then stop when they get a little discouraged. As my daughter and I go out visiting women in and around town, please pray that we will see where God is working and join Him there. Ask for my daughter to have confidence in her ability to speak and understand the Pular language. Pray that the Great Physician will heal the sick through our prayers, comfort the discouraged, and save the lost. As this other teenage MK teaches English to her Fulbe friend, please pray that their hearts will be united and that she will recognize opportunities to share her faith as well as her English.”

PUNJABIS OF INDIA (pun-JAH-bees). J is a young Baptist pastor. He has a church, and he also works in several other villages. He wants to see God’s kingdom grow, but sometimes feels discouraged. “It is really hard work,” he says. One problem he faces is that many people come for prayer and healing but aren’t really interested in knowing Jesus. A Baptist representative is mentoring J and encouraging him to press on. J is looking for leaders in the other villages whom he can train to start and lead new churches. Pray for J and other pastors like him who need encouragement to keep pressing on, and ask that they will see good and lasting fruit. Pray for their church members to grow deep in their faith. Pray that the pastors will be able to train lay leaders to share in the ministry and start more churches.;

MISSIONARY PERSONAL NEEDS. Praise the Lord for a journeyman who will soon be joining a team serving among a Last Frontier people group. Intercede for him as he studies the local language in a major city for a few months. Pray that the Lord will enable him to get a good grasp of the language–better than what could be humanly possible–during this short time of language study.

MUSLIMS: PRAYING BEYOND THE WALL. Pray for East African Muslims of Western Europe. Even after a century of immigration to Western Europe, many of the East African communities are closed to outside influence and are difficult to penetrate. They have not integrated well into their host communities and are suspicious of Western involvement. This makes it difficult to reach them with the gospel. Pray for those working with East Africans in Western Europe to be able to engage this community creatively. Pray that they will not become discouraged by the slow progress.

Monday Update

Jan Hammons said Sidney Ricks just talked with her. The child who was injured was 12 year old Taylor who is a fifth grade student at Spring Creek. Please be in prayer for the Ricks family. They have had a number of tragedies that most families never have to deal with.

….She lost part of her colon and muscles that control bladder. .. She will be in the hospital for at least two weeks. …

Thank God the tornado that struck between Arcola and Fluker did not take any lives and the damage was not any greater. Pray for those who had damage as they progress through the clean-up process. Pray no injuries will occur during this clean-up time.

Randy Blades had his lower leg removed as planned. While still hospitalized, he fell and broke an arm. Pray this set-back will not slow his recovery too much.

Rusty Williams is progressing. With continued antibiotics and more rest, he should be able to be up in a couple of weeks. Please pray for Rusty as he continues to heal.

Dr. Landrum Salley called last night. He was checking to be sure Peggy Alford’s brother, Leroy Stringfield, was okay. Dr. Salley had heard there was a tornado in the Alabama town where Leroy lives. Since Peggy was still at choir practice, Dr. Salley and I had a nice visit. I sent emails to both Leroy and Peggy, but have not heard back from them yet. Dr. Salley and his wife are both doing well, but having some of the usual difficulties of aging. During that time Dr. Salley and I talked, he told me the youth from his church in Nashville are going to Greece this summer to minister to the Roma (Gypsies). He and I are interested in a possible connection to Boyd and Jennie’s ministry. What a small world. Thank God for telephones and computers so we can keep in touch.

Pray for Bethel Baptist Church as they are in the early stages of adding a fellowship hall to their church. Pray for the process to run smoothly.

Sunday Evening

Please pray for Michelle Ricks (about 13) who was accidentally shot when a shotgun fell this afternoon. She is in surgery now. Michelle is the daughter of Percy Ricks. Prayers for the family and the medical staff would also be greatly appreciated.

Please continue to pray for Bro. Butch Reviere. He had a difficult day today and will be hospitalized at least another day or two.
